One of our movie theaters, Old Mill Playhouse, re-opens on Friday, February 19 with many CO-VID prevention safety features. Only one auditorium opening with six feet distancing; limited seating; hand santizer available; staff health checks, required hand washing and mask wearing; recommended guest mask use, etc.

Their first movie for the February 19 to March 4, 2021 period is "News of the World" starring Tom Hanks.

I assume they will be opening the auditorium which seats 300? This is Auditorium 1. I have seen many movies there since they opened Old Mill Playhouse around late November of 2005. King Kong being one of the first.

I recall being the only person at this showing at Old Mill Playhouse in 2005 and it was very unnerving. Still recall that Jennifer Carpenter did a great job in the role of Emily Rose.

...personally ZERO interest in returning to movie theaters to watch a flick. No doubt so many of us have become comforted by watching movies in OUR home theater. Ability to pause the film, our own snacks/drinks, no crowds, no masks, our own comfy seats, no one chewing- coughing - smacking, slurping etc, and so on.

Would MUCH rather pay $6.95 or such and be in OUR environment.

On the other hand, for live shows - I am AOK to attend those.

Wearing a mask while watching a movie is a pain. Have to do it when I donate platelets and that is with a needle in both arms so you have to ask a phlebotomist to adjust it every so often. And if your choice in movies is a bad one then you are stuck with what you started.

I did want to see News of the World
but it does come out on DVD/Blu Ray in about five weeks. Love Tom Hanks in just about anything. He has only made a few movies I did not care for at all.

Got a year of Apple TV+ with purchase of a new iPhone. So far, Greyhound is the only movie I have watched. It is very well done but has very little plot. I watched it because my dad manned the radio room on a Coast Guard cutter during WW2, looking for U-boats.

I am looking forward to seeing On The Rocks with Bill Murray. With 3 or 4 Sixers games a week right now it is difficult to schedule movie nights!

Those of us who are vaccinated can enjoy going to a movie theater. I can't wait. Hope I will be able to snack on popcorn SLOWLY so I don't have to put on a mask.

I have really missed the experience in a movie theater especially with the really large screens. Not to mention the audio systems. We can not duplicate that sound in our home. We had a home theater set up in NJ but it is still not the same as a movie house.

I do not plan to wear a mask in a movie theater but will make sure I am distanced from the next party. If I must wear a mask, I won't be going.

I have not seen any movies opening of late worth a trip out-of-the-Villages. Wonder Woman 1984 looks like a very weak sequel to what I thought was a very good first movie in Wonder Woman.

Confusing: It was tough to figure out what was going on according to the paper as to where and when to buy tickets. I rode down to Box Office in Sumter and "closed" so went to Old Mill and talked to girl outside and told tickets don't go on sale until Friday. I also read times of movie in paper were 3:00, 5:00 and 7:30 and when I looked at marquee outside of Old Mill the times were 2:00, 4:30 and 7:00. I was also told you can't buy tickets at Brownwood or Spanish Springs. Today in paper they now say the movie is also showing on THURSDAY!!! So, will I do down today to buy tickets or wait until Friday to buy tickets for Thursday?? Much confusion as to what Tom, Dick and Harry are doing - poor communication.

I will probably wait at least until I get vaccinated. To me though there is nothing like watching a movie on the big screen. At home you can have a 65 inch television and the best surround sound system there is, which I have, but it still is not the same.

Stop telling me what to do. If you are so afraid, that even after getting your vaccine you wear a mask, that is your prerogative. Stay home. I do not go to movie theaters because I no longer supportive of Hollywood and their big mouth actors who have a vacancy where a normal brain would be. I am tired of seeing them promote their political agendas into the movies that should be fun to watch and tired of paying a fortune to watch bad movies with no plot and all special effects.

I too have had both shots now but I can see where a lot of people that have had zero shots would not wear a mask and put people at risk. You never know if the anonymous person sitting next to you eating the popcorn has covid or any other communicable disease.

