Does anyone have experience using Uber? Is it safe? Are they insured? Would it be safe for women to use Uber who are by themselves? Thanks for any information.

It's like hitchhiking, but you pay. I had an Uber come but the car was dirty and the driver was burning incense or something to hide the smell, so I declined and rebooked. UBER charged me a $5 cancellation fee on the first ride and when I complained about the incense they told me it was a religious thing the driver had. I asked if someone could decline a ride on the basis of dashboard Jesus or a rosary wrapped around the rearview mirror...no answer, but I got my $5 back!

I have used Uber in several cities with no issues. I'm an older guy but I know that my young niece uses it as well.
The Uber website should have some information on safety and things to do to feel comfortable.
The most important thing to do is check to make sure you are getting into the correct car. The app should give you the make, model, and color of the car as well as the license plate number and name of the driver - only get into that car.
My experiences have been all been positive. Some drivers are more talkative than others but all have taken me where I wanted to go in a safe manner.

I actually prefer Uber or Lyft over a taxi. I have not had any negative experiences and believe all 3 are equally safe.

Used it countless times in several states and dozens of cities. No issues or concerns on any of those rides. Not sure of ride sharing at the moment, due to COVID, but other than that am quite comfortable.

My wife and I have used Uber, separately and together, in several cities and always have been satisfied. However in Houston many of the driver's spoke Spanish more than English but since I speak Spanish it was not an issue. No experience with it here in TV though.

If the city has Uber we use it. Much better than a taxi. With Uber, once you order a car they send you the license plate number of the car that is coming for you.

In the past we have used it a number of times at airport and been ok.
Only problem has been finding each other.
Right now due to covid hard to say if they clean car regularly so would hesitate to use it

With tens of millions of uber rides over the years yes there have been some incidents, mostly my concern is that many Uber drivers seem to be smoking marijuana either in the car or previous to driving to you. For that reason I don't feel safe especially in places like New York or California. that said depending on where you go especially if it's in airport there are several very well recommended services in this area

From somebody that just moved form CA Now PA and has traveled all over the US and been on probably 100 Uber rides, I have never run into any of these things people are talking about. Even in Colorado where pot is legal… Nothing but positive things. In California we would use Uber a couple times a week. Nothing but positive. It was like having a second car.

Really? I seriously doubt that Uber drivers in NY and Ca. are known for pot smoking. They are as safe or unsafe as taxis or any other hired car service. No matter how you look at it, youre getting in the car of a stranger. I personally have never had an issue with any services.

I have used a Uber Driver in NYC several times and at home on Long Island. Download the app on your phone. When you request a Uber driver and you get a response. You will be told the drivers name, you will receive a picture of the driver, you will get his license plate number along with the color and make of his care. You do not pay him directly you will set up an account so he gets paid. You can always snap shot the info and send it to a friend just so you may feel better that someone knows where you are going and who the driver may be. The Drivers Insurance is covered by UBER when he picks up a fare / customer. Enjoy the ride.

A recent study showed that if you are alone with an Uber or taxi driver, sit in the rear passenger-side seat, open the rear driver-side window several inches and the front passenger-side seat several inches. This causes a wall of air flow between you and the driver that greatly decreases the chance of air transmission of the virus. Wear your mask. Don’t touch things. Use hand sanitizer when you get out, after fastening your seat belt, etc. Still, it’s not without its risks. Avoid all public transport as much as you can.

Yes it is save....you get a picture of the driver and the car. Every step of your trip is monitored by GPS. Uber knows everything thing about your trip. Just be sure you match face and car with the one on the app

You should have no problem at all. When an Uber driver accepts the job- you know the first name of the driver, the car and the license plate. I’ve used this and felt very safe and comfortable.

Uber app has a feature to add individuals that get notified when you take an Uber ride.

A nice thing about Uber/Lyft is that you know up front what the charge will be, unlike a taxi that might take you a roundabout way to boost the fare.
The only issues I’ve had were trying to get rides after concerts in Orlando. It took forever for them to get through the traffic to pick us up. It would had been easier and faster to walk away from the venue, but a person in our party had mobility issues.

My friend and I use Uber in Rehoboth Beach, DE. When you schedule your trip you are given the make and model of the car, and the name of the driver. We feel safe using them.

No woman by herself should consider herself "safe" in today's world. Using a cab, showing a home or item for sale, taking a walk, etc. Always carry protection (no, not a condom) like pepper spray. I have a concealed carry permit and never leave my home with out my handgun (please, I do not want to start a gun control/safety discussion).

I have used them many times all over the world and find them as safe as a taxi cab. Even have used them here in the Villages successfully.

Uber......it is as safest you can get. I have used them in Canada, and all over places in U.S.
Very clean, very safe. Try it, you would have a different opinion after using it.
Good luck.

It is safe, but I have found it to be outrageously expensive in TV. I was quoted $24 to go from Spanish Springs town square to an address 2 miles away. And that was not on a holiday or special event.

And....You tip and rate the driver afterwords. If too many people complain and rate him/her poorly they stop getting rides. I have a family member that "Ubers" part time and that rating is a biggie. We used them extensively in foreign cities and they were great. Plus no messing with foreign currencies and perhaps you may get a little city info or places to see.

Good experiences with using UBER and LYFT in US and Europe. You can have a bad experience with anything in life but best not to dwell on it.

I love Uber! It's fast and convenient, and you can see who's coming to pick you up in real time. I also like that there is no dealing with the credit card in the car...it's all done online, including the tip. And, you can rate your driver afterwards.

I’ve used Uber quite a bit including Thailand before Covid actually in foreign countries it’s the best way to go . I don’t think I would use in villages, the whole thing about Uber is there are so many riding around in big cities you get picked up right away , here not so much , In the villages you might get a cab faster and maybe cheaper, but Uber couldn’t be more safe

2 ladies using Uber in the villages...no problem. Went from historic over to SsSquare a few nights. Its been a year, but I think that fee was closer to $10 ....or less. If it was $24 we would of bit the bullet and drove the cart over the monster bridge.😲

If Uber is "like hitchhiking," can't the same thing be said of a taxi? IMO, one bad experience doesn't disqualify. I've used Uber from coast to coast without a bad experience. Might get one some day, I suppose....

Yes I have used Uber many times and found it to be very safe!
Thanks to everyone for the information. Based on this I will try an Uber or Lyft the next time I need transportation.

We survived one of the Villages transportations to Orlando airport and back even though the driver had an oxygen mask on his face so your Uber should be less tramatic. But since every Uber ride is with a stranger there's always the possibility that you'll get a bad egg somewhere along the way. Finding a Villages transportation with the same company over and over is a safer better bet. Even though there are different drivers it's the same setup. Good luck.
