talk about double standard. the network CBS yesterday condemned Reed for cheating, or insinuating that he cheated on Saturday. he was exonerated by the head rules official and the rules guy on the course at the time. but CBS whined about him most of the broadcast.
Justin Thomas uttered a gay slur, and not a peep from anyone. he must be a network favorite.
and Rory did the same thing on Sunday and not a peep from broadcasters nantz and Faldo.
does this sound familiar?
I hope Patrick sues them for libel for lying about the incident

if he was going to ask for a ruling why didn't he do it before he twirled his finger in the deep grass for a while and then lifted the ball and moved it 3 ft. ... then he asked for an official??... why?? he then went back and AGAIN stuck his finger down where the supposed depression was .. for what reason??? also I find it hard to believe that a ball that lands and then bounces about 1ft in the air and lands again could become inbedded

He didn't twirl his finger in the grass for a while...the PGA tour official...he didn't move it 3'(more like somewhere between nil and 4')and only after receiving permission from said official...also the official went back before the legal drop to see if he could find proof that the surface of the ground had been broken and it the official who said it was. If the OFFICIAL hadn't felt the ground plan had been broken the ball would have been placed back where it stopped after Reeds shot(as Reed had clearly marked the spot with a tee). If a player can not determine if the ball broke the surface of the ground by just looking(he could not as the grass was almost 4" long) then he is allow to mark the ball position and remove the ball(this can also be done if you can't tell if it's their ball or not)

Many people who comment on such things have never picked the rules of golf much less opened it and would probably benefit from doing so if they're going to have opinions that mean less than nothing compared to the reality of the situation.

Good thing your "belief" carries absolutely no weight whatsoever, otherwise your statement could be construed as libel.

EVERYBODY---fellow competitors, 3 caddies, volunteer witness---failed to see the ball bounce. The rules CLEARLY state that a player, if unsure of whether the ball broke the plane of the ground surface, may mark, lift and remove the ball without cleaning it, then check to see if it was embedded. Then a fellow competitor or rules official should be called over to see if they agree. This is EXACTLY what Reed (and Rory) did.

As far as 2019 goes, that was hard to explain. It wasn't a PGA tour event, and Reed said he didn't notice, which is also hard to believe. But it is even harder to believe a 9 time PGA winner and Master's champion would INTENTIONALLY try to "cheat" with hundreds of fans and several TV cameras focused on him

He should have put his hands in his pockets and not touched the ball until the rules official came over if there was any question. The rules DO NOT require him to do so. They DID NOT require Rory to do so either. What about the double standard being employed here is hard to understand?????

Your opinion matters to you...you think he's a cheat...wonderful...was Woods a cheat when over 10 years ago he had 5+ grown men move a bolder in a desert area because he claimed it was a loose impediment???? There have been many so called cheats in golf and I guess just disliking someone is reason enough to believe everything negative you hear about them.

The intent of the "loose impediment" rule was at it's core meant that the golfer him/herself...not a crowd of loving fans would remove the loose impediment.

It's possible for a ball to hit the ground, create a pitch mark, bounce a foot into the air and end up in that same pitch mark.

The thing is that from where Reed was he couldn't see the ball bounce and a spectator told him that it didn't.

A player does not have to call an official over before taking relief but it is always a wise thing to do. Reed has had his share of controversy in the past and would be well advise to consult a rules official on future rules situations.

They've changed the policy on that this year. Unless a video shows that a player intentionally cheated he will not be penalized. I think that the Lexi Thompson incident in the US Women's Open was the reason.

I agree. I think he did something to the ball. I find it hard to believe that a ball bounces in the tall grass and then gets embedded in the ground (in the tall grass).

Then he simply would have discreetly pressed down on it when he first went to examine it and just leave it there. a finger does not make the same size or shape hole as a ball. C'mon people, if you believe he is a cheat, at least give him credit for knowing how.:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:
