to poop in. They moved in a few months ago, and let their animals out their back door to do their business. They live a few doors down from us, and I've only had to clean up their mess three times, but that is three times too many. I'm reluctant to make a huge deal about this, e.g., call The Villages, but it is starting to annoy me. Any thoughts on how this should be handled? Thanks.

Stop down and introduce yourself. Mention that you think their dog has gotten lose a couple of times and gone in your yard so you would appreciate it if they could make sure he was on a leash when he was out of their yard. Try and educate them and make them a friend.

Well said RJM, That's how I would handle it too. If you happen to see their dog in your yard it wouldn't hurt to snap a pic or two if you have your camera or phone handy.
I've rarely had an issue with a neighbor which could not be resolved with a conversation and perhaps a brew or a cup of joe.

What I did was ask my neighbor to be on the lookout for someone walking their dog through our backyards since I had found poop back there a couple of times. I knew it was their dog but this way they didn't have to admit it was theirs unless they wanted to and I didn't have to confront them about the issue. It saved face and, more importantly, worked.

I have been in my garage and had neighbors letting their dogs do the doo doo in my yard many many times in the short three months we have lived here. I know it is wrong and have said so on this board, but I just don't think it is a big enough violation to my privacy to say anything to them. We never use the yard for anything and I see no damage being done so Doggies of Duval come and doo doo that doo doo that you doo so well right here on my front yard.

NOTE: Please remind your masters to pick up the big pieces.

When we return in October we will find poop in the backyard. When we are north our neighbors don't have to walk THROUGH our back yard to cut through to the Odell center to let their dog poop there....they don't carry bags so I am assuming that they leave it there on the ground at the Odell.

Fortunately SOME of it will biodegrade. The walking through bothers me although it doesn't HARM anything.

I am in a bad mood. I still don't like Lauren Ritchies attitude. I find in uncaring and gloating.

No, the way to solve this problem is to have your dog do his thing in your own yard on your own grass!

If you dog needs to walk a distance before he gets his "urge" then walk the dog in a circle around your own home. Then you take your dog for his exercise walk and keep him off everybodys yard and on the edge of the roadway.

My dog does not relieve herself on anyone's yard except ours. It's not that difficult if the owners will put the effort into it.

I think it is a matter of regional habits. Many people come to the villages from rural type locations where the custom is to just let the dog out. I lived in the country with 5 acres and let my dog go wherever he pleased.
When we moved to our condo, we had to learn how to pick up after our dog. Needless to say, I thought it was disgusting to pick up poop with a plastic bag by hand. LOL

I had to get accustomed to it.

I'm guessing this is in the top three issues to be discussed since TOTV started almost 4 years ago.

It's an on-going, never-ending, universal problem.

Back in the early 70s I served on my private street's Board of Trustees for 3 years. The BIGGEST discussion at the Annual Meeting of Residents was always about controlling wandering, pooping dogs.

When I served again for a couple of years just before coming to TV, the BIGGEST discussion at the Annual Meeting of Residents was always about controlling wander, pooping dogs!

What's make it even worse, I think, is that nearly half the residents (i.e., some 20-25 homeowners) were the same people!

We specifically bought a Villa, so we could let our Romeo out in the yard and not have him wander around the neighborhood.

I can sympathize with those who don't have dogs and end up with poop in their yard. In our CT. home, we have a large penned in area, so Romeo doesn't get out and do the same. BUT, our neighbors across the street let their dog out all hours, and he CROSSES the street automatically to poop in our yard. Never does it in THEIR yard...where is the justice in that, lol.

I've mentioned it to them, and they smile and say, okay, but next day...same thing. :1rotfl:

You would think that there would be more complaints about what dogs do with their hind legs after peeing or pooping. This can and sometimes does rip up the yards. http://www.mycorgi.com/forum/topics/poop-dance?page=2&commentId=1150197%3AComment%3A639805&x=1#1150197Comment639805

From link above--

"Not sure what to call this, but after every poop (and sometimes pee), my corgi mix kicks back her feet (like a dance) in an attempt to cover up her poop (like a cat). I try to discourage this behavior because now that it is spring time and the ground is soft, she is tearing up our lawn and our neighbor's lawns. Is this a corgi characteristic and has anyone been successful in getting their dog to stop doing it?
Thanks!"