That IS a strange contradiction because BOTH are indoor and in public. I would think that considering the dual conditions of the NEW more dangerous CV variant starting to spread in Fl. and the fact that vaccines are SOON becoming widely available, that this Playhouse could ABSTAIN from making PROFITS for a few more weeks or months. They are picking PROFITS over LIFE in their blatant admission of GREED. They should place on their marquee the philosophy, 'Greed is Good' ! ANY establishment that does that should not be supported!

I saw the movie "News of the World" with Tom Hanks (my son is part of the academy that votes on Oscars, and on occasion if he thinks I might like one of the movies that he prescreens, he sends me the DVD, with the understanding that I destroy it)

bring a pillow...it is a slow mover. After a couple of days I began to feel that "I kinda liked it"

When I go to the movies I like to be entertained

I disliked the subliminal message that I should feel guilty about racism that occurred close to 175 years ago....I wasn't there and my ancestors hadn't come over yet

Absolutely, must keep a good distance away from anyone when we finally do go to a movie theater. It should be very easy to maintain the proper distance, even more than what is required. Actually, that won't happen for me for a long while because hubby still needs to be vaccinated and he is not in the current group of eligible people.

As for wearing a mask, we have been dining in restaurants since the restaurants were allowed to open. So far, so good with maintaining a good distance away from fellow diners. I feel that will be the same for inside a movie theater.

Why people who got the vaccine think they are save from getting and giving Covid is beyond me.....like little sheep who refuse to believe that hills have wolves.

Just this evening, I heard Dr. Fauci claim that there is new evidence that people who have been vaccinated may not spread the virus. This is the news I've been waiting to hear. I just didn't think it would come so soon. I think Dr. Fauci did use the word "may" but at least this is in a positive direction rather than negative news.

I don't think anyone on this forum has ever said they can no longer transmit the virus after being fully vaccinated. In fact, the information we have all been getting is the exact opposite. That is why when I heard Dr. Fauci make this statement today, I was very encouraged by the news.

I think you are misguided with this statement. Those folks who have been vaccinated are very much protected by 95%. The reason for continuing to wear a mask is to protect others. We have been asked to continue to wear masks because the scientists are still not sure if vaccinated people can still pass on the virus. Vaccinate folks are protected by the vaccine so wearing a mask is not because they are afraid.

As I just said in my previous post, there is some new evidence that fully vaccinated people may NOT pass the virus to others. That is fantastic news!

No one will be sitting "next to me". I will move if some one sits too close to me. We have been living with social distancing for a year now. I know what 6 feet distance is and in a movie theater I will make sure I'm at least 10-12 feet away from the next party. That should be easy enough to do. If not, I will leave the theater.

How can anyone wear a mask while eating popcorn? What you are saying is that people should continue to wear masks while eating in a restaurant. It is not going to happen. Being DISTANCED from others is what needs to be done in a movie theater and restaurants.

I have been one of the biggest proponents for wearing masks ever since this pandemic began. I am still a huge proponent of wearing a mask. Having said that, I will not wear a mask in a movie theater if I am DISTANCED from everyone else and I am munching on popcorn. Sorry if you feel I'm selfish, but I do not agree with you.

Regal pointe orlando with it's 6 story high movie ?????? Screen and acoustics is a marvel.
Parking next door is validated inside the theater. There's an elevator and wonderful restaurants nearby as well as nice, reasonable hotel rooms. The screen is so immense that i have found myself scanning several locations on it as fast as i could.

Yes, I would if I were governor for a period of a few months until the war with CV is won - and not a minute before. These half-measure, baby steps are just incompetent "happy talk". Otherwise, we will be living with CV for the rest of our (older types) lives. We could have stopped CV cold even WITHOUT vaccines. In fact, we have so much disease in the US that it may be too late to stop it for everybody right now. Not everyone is lucky enough to have 2 shots in their bodies - and without everybody without CV, then no one is safe. Not even a 2 shot person. Too early to celebrate and do a victory dance! Nothing personal!

I thought all along I have had a hard nosed POV on mitigating this virus with mandating masking and social distancing. You have certainly surpassed what I feel are necessary measures. I applaud you but I'm certain many small businesses and restaurants would not go along with being shuttered all this time.
