Listening to the Governor telling us that there should be 4,000 doses a week. Take the 4,000 and divide by two, since everyone needs two shots and you end up with 2,000. Let us just say there are 80,000 people that reside in the Villages. 80,000 divided by 2000 equals 40 weeks. Why does he not mention this? I believe that the mass sign ups to eliminate waiting in lines and anxiety levels go through the roof are what is needed, such as the tents on 466.
It would also eliminate multiple slots by people continually signing up. It seems it is a miracle and everything is better according to the Governor. It may be going down in some numbers from the unbelievable high from the holidays, but the numbers are still devastating and if it takes 40 weeks to inoculate just the Villages, a number one priority, we are in for another year of hurt. I think that pictures of people on respirators should be put on billboards to wake up all the mask less people. I shall pray for more vaccines to become available and people to stop taking chances of infecting themselves and others.

Plus the fact that it isn't ONLY Villagers allowed to get shots at that site. Anyone can (and will) come here from any other county when availability is advertised just like Villagers are traveling all over the state as well. I'm not complaining just stating a fact (since I get my 2nd shot Wednesday in Wildwood :D ). Couple more weeks and I can get to see the grandkids up north! YAY!

...Let us just say there are 80,000 people that reside in the Villages. 80,000 divided by 2000 equals 40 weeks...
80,000 people was the 2010 census population. The 2020 census was 127,000.
Population grew 47,000 in ten years. They had been selling on the average 2,000 homes a year, with an average of 2 residents, that 4,000 a year, Times ten years equals about 40,000 new residents.

The governor did not say that future shipments would be limited to 4,000/week and mentioned that if more vaccines become available, more will be sent here. Prediction of future events via extrapolation from a single data point is usually highly inaccurate.

Many people have signed up somewhere else and gotten a shot already. According to the 2019 census there were 76,000 over 65. The 4000 a week will be given out, not sure the 2000 shots will actually be saved for 2nd shots. I suspect that will change as J&J comes on board and may be a big player in vaccine administration. I have to chuckle regarding all this as I think many villagers are so surprised that they are not as high ranking as they think they are in the scheme of things! This vaccine distribution rolled out according to the amount of people over 65 in a county, the amount of deaths, and Sumter didn't really come close (thank goodness) to many of these larger counties. Put out the fire where it's the worse not where there are sparks!

Note: He said "4000 initial doses" so we do not know about the 2nd dose, perhaps it is 4000 at a time. Next, this is "supplemental". We have the county vaccination sites - my neighbor was just vaccinated there (they won't let me because I'm 64 with pre-existing conditions). There are Publix sites, etc. There will be a program for the homebound.
This is not the only way for residents of The Villages to get vaccinated, this is an "extra" way.
So, those saying it will take 40 weeks, that is not what is being said in this news conference.

This has and continues to be a problem of supply. I am sure every governor in the country wishes he or she had enough vaccine to vaccinate everyone within a tomorrow. Unfortunately this is not the case. On the positive side the distribution we are getting are at least going into the arms of people.

Huh???
I am pleased that our Governor is using the systems at hand to distribute any vaccine he can lay hands on. If we wait for the Federal government to roll out a system we will all be waiting a long time. It will take too much time and they will buy trailers instead of renting tents or using a stadium for drive by. When we first heard about the Pandemic and the plans to manufacture a vaccine, almost a year ago, the experts were saying that it might take several years to develop a vaccine. Not only did the world's scientists meet that challenge but they developed three that are highly effective. And they are rolling them out as quickly as humans working in any group can do things.
I feel confident that on February 10th, we two will get our second shots. We then will keep our fingers crossed that more and more vaccine will continue to arrive in our three counties so that people younger than 65 will be able to be immunized. I think it will happen sooner than later.

This is still an uncertainty. Since viral loads in the vaccinated are far less, early signs are that people who have been vaccinated are less likely to transmit coronavirus. Pfizer will publish results in Feb.
However, since it's still not certain whether being vaccinated stops someone from passing it to others, still wise to maintain precautions until science indicates otherwise.

I have been critical due to lack of info and no idea when more vaccine would be coming.
Now we can reasonably expect to be getting first vaccine before end of Feb so all is well, or at least as can be expected in these trying times.

