I need to buy 4 new tires for my Chevy Equinox.

If you have bought new tires recently, and are pleased with purchase, would you please tell me what brand and where?

Thanks.

Michlin. Bought at walmart. Because they have stores all over the country to provide any warrenty work even if I am traveling. Plus cost was competitive to local shops.

Consider how long you will keep the car. Top quality tires last longer but cost more.

I have been buying tires from Tirerack.com for at least 15 years now. You can get good tires rather than what the tire place has in stock.

The tires will ship directly to one of their certified installers, make and appointment and it's done.

I like to run Continental tires. I ran Crosscontact LX on my SUV and Extreme contact DWS on my sedans. This is up north so I needed an all season and I have dedicated snow tires as well.

I also just bought Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 summer tires for my Acura Sedan but those are summer tires, appropriate only for Florida really. They will also probably be worn out at 25000 miles but I don't expect to ever put many miles on the car since I'm not doing an 80 mile a day commute.

A few months ago, I bought 4 new Michelin tires for my Ford Escape. I compared prices at Firestone, Goodyear, Sumter Tire, and Wildwood Tire. The prices ranged from $925 to $1,160. I bought the tires at Firestone, they were able to get the tires from Orlando in a few hours, and they did a very good job. Total cost was $925.

Regardless of what brand you choose you need to look at comparison charts see if they what you expect out of tires.

Access Denied (https://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=CSTAS)

I look for in Florida tread wear, wet roads, and overall ratings comparisons. But that me.

Costco has the best prices for tires bar none. It is worth the annual membership cost if you only buy tires. Several locations in Orlando but the Wesley Chapel location on I-75 is the most convenient and easier drive considering 3 lane interstate vs 2 on the Fl turnpike.

Sams has very good prices but you must make an appt for tire rotation and balancing and sometimes can wait as much as two weeks.

I trade in my cars a lot, so the only I had to buy a new set of tires once since living here and that was in 2016 for a Hyundai Veloster Turbo. I use to go the Veloster Turbo message board for info, and everyone was recommending a certain Continental Tire for replacement.

I came on TOTV and searched tire dealers and found Wildwood Tires had a lot of good comments, so I went on their website. On the very first page you can search for any tire. I searched and the price and it was about right. I called them about noon and said I want to get a set of these tires. He said, any order before 3pm we can the next morning. He then asked, do you do want an appointment for tomorrow. I said yes, and that was all there was to do, no deposit, no nothing.

The next day I went in about 10am and they had the 4 tires and I had them installed. Wildwood Tires is on SR 44 on the left side just before reaching Wildwood Main Street, which is US 301. I waited on the tires, they have a counter and is manned by 2 or 3 guys and the phone rings constantly and people flood in the front door almost constant. Many of the people are locals and it's almost like sitting at bar listening to patrons talk to the bartender. They have their act together.

Here's a TOTV thread about Wildwood Tire.

Was in the trucking business for many years. We had typically purchased “American” brand tires. A Michelin rep stopped in our office one day and convinced me to try out a set of Michelin’s on one of our tractor trailers. They so outlasted the tires we had been buying that we strictly bought Michelin after that.

Comparing tires can be complicated.......tire tread life, wet performance, etc.
I just went thru a set of Michelin tires that was their top of the line, and had to get new tires at 40,000 miles, when they are advertised as 60,000 mile tires. They were replaced with a set of Cooper tires. So far, so good, but who knows how long they will go before being replaced. Either way, they are a good tire. I also have had good luck with Firestone Destination tires. Good ride, good grip and decent tread life. You should have good luck with any Goodyear, General, Firestone, Bridgestone tire without paying top dollar.

I recommend Sumter Tire and Auto on Rt. 301 in Wildwood. I got 4 new tires and a 4 wheel alignment at a decent price, AND, I was in and out in less than one hour.:a040:

I suggest that you go to www.tirerack.com and do your own research. In my experience, they have the best analysis on the web. You can also shop prices for all tires that fit your particular vehicle. You may or may not buy from them, but you will come away very educated about tires for your particular usage. And "NO", Michelins are not ALWAYS the best tires out there, as some on this site would have you believe. PS I was an automotive product development engineer and still am a performance vehicle enthusiast. I very rarely replaced my OEM tires with the exact same tires as there was always something better for my application. Good luck!

I have been using Firestone for years before I moved here. When I needed new tires, I purchased at Firestone on 466 & the work was fine, cost comparative.

Sumter Tire on 301. Considered Continental and Michelin for my Audi. Bought the Michelins at Sumter Tire, had them the next day. The staff was very professional, local ownership is a plus. Saved hundreds over what the Audi dealer wanted to charge me, plus Sumter Tire includes free rotation for life of the tires. Highly recommended.

Sumter Tire is good, but their price for a set of top-of-the-line Michelin SUV tires was $135 higher than Firestone, and I would have had to come back the next day.

Couldn’t give me Firestones tires, the only tires that I had in 45 years that blew apart at normal highway speed, and no, they were never ran low on tire pressure and only couple years old.