I have sometimes gotten a shirt full of poop after trying to find the poo in the dark to pick up while my dog does his little after poo dance.

First of all, your neighbor doesn't give a rats butt if their dog doo-doo's in your back yard, they know what the dog is doing by the minute. What you have to do is collect lots of dog doo-doo and place the big pile in their front step. You shall never ever have a problem again. It works! Guaranteed.

This works and stops the dogs from coming in your yard, they remember well, Go to the flea MKT and get a big bottle of hot pepper flakes, Grind them up in your food processor to a fine power, (Do this in your garage because the dust will really make you sneeze) Sprinkle it along your property line, When the dog starts to walk in your yard it will sniff the pepper and believe me it will leave, Iv' e tried it and it works, Every time the dog walks by your house it will cross the street

The big friendly dog never came back.

I have rarely if ever seen a dog wandering around the neighborhood in the Villages unless it somehow escaped from its owner's house.

The worst thing I ever saw was a friend's puppy walking home with an arrow sticking horizontally from chest to tail because some evil neighbor did not like it coming on his or her lawn/yard.

This was in a rural area of Reno, Nevada almost 35 years ago and probably also had some to do with a neighborhood fued.

Lawn and yardcare though really should take a second or even third seat to the welfare of dogs and cats as well as to the relations between neighbors.

Thankfully where I am in the Villages the neighbors look out for one another as well as care for each other's pets.

I not suggesting anyone do this but.............

I had a neighbor years ago, he let his dog loose on garbage day and it would knock over the cans and make a mess on my driveway. I spoke to him about it twice and he pretty much ignored me.

Next garbage day I left a hot dog on the pail which had two ex-lax in it. Never hurt the dog but the mess had to be grand. Dog was never let out off the least again.

No Animals were injured during the posting of this message.

Please, I am not suggesting that anyone do this but, this discussion reminded me of Halloween back in Brooklyn NY, when I was one of a group of evil little kids. Now everyone back then, always had at least one grouch living on his block that would chase us away if we were playing in the street in front of his house. You know, games like stickball, punchball, ringalevio (spelling?) Johnny on the Pony or whatever. Soooo on Halloween, we would go out and find some dog poo, put it a paper bag, twist the top shut. Then we would sneak up in the dark and put it on old grouchy's front stoop. Then we would light it on fire and ring his/her door bell and run away to watch the fun when the grouch came out and stomped out the fire. HEH, HEH, Heh.

Don't Ya sometime's just feel like bein' a kid again ???????

We had a similar issue with a neighbor's dog. The large dog's early morning routine as it ran unleashed, included depositing a huge pile of poo on our front steps. Despite our polite request to the dog's owner, to "please keep your dog on a leash" with explanation of WHY, the dog became used to his early morning deposit. OUR dog was safely doing her thing in a 9ft long cement, roofed, fenced, do run which we kept clean. We patiently stored a week's worth of both dog's deposits in a large plastic contractor bag. Now this was during high summer in ol Virginny's hot and humid weather. By the end of the week, the bag was positively heaving (literally). Under cover of darkness, and with his nose plugged with Vick's:clap2:, my Ninja husband unloaded the quagmire on the neighbor's front yard. No further exchange was necessary, and the neighbors' dog was leashed from then on......:clap2:

I like dogs...but that being said people should be responsible pet-owners. When we lived "up north" our house was on a busy street which also meant alot of people walking their dogs. We used to get their droppings quite often in our yard. One time I even caught a guy letting his dog pee on the flowers. I got a "dirty" look when I told him we didn't appreciate that. (probably lucky that was ALL I got). Another time I was chatting with a neighbor down the street. I would see her out walking the dog in ALL kinds of inclement weather several times a day and said something like, "You really are tenacious about your exercise!" She said, "oh, it's not that, Bowser won't go to the bathroom in our yard so we HAVE to walk him!" So---for them it was o.k. their animal pottied in everyone else's yards!!!!!