Many are under the misconception that the vaccine is a home-free card when it's not! Sure, getting the vaccine MAY help prevent catching the virus, but more likely it means that if you do catch the virus, your symptoms will be less severe with the vaccine on board. Face it, coronavirus is here to stay. It's not curable. We may well need a yearly booster shot, just like a yearly flu shot to manage it, and like the flu, it will mutate into different strains. The reason it's been so bad this past year is the human body hasn't seen the likes of this virus before and it takes time for the body to recognize it, just like different strains of the flu. Not minimizing the danger of this virus, by any means. It's just too new and we don't know enough about it to deal with it. As a country, we were ill-prepared for something like this. It normally takes years of testing and trials to safely get a vaccine that will do what is intended with minimal side effects. The government has instilled fear in all of us over this virus and now those most vulnerable are in a panic and desperate to get a vaccine that MAY (or may not) help solve the problem.

Governors, world leaders, kings/queens, bosses earn the respect they get or not based on what they say and do (or don't).
All too often they say what "they think" a given audience wants to hear.....then off to the next one.
One of the best measures of performance is promises kept. Those earning the highest performance rating have a plan that leads to a promise being kept. When something causes the result to slip or slide off plan, the plan allows for corrective action to communicate what is happening and how actions taken will result in recovery to the plan (promise made).
A perfect example of a lack of planning was the opening of the GMR dose dispensing area....making appointments.....running out of vaccine.....shutting down and literally folding up their tents.....NO COMMUNICATIONS FOR WEEKS!!!!
No excuse given all the real knowns that go into generating the action in the first place.
"Doing the best one can" is a noble assignment that allows not keeping the original promise.
Very simple formula......only say what you are going to do and do what you said you were going to do as measured by promises kept.
The lubricant that keeps the plan on track in the eyes of those affected?
COMMUNICATE. COMMUNICATE. COMMUNICATE.
Now we wait and see how well the most recent promises will be kept.

I realize supply is the issue. but having the governor popping in all over the state touting his success only to have more confusion doesn't help. it's crazy....people are waking up to get on Publix site and wait for hours, people who signed up for GMR were left in limbo for days, scheduling by calling instead of using online....I thought the recent site for Floridians to sign up to thru dept. of healths made the most sense. Now, it's back to GMR again....leaving people wondering what to do. Saying "Seniors First" is a great catch phrase but leaving seniors to participate in this mad scramble for vaccine is hardly putting them first. what's needed is a centralized system where people know when to realistically expect to receive a vaccine.

Sumter county, and those counties around and west of us, are lagging behind the rest of the state in vaccinating seniors. The governor said 30% of the seniors in the state have received at least one vaccination. We are at 22%. With 4000 extra vaccines a week we will hit the 30% threshold in about a month.
The governor could reallocate the shipments from those on the panhandle that already are hitting 50% to send more to counties like Sumter and those west of us including those around the Tampa Bay. I just don’t think whomever is deciding where the vaccines are going is seeing the discrepancy.
The good news for those of us under 65, they will likely move on from giving Seniors priority when 70% of seniors they see are covered, so we won’t necessarily have to wait for most the Villagers over 65 to get the vaccine. Right now the county where Tallahassee sits has vaccinated over 50% of their seniors.

Hate to be pessimistic but I doubt I’ll get an “appointment” before summertime, unless J&J’s one dose vaccine gets approved & is sent to The Villages for distribution thereby increasing # of vaccinations possible here.
Will just wait it out and continue wearing masks, distancing and being careful til our turn comes.

Correct, DeSantis is saying the 4,000 doses are estimated for this one site on 466 by the Whole Foods store. This most likely will go up if they go to a 7 day schedule and increase the appointments. They will have a better understanding once the vaccine arrives.

I think that pictures of people on respirators should be put on billboards to wake up all the mask less people. I shall pray for more vaccines to become available and people to stop taking chances of infecting themselves and others.
Seriously, lighten up. The 4,000 per week is one site. There are and will be many other places to get the vaccine. It will not take 40 weeks to get The Villages vaccinated. Two more vaccines will likely be out this month. Yes, there have been some hiccups, but so far, I believe Florida has done a decent job getting this out. At least they have not had to throw some vaccines away as they have under the policies in New York.

Don't worry about a thing! I got a call yesterday afternoon from a call center in California, manned by our favorite employees of India. This employee is setting up appointments to have a medical representative come to our home and personally give us our COVID injection! I was of course interested to keep on going since I was curious of what info this rep wanted. My wife cut me short and told me if I didn't hang up she will give a shot and will not be in the arm!!
The scams just never seems to end.
Was that Mr Fleishcerdoodle? He is a nice guy and only wants the best for everyone.

