For those that have pools, do you have a pool bath? If so, do you find that it is used often? If you don't have a pool bath, do you wish that you had one?
We are trying to decide if we should build one with our pool. We have rented pool homes in Orlando many times and never felt like we needed a bath in the pool area.
Any other do's or don'ts when building a pool?
Thanks!

If you will have view from pool side, consider a birdcage with 'panoramic' vertical post spacing. No need to have your view blocked by posts every six feet
If your space allows, consider a spillover spa in addition to the pool.
Solar pool heating expands your pool season.
We don't have a pool bath and have never felt the need for one.

Funny you should ask, I played Belle Glade Championship course last Friday. On the Tequesta nine, on the right of the 7th tee a home was having a pool built. Just to the right was a addition about 6' x 10' being constructed onto the house with a door to the outside. Everybody in my group asked, what is that. Since I use to live in Spring Hill and sold real estate many years ago, pool baths were fairly normal there.
It keeps you from running into the house when you're wet and getting the floors wet, and of course the air conditioning will be on since it summertime, and that gets chilly quick. It's really nothing more than a Jack and Jill but instead a 2nd bedroom it just goes to outside like this;

Here's another way to do it, look in the upper left. The pool bathroom in this layout serves the bedroom, the kitchen/Dinette and the pool.

Pool baths also serve as an extra bathroom for overnight guests. I'd go for it; I'm glad I have one.

We enjoy ours. We use it as a changing room, so as to not drip through the house. It also has a nice closet where we stor suits and cover ups and even some of my art equipment I use now to paint and draw in the glassed in lanai. It is good to have a third bath sometimes. It has a lovely walk in shower and we put a shower on the outside of it too, so that if we get all sweaty gardening we can cool off.

Oh! A pool bathroom! I thought you meant a bathtub beside the pool, and that was new to me. If you regularly have lots of friends over to swim or have kids and grandkids spending vacations with you and if you have the room, a bathroom with easy access to the pool is very nice for those running in and out, and it helps keep things dry. If you honestly aren’t likely to be throwing pool parties or having kids around frequently, it’s certainly much cheaper to provide extra towels. Speaking of which, it can be convenient to combine the pool bath and the laundry room. I have a lovely pool, but not enough room for a pool bath.

Due to the design of our home there was no logical location for a pool bath that would service the home as well. We had an outdoor shower installed and a privacy enclosure around it that doubles as a changing area. Our home has tile floors so wet feet if someone need to use the bathroom is a minor issue. Also this option saved $$$ on the pool build that we could use on other upgrades.

We have a designer Camelia model. Our pool and birdcage are on the same wall as the master bed and bath. We put a door into the pocket toilet room. Quick in and out, not walking into whole house. Nice, easy and now people actually use it. Some folks came over for hours and never left the pool. Yuck!

I have always wanted a pool bath but have had no luck! Our home is a designer Lantana with 2.5 baths (there's an extra 1/2 bath off the laundry room). We have had four contractors come out, but none have come up with an easy or plausible way to connect to the existing plumbing/sewer line that is located diagonally in the front yard. One contractor said it would involve trenching around entire lanai and back to the front of the house and would involve a pump station. He also said the cost for a full bathroom including shower would be $50,000, which seems quite high. That doesn't even include climate control. We have a summer kitchen, so there's already water out to the lanai, and the bathroom would be located on that same side of the lanai (behind the summer kitchen wall). Another concern is busting up the cement on the lanai and not hitting any underground plumbing to the inground pool and/or inground spa. The new pool bath location would be on the side where the pool equipment (pumps, heater, etc.) is located. The contractors we had come out look to us for solutions and don't seem like they really want the job. Very surprising.
For those of you who are building, or have already added a pool bath, can you please provide your contractor's info? Also cost of addition. Thank you.

We added a pool bath to our Laurel Oak 10 that we had built for us this winter. We expanded the lanai across the entire back of the house and put the pool bath at one end. Therefore, the extra bathroom doubles as a pool bath and a second full bath of the master.
It was extra money, but well worth it. We use it everyday.

We had a pool bath designed into the house when we built the house 23 years ago. If I was building the house today, I would install a pool bath.
Reasons.
1. Convenient to the pool.
2. Non slip floor tile
3. Eliminates traffic and dripping water over mostly wood floors to the master or guest bathrooms inside the house.
4. Convenient bath room for contractors to use.
5. Convenient bath room when working outside particularly during the hot summer months.
6. If you include a closet, you will have additional space for storing towels etc.
7. Adds to the value of the house.

no - we had a large lake house that I designed and built with a full bath with easy access for swimmers - they did not use it - they went upstairs to their own rooms and bathroom instead. We just built a Woodside with a pool - I took out the third bathroom and made a storage closet - way more important to me than another toilet to clean !! People can dry off with a towel, put flip flops on and go inside on the occasion that nature calls.

A good pool bath setup would be like the one in the floor plan I displayed in post #3. A pool bath should be nothing more than a Jack and Jill setup with an inside door. In the layout I showed, it's accessible to the pool, a guest BR and the kitchen and dinette. So even when the pool is not being used, the bathroom is still of use for others.

Shower is nice, but the real value is having a toilet for peep's hanging outside.

If you mean a spillover spa, ABSOLUTELY!! I use mine almost every night. Most relaxing and therapeutic before going to bed.

Added pool bath and so glad. It took about 1 week to realize I would want it.

Pool Bath, In my humble opinion, a complete waste of money. Just use the pool and add extra chlorine.

The other 3 guys in my group were stumped as well. As of last Friday, the forms are up for the pool. I guess they were smart, they calculated it was better to finish the home addition before starting the pool and decking.

I wish I had a pool bath when i had my pool at my previous house. We had a separate hot tub & the pool was outside of the birdcage. We put tile down just inside of our master bedroom so we could drip there but a pool bathroom would have been better. If you have the room, get it, doesn't have to be any more than a powder room: toilet, sink, tile floor.
