Where to buy packing boxes and bubble wrap

I believe Walmart sells bubble wrap also an office supply store i.e. Staples or Office Depot. When we made a move I went to the Publix Liquor Store and got all the boxes I need for free. I did have to make a couple of trips since at each visit there weren't enough.

All the big box stores have these, I think walmart has the lowest prices, but I also think these are SINGLE layer, the Lowe's and Home Depot are typically DOUBLE layer.

Home Depot has regular and heavy duty boxes. They have handles on the side for easier handling.

Drive around in one of the new villages. I would have loved to have given all of ours away when we moved in. Our trash pile looked like we were building a pyramid in front of the house.

One word of caution. Being naturally cheap, I bought the cheapest boxes at home depot for our move. They were fine until it rained. The boxes caught out in the rain completely fell apart - I could watch the seams dissolve.
Maybe they are made better now, this was 10 years ago, just a word of warning.

Free is the way to go!

Liquor boxes are good as long as they don't cut the tops off and if you can get them all in the same size, they stack better. Banana boxes from any of the supermarkets are terrific. Flatten the heavy paper inside them for the bottom. They are very strong and have cut-outs for handles. Walmart is good later in the day when they are re-stocking. They have larger boxes if you need bigger ones. If you are worried about the cleanliness of a box, line it first with a plastic bag.

I buy all my moving and shipping supplies at U-line.com, they have everything and their boxes are very heavy duty. Not cheap but you don't have problems with them. They deliver within 48 hours, usually the next day.

Sometimes moving companies have used boxes

When we moved here our moving company had all we needed for free.

Otherwise big box stores should have them in various sizes

If you’re on Nextdoor, there are often folks trying to give them away.

Uhaul has good boxes that if unused are returnable if you keep the receipt. Various sizes for specialty items, etc. I have also used Uline and they are also good quality.

These boxes can be infested with roaches and such. Best be careful if going this route

Home Depot or Lowe’s. Buy as many as you want and return the one you don’t use

We moved to Florida a couple months ago from Minnesota. I found the best place to buy 3M bubble wrap was from Sam’s Club. The best place to buy 3M shipping tape was Costco. The best places to buy cardboard boxes was Walmart, Menards, Home Depot, and Lowe’s. The best place to buy plastic film wrapping was Walmart. We probably spent a few hundred dollars on the packing supplies, and used Upack ABF for the move.

Some items are odd sizes and won’t fit in cardboard boxes. I bubble wrapped those items and cut cardboard boxes flat, to form cardboard around the items, like large stereo speakers. It took a couple large boxes to wrap items. I then used junk wire to wrap and tie the cardboard to the items.

Large artwork paintings were wrapped in cut flat cardboard. Then wrapped in soft blankets. Then wrapped with plastic film wrapping.

The very fragile item were bubble wrapped only, and we carried inside our vehicle.

True, Ive purchased from Home Depot several times and the boxes are very sturdy. But if youre not in a rush, keep checking publix and Publix liquor stores. Ive had lots of luck in the liquor stor since the boxes are very strong holding the bottles

We're in the process of moving my mother into her home in DeSoto. My wife put out a notice on The Villages Talk on Facebook and Nextdoor towards the end of the first day. Several folks came within an hour and we disposed of 75% of the dishpacks, wardrobe boxes and several boxes of packing paper almost immediately. The rest was picked up the following morning which gave us more room in the garage yesterday for more boxes and paper and those will be gone this morning. If you find a listing, go immediately to pick them up, this stuff moves faster than I ever would have guessed.

We bought all of our boxes and bubble wrap at Walmart. Very inexpensive compared to places like U-Haul, Home Depot, etc.

Nice to use caution but I have never found a box infested with roaches........let's not scare ourselves to death. I like the expression "if it's free it's for me."

We assume the original poster is looking to move. That may or may not be so.

My two cents worth. In high school I had a job shipping expensive laboratory glassware.
Few know how or would take the time to pack as I do.

As others have suggested people who have moved in are happy to give all the boxes and packing materials you might need. You can buy boxes from the stores like Lowes, Home depo, Walmart etc. For quantity in a size you can locate companies that sell misprinted,
and or overrun boxes.

Free. All the grocery stores get in tons of stuff in boxes. I'm sure there is a good day a best time to visit your local grocery for boxes. We moved about eight years ago but still see the guys loading the shelves and go hey we could have used them-eight years ago.

Boxes for storage in your garage, is not a good idea. Insects, tend to nest in them.

I had to send a bunch of boxes of paintings north in December. I bought packing boxes at Home Depot, some of them heavy boxes for wardrobes. The woman at The UPS annex said they weren’t heavy enough and showed me that they were maybe rated for 60 lbs, while she said I needed boxes with around a 150 lb rating. Maybe they sold them there. I don’t know. I shipped them elsewhere.

One good place to buy boxes is any U-Haul rental shop.

I think the post was referring to super markets as they may well have had food in them or stored near food in a warehouse somewhere. It only takes a couple to cause a problem at home. I would go there last.

Let me give you a good hint, purchase boxes at UHAUL. They take back any unused I bought several packs of every size when moving her to TV. It was worth the price. I also bought their good packing tape that actually sticks to the box & its easy to remove incase. I love their bubble wrap & dish boxes, very handy & really not high priced.

You can order from Uline but shipping is high. I purchase boxes for my business for the first time from Packaging Price and they were quite reasonable; shipping costs as well. Many sizes to choose from. Came quickly.

I wouldn't recommend any boxes that have had food. If you have them for any length of time you end up with bugs. I've moved 3 times in 3 years and always purchased supplies from U Haul. I've compared prices with Home Depot and U Haul wins. You can order online and have delivered. If you order too many you can easilyreturn and many outlets have a spot that people can return used boxes that you can get free.

Apparently it worked out for you. Paintings are difficult to properly pack, broad and flat.
If, it was fine art, expensive, I doubt the would pay on an insurance claim. If, valuable they should be crated.

Wrapping anything as stated, long ago, I had a summer job packing expensive laboratory glassware. The corrugated cardboard used to make boxes is fairly light easy to cut and great for shock absorption. When, we moved, I would put a second layer cut from another box on the bottom of the box and the top. More fragile stuff, I would also
line the sides of the box.

Of course, buying boxes is never a bad idea other than the fact that it gets expensive if you need a lot of them.

Liquor boxes are clean. Boxes from supermarkets that have food in them are also clean. Unpackaged food is never thrown in a box and any box that you have for any length of time will always get a bug or two. Roaches are attracted to the glue in all boxes and you will never void that if you keep them for a while.

This is probably off the topic, but you might consider plastic storage boxes. At $8 each (for a 27 gallon tote) they are more expensive, but they stack and will last much longer. We are moving down and need to store our stuff for a few months, so the cost is worth it. Plus we can sell them later or keep them for garage storage.