So the person who takes the shots has no chance of dying, and a very high chance of not getting sick at all.
There is so much mis-information out there about these vaccines.:agree:

Do you not know you can still carry and transmit the virus after both shots? Stay away from your grandkids
This is very a misleading statement. While the two available mRNA vaccines are each approximately 95% effective at preventing CV, at least in the short term, it would also make the vaccinated person vastly less likely to be a carrier or transmitter of the CV. The mechanism by which the mRNA vaccine works disables the virus' ability to replicate. So if a immunized person is exposed to the virus the amount of virus in that person is likely both very ephemeral and greatly reduced limiting the immunized person's ability to transmit the CV to others. How much less still under study.
Alternatively, the potential for a fully immunized person to indirectly spread the CV by touching contaminated surfaces, to the extent this is a viable mode of transmission, would not be affected by immunization.

This has and continues to be a problem of supply. I am sure every governor in the country wishes he or she had enough vaccine to vaccinate everyone within a tomorrow. Unfortunately this is not the case. On the positive side the distribution we are getting are at least going into the arms of people.
Very true indeed :bigbow:

That's the way I understand it. After everyone is vaccinated we can have that herd immunity that everyone wants. It is disputed as to what % vaccination is needed to have that all-US immunity. Estimates (guesses) are between 60% and 85%. So, guess what sports fans - the anti-vaxxer may end up allowing herd immunity to NOT be achieved. So, do NOT burn your masks and start partying quite yet! And do NOT THANK any anti-vaxxers.

Why take the shots? Uh, so the person who takes the shots has no chance of dying and a very high chance of not getting sick at all. There is so much information out there about these vaccines.
I'm quoting myself here. I just read post #63 that included this quote by me that read, "There is so much mis-information out there about these vaccines".
I don't understand why that one word in my original quote was changed.
To set the record straight......There is so much information out there about these vaccines. That was my response to a poster who questioned why anyone would take these vaccines because we will still have to wear masks and social distance after the second shot.

I wonder if the anti-vaxxers do NOT want us to reach herd immunity safely. Do they realize that anyone not getting the vaccine jeopardizes us from reaching herd immunity?

I respect everyone's opinions and observations, and possibly that is what people want to see, look each day at large billboards of people dying on respirators is definitely not want I want to look at daily, but perhaps many do ? Most of us are like me I would guess, not ostriches at all, but realistic people whose analytical ability tells them that understanding a situation is one thing, but that obsession with the most depressing and possible outcomes of any one situation is a definitely not a sign of good mental health. I'm not sure that would be the best thing to do right now, but, only another opinion is all.

Do you not realize the concern is that the grandchildren might pass it to the grandparents? Once the grandparents are vaccinated the grandchildren can visit without worrying.

The point of getting the 2 shots is to protect yourself
And if you don't have the virus after the shots you are 95% sure of not getting it .
Go see your grandkids .

We love Florida. We are happy to live in a state that has a budget that is maintained. We love our no tax state. We are most appreciative that as individuals we can decide and accept the responsibility for decisions that we make. If you don’t like the way the state works, you can always move back home to skyrocketing taxes due to politicians running great states into bankruptcy. It’s not my problem and I personally do not feel incumbent to be held accountable for poor leadership. I love FL and feel we as citizens should do all we can to make it even better.

Well said SCWARTZ Thats the problem with those getting a vaccine, they think they are safe, but they can still carry it..... Sorry De Santis just cannot tell the truth ... do the math.......
The truth? Do we really want the truth? We are clearly seeing a panic and it is ugly.
Imagine if someone said we cannot get any more vaccines. Oh and those of you that got them to fund the rest we will be sending you a bill. Death, our mortuary table shows there will be at the least xxxxx deaths in the villages.
Do we really want the truth???????

Pathetic, just pathetic. You cannot believe anything he says. He said he would not accept help from the new administration and yet they sent him many more shots every week anyway.
Pathetic?? You know nothing about pathetic. Look at the failure that is New York, or New Jersey, Michigan, etc. Be glad you are here in Florida where we have a Governor who gets things done. What he said was he didn't need any more distribution help, he needed more vaccines. And keep in mind, if you think it's so bad here, you always have options.