If it bothers you...I'd do what others said here. IF you do talk to them tell them that T.V. has a pretty strict policy re: pets and you wanted to let them know before the Neighborhood watch did, to save them face. I wouldn't do it in a confrontative way because they just might not realize what's happening. If it continues THEN go the next step of calling T.V.

We had an Invisible Fence installed in our home in Mass so our dog wouldn't go in our neighbors yard. Personally, I would never walk my dog for the purpose of letting them relieve themselves on someone else's property. Even worse, when someone walk's the dog in another neighborhood for that purpose. Since the neighborhoods are pretty large in TV, I'm sure several trips around the block will work. That way your own neighbors will get to meet your dog and I get to meet my neighbors dog. I might be way off on this, but, they probably walk their dogs in other neighborhoods so they don't anger their own neighbors. When we were down for a couple of weeks in October, as I was leaving the house early one morning, I saw someone letting the dog go on my driveway and finish up on the lawn. He picked it up, so I bit my tongue. A couple of days later, while I'm on the lanai with a morning coffee, here comes the same dog. The owner has a retractable leash and lets the dog onto my neighbor's yard to urinate on their newly planted palm and shrub beds. In my mind, there is no reasonable excuse for this. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be dogs in TV because I love dogs too, (see my avatar, his name is Murphy) but my dog is for my enjoyment, and I will not have him impose on someone else's enjoyment. Sorry for the rant.

Years ago, I remember that funny stint Steve Martin did on SNL. He was dressed up as a Roman General in his tent at night,(the men didnt like him to well), anyway in the middle of the night someone brings over a bag of some dog or horse....and lights it, then before running away bangs on the tent cover or whatever to get the Generals attention, when Steve Martin ran to the flap of the tent and saw this small fire, he naturally started stepping on it to put it out, very funny.
Hmmm, wonder if that old trick would work in this case?

Some may not like it but it made me feel better. I had a pig of a neighbor with two dogs who thought my front yard was the porta potti. Well when I went out in the yard I brought a garden shovel with me and scooped up the poop and fired it at the house, the windows the car, the porch, wherever it landed. Worked for me and shortly there after --it stoped coming in my yard.
I've noticed several tards with small signs reminding people to clean up their poop. There's even a reminder notice at the Bonita Mail station. I often wondered why people walked their dog to do there buisness.

Do you play basketball? I don't know about your hoop shot but you seem to have the poop shot down pat. :evil6:

Pooh does too have a warped sense of humor. Pooh is perfect. I love her.

What GG said!

Wow! I'm still laughing at that one. :D You and I have the same sense of humor! And as for Pooh, I've had the pleasure of meeting her, and she has a great sense of humor too! Just not as warped as ours. :loco:
Dear Gracie and P, I was trying to be a gentleman, but now that the truth is out, all three of you are as warped as George and I! :loco::loco::loco::loco::loco: Seeing how TV is famous for clubs, why don't we start a warped humor club? We can hold our first meeting on February 30th and have open membership on April 1st. Ask Fumar if he would be Grand Marshal of our parade.:coolsmiley:

Bargee....my first thought when reading this is that the sound of the air horn woulda scared the cr*p out of him...thereby somewhat defeating the purpose.

Nothing seems to happen in this YouTube. I just get the same picture for 8 minutes.

This person must have one huge pooper scooper bag.

Oh, Hooray, a new club! Better not show up in the club roster or we'll have to book a room in Orlando....so many will want to join! My calendar shows commitments on those dates, but I'll change them.....this club is more important than....well, almost anything!...:D:D:D

I'll bring pie.

I'm seeing a trend starting in this thread. Ladies, since I'm not there, you'll have to do some recruiting......Taltarzac, villages07 and a few others (you know who you are!) look like prime candidates. Go get 'em girls!

Dog, yards, doggie poo......just thought I'd keep the thread on topic for a bit.

Honestly, the goodies being prepared for the first meeting of the new club sound really, really good!

Doggies, air horns, water, neighbor's........

Girl, you are making me very afraid to read your posts. This punnishment has got to stop. And your sense of humor is not warped -- slightly dented, but not warped.
