If anyone is interested in upgrading their golf cart seats, I walked into TV Golf Car store in Brownwood yesterday to test out some new seats. I really liked the El Tigre Texas High Back Sportster bucket seats and got a quote from TV for $2031 including tax. Today I called El Tigre and they were running a special and I got the seats for $1645 that included shipping, tax, and installation, a savings of $386.

TV golf needs to make a fair profit on items they sell to stay in business.

As far as I'm concerned worth every penny. The stock seats about did my back in. The high backs are sooooo comfortable.

I bought my Yamaha from TV at LSL new in 2011 and at the time, Ultimate Seats out of Indiana was the main upgraded seats that most dealers were stocking. These were the top of the line and were $1495 almost ten years ago. I've enjoyed them enough that it was worth the difference. Ultimate for some reason went out of business and El Tigre sort of took their place. In fact I believe El Tigre are made in the same factory in Indiana, so there was some connection.

Most businesses target between 20 - 40% markup. This covers their overhead costs (taxes, insurance, utilities, labor, upkeep, inventory carrying costs, advertising, etc)
Fair means what the market will bear. Supply / demand.
If too high, shoppers will go elsewhere.
BTW. Did TV carts charge for testing the seats in their showroom?

Dam, I bought the same seats 4 1/2 years ago and had them shipped to our home for $950. Took me about a half hour to install them in the Yamaha. Who says inflation is running about 1.5% per year?

One assumption that was not mentioned. The retailer buys at a wholesale price.
Often the manufacturing company holds prices higher or protect their dealer network.

If one has the money to spend on luxuries because they worked hard all their lives, so be it. It also helps the economy. As far as contributing to the homeless in the Ocala forest, that is a personal choice. Is it you opinion that he should buy so old beat up golf cart because some people made bad choices in life. Do you have any idea how many people chose not to go back to work recently because they are making more money staying home.

I agree but there is a difference between a fair profit and an outrageous profit. TV Golf Carts is more expensive than other golf cart store in central FL, as they know they have a captive audience.

There are several types of El Tiger seats, so quiting a price without details is only a partial answer.
Some have a common bench with two individual backs, and others have two individual seats.
We purchased the latter, so tall me can slide seat all the way back for comfort, and short wife can slide seat all the way forward when she is driving the cart.
Much more convenient than trying to add extension blocks to accelerator and brake pedals.
Pricing? Like any consumer or professional goods and services. Shop around for what one seems a satisfactory price.
Golf cart seats aren't the only products that have a variety of prices. That's why many products have an SRP (suggested retail price). The manufacturer doesn't control what a product sells for, but they seldom want to undercut their dealers.

Same reason that if you go 50 miles or more away from the Villages you can purchase a cart for many hundreds less. I like most of you were too lazy oops busy to give up the convenience and just paid the over priced amount. Also true or not, I don't know but I have been told that Village Golf Cart will not service your cart if purchased from their competitors. I repeat I have no first hand experience with this only hear say.

A few years ago, I tried them to upgrade my headlights to LED's. They threw out an absolutely outrageous quote. I ended up getting it done for about one-third as much. I have never been back.

I went to several dealers outside the bubble (including up to Ocala) and really did not see a price savings. & TV will service non-Village purchased units.

I too bought my seat direct from El Tigre for my EZ Go cart a few years back. They were delivered and installed right in my drive by an El Tigre independent installer. It was an easy, no headache process + I love the seat!

Hey M2inOR which model is adjustable?
The Texas High Back Sportster bucket seats slide front to rear and the back rest reclines. I am 6’2” and found it very comfortable as it is a deep seat.

El Tigre when they began selling online about five years ago, you could buy direct from their website and get this seat for $1250. The same seat today on their website is $1499, not bad considering I paid the same price for an Ultimate Seat ten years ago that was almost identical. They have more expensive seats, but I found my seat (shown on page 1) has been great, the best part is getting the center armrest. It's no different then driving a car without a center armrest, it gets tiresome. If you get this seat, it's going to be nice.

I thought TV Golf Cart shops have been that way for years. However, I bought my cart from TV in 2011 and I've never taken to them for service. I rather have someone come to my house than have to drop it off and drive their loaner and come later to pick it up. It's not worth all that effort, I bought a gas Yamaha because if taken care of, it will last you forever.

We purchased our El Tigre seats in Ocala several years ago and I installed them myself - no issues. At the time, I found them even less expensive on their website about $200 less. As long as you can deal with installation that is the best bet. The seats still look like new. I use Mcguiars leather cleaner and conditioner on them since day one.

A endless debate-what is fair? Competition controls what you can charge.
If, you were the only one with xxxx and everyone wanted xxxx you would raise your price.
Value is also debatable.
Amusing to me. Remember the first oil embargo and the price shock. I recall at a gas station a sign I too would be much cheaper if I didn't have any gas.

When we bought our cart they told us that people that bought their carts from The Villages had priority and could make appointments for service and receive a loaner cart. People who didn't purchase their carts from them could get service on a first come first served basis based on the day's availability.
Basically if you showed up prior to opening and waited, you might get your cart in for service. Then again, you might not.

Key word is FairIt's not a requirement that someone buys upgraded seats. If someone wants to upgrade and is willing to pay the price that The Villages is offering, how can it not be fair?

No charge...just go inside and find a comfortable seat that fits you. Now I know that is not the answer you are trying to provoke but, in fairness, I didn't get charged for the Jeep Wrangler I test drove at Bill Bryans, the Nike tennis shoes I tried on at the mall in Orlando, or the lounge chair at Babettes. Enjoy the savings or spend the extra money, dont matter to me as I am just trying to pass on a little information to those who enjoy a good deal.

Nope.
With a single bench seat, each back might be adjustable for reclining.
With individual bucket seats for driver and passenger, each has separate recline for your back, and each seat can slide forward or back separately.
Sorry, I don't know the model name.
That's one advantage we all have access to - try before we buy, then shop for convenience and price. I'm quite happy with The Villages Golf Cart shop in Brownwood. We get free carts to use when we are visiting north of 44 until Water Lily bridge is completed. And we had free use of a cart while we waited for the custom model we ordered originally.
We are about to order a 2nd cart, so will be shopping again, this one with similar seats, but sliding doors for my wife. She might find a few other options, too. We also plan to get it with the folding rear seats, and have been researching the different ways to get that rear seat.

As a retailer for over 40 years, I can tell you the store has to make a profit or they can’t afford to pay their rent. It’s unfair to use them as a showroom, dressing room, etc, then order online from a site that has none of those options. We are slowly losing the stores we love to visit.
Just my humble opinion.
