Since we moved in, we have had ticking sounds coming from our bathroom and kitchen vents while the wind is blowing. Is anyone having this problem? If so, what did you do about it?

The fan discharges air to a round outlet located on the soffit outside of your house. The wind creates a negative pressure in the duct which causes the damper in your bathroom ceiling to open and close even though the fan is not on. The sound you are hearing is the closing of the damper above the ceiling. It is a normal occurrence. The issue could possibly be fixed, most people just live with it.

Our home was built in 2007. Never heard this sound ever.

WE hear the same thing on windy days. I've learned to (kind of) enjoy it, or at least live with it. The little clicks mean our house & its vents are doing what they are supposed to do. One consolation - the wind will be quiet eventually. Although THIS wind ( Feb 1 & 2) seems to be lasting a lot longer than usual. Oh, and "winter" here is windy, so expect this to happen.

Normal sounds. When we came here all kinds of sounds bothered me due to issues from work and inconsiderate neighbors where we lived before. In 7+ years living here with peace and quiet and retired I'm getting to the point where less and less bother me.

For me if a noise is mostly unavoidable(ie: lawn mowers, vehicles with loud exhausts-diesel trucks that haul lawn mowers....NOT motorcycles, vent flaps)then it isn't an issue. I hope this helps.

Probably the flapper on the damper vent. This would be affected by winds. Not to worry!

On windy days I can hear it in the bathrooms and when standing near the microwave....

I'm not concerned about it.

I hear it mostly in the laundry room but if you look at you roof there are lots of vents up there.

New house sounds. They occur on every move.

I placed a small piece of masking tape , about the size of my fingernail on the lip of the vent. Too soften the sound. Worked great

We hear it in the master bathroom only - we just ignore it.

I hear so many noises in my villa. At first I was afraid of rodents running around in the ducts, but figured what the heck, just hope I don't step on anything!

Simple fix. Remove the ceiling fan/light cover first to expose the air baffle. By moving the baffle back and forth, you can tell if it moving properly and what part of the side it is hitting or making the metal noise. With my problem, I just placed a small felt pad there. It can most anything to soften the impact, but not restrict it. After that, never heard the noise again.

That's good that you hear the flapper opening and closing. That means it isn't stuck in either the open or closed position.

Happened to us also and was told there was nothing we could do. Stopped noticing it after a time but if there is a strong wind it can recur. Guess we just got used to it and don’t hear it anymore. Told it is not uncommon.
