The bank I'm a member of provides this service free of charge.Which bank, if you don't mind me asking?
I've personally found that paying 7%-9% to be able to dump coffee cans full of change into a large public hopper, is well worth it compared to the time and labor of counting out change and then stuffing them into coin sleeves. Then again, I haven't heard of a bank that will accept a lot of loose change and then run it through their own change counters for free.

Banks nowadays won't let you bring the change in rolled. They prefer it loose.

I think the Coinstar machines will allow you to set up a special account with Amazon and give you 100 percent credit that can be used on Amazon.com. But, apparently, it won't give you credit on your regular Amazon account.

I don't have a bank in Fla yet, but maybe a local credit union would be the only place that would do it. Any of the big or commercial banks will charge, even if you have an account with them.

Citizens first accepts rolled coins, at least have twice last year, i ask for wrappers, sit in front of the TV and me and my wife wrap coins, did about $250 worth last year. When I was with T&D bank they had coin counting machines right in the bank, put the coins in get a receipt and take to the teller. Unfortunately the closest T&D bank was around 45 minutes away (have not checked recently).

It’s been a lot of years since I had a change jar, sometimes I miss it, but I use my credit card for everything but tips and get back between $1,500 and$. 2,000 a year bill gets paid automatically through my credit Union along with every other bill in full every month much better then loosing 7% to 9% of change and never worry about bill being late

If you are a member of VyStar Credit Union:
Walk into any VyStar branch with your spare change, run it through their coin counting machine, and receive cash or deposit it into your VyStar account.

Campus USA credit union on 441/27 in Summerfield takes loose coins and has a counter in the back room
...not sure if you must be a customer, or that the money can only be deposited into your account though

Citizens first bank on 466 has a machine where you can dump your coins in and it counts it for you then you can bring it to the teller to cash in. I believe you have to be an account holder, but don’t hold me to that.

You will get an amazon gift card that you can use on your regular amazon account I did this at Winn Dixie machine at Old Camp Road last year. I would check to make sure it hasn't changed.

The large Walmart stores will allow you to dump your coins for free and you get a Walmart card for it. Not sure if when purchasing an item with the card you can get cash back.

Good luck with finding a free service, but maybe they're trying to tell you to stop hoarding change? I never have more than a dollar's worth of change. It's so satisfying to give the change to cashier, unload the extra weight and just get bills back.

My bank, Bank of America, has taken loose change, bagged it up and sent it off. In a few days, I have a deposit of the total in my checking account. No charge. I haven’t done this in the last year however.

Not True.
I recently took approximately $1000 in rolled coin to Citizens First Bank in Colony Plaza.
No problem, they just put the rolled coin into the normal rolled coin bins.

I always take my loose change to a coin star matching (Winn Dixie at Pinellas) and put it through. You select Amazon credit and it prints off a receipt with a code. Go home and put the code in your Amazon account and the money shows up as a credit in you account. If you don't use Amazon that will not work. Also think you can get a 100% credit to be used in Winn Dixie, but I always use the Amazon.

I like rolling the coins up myself, so that's what I do. And then, I spend the rolls. It's legal tender - as long as a cashier accepts cash (some are card-only these days), they have to accept yours. They can make you unroll it, but they usually won't. Or they might ask the manager for permission to accept it rolled up, which is an extra minute of time. I can wait an extra minute.
It's definitely more efficient than bringing it to a bank, having them convert it, just so you can spend the SAME amount of money somewhere else.
Just bring it to the place you intend to spend it, and then spend it.

Most banks will do it free of charge but you have to roll your change. Machines are becoming thing of the past because banks have to many problems with non coins getting stuck in the machine. So just roll your own and then they will take it no problem.

466A near Lowes. And yes, they have a counter and it's no charge if you are a member.
The Win-Dixie at Pinellas has a machine that you can pick a gift card for 100% of the coins. I usually get the Amazon one since I use them a lot. The machine prints out the card.

I just called Citizens First and confirmed they DO have a coin counting machine at the Southern Trace/466 branch, BUT THERE IS A MANDATORY FEE (lady wasn't sure of the amount, but thinks it's 4-8%) that supposedly goes to "local schools".

Tried our local CU, Insight. They said "no", they would not, a little disappointing since we had deposited a substantial amount with them when we chose them, but business is business and don't expect any special treatment ! Ended up with several large containers thrown in the trunk and took to grand kids... LOL ! FYI, was also refused request for $50 NEW one dollar bills to hand out at Christmas, seems they don't fill any requests for NEW bills..... the "old idea" of a CU is out these days I think, more like a bank now. Oh well :ohdear:

So, details ? Where are these/this machine located ? And, to get credit for your coins for a store such as Lowes, do you get an actual gift card back ? Or, how do you know and prove what credit you have ? Are there a variety of stores to choose your "credit" ? Kind of sad, was such a good way to begin kids saving, just the act of taking the coins to the bank was a valuable experience, and good public relations for the bank !

I hate carrying dollar bills so always get two dollar bills from the bank. Since very few people use them they are always new and crisp. I also carry a couple dollar coins which then requires math to round up :)
