A question for you who had 2nd dose and got sick. I got it yesterday and need to travel down to TV. How long did it take to get sick ( if you did ) after the shot? Some says 24 hours and some says 48 hours. How long did it take to recover enough to drive 10 hours straight?
Cheers!

I had the Moderna vaccine. First shot, no problem. Second shot, fine until the evening when chills and mild fever appeared, as well as soreness in my shoulder muscle so bad I couldn't raise my arm above waist-level. Next day, I felt a bit unsteady on my feet and very tired. Day three, shoulder is still a little sore, but no other side effects. Good luck.

I *think* it depends on whether you got Moderna or Pfizer vaccine. My dad (94) got Pfizer with no side effects. My husband got Moderna with effects described by Alwann. I also got Moderna, with no side effects.

What I heard and have read about is the side effects besides the sore arm at the injections site is because of a robust immune response. Those robust responses usually occur in younger folks because they have stronger immune systems.
I'm not a younger folk but my immune system kicked ass. Fourteen hours after my second Moderna shot, I wound up with a 102.6 fever with the usual effects of a high fever. By that night, my temp broke and by the following morning I was back to normal and good to go.
Now I understand why I never get sick, not a flu or even a common cold for many years. I'm happy to know I've got the immune system of a much younger person.

OK thanks everyone for your input. Its been 28 hours and I had some aches and pains here and there but nothing serious. It was Pfizer both times. I am 65 and healthy ( so I think :-) ) I'll be leaving tomorrow, should I still be worried? I don't want to get sick while driving..

We are all different how can you be sure?

There seems to be a lot of differing factors. Some say the older one is the less they suffer side effects. Some say, one brand vaccine has less side effects than the other. Others say the opposite one is worse. Who knows? Flip a coin.

Had 2nd Moderna shot yesterday at 12:00 noon. Around 1:00 PM arm sore and red circle about 2 x 2 inches around shot area. Slept ok; but arm hurt and now a day and 6 hrs later feel very tired. Other than a sore red circle - all is good!

I had a delayed redness reaction at the injection site after my first Moderna shot. It took one week for the site to become reddened and about 5 days for the redness to subside. I did not have any redness at the injection site at all after the second shot, just the soreness that I experienced with both shots.

Anecdotal, but after second Moderna shot on Wednesday 2/24, I had no side affects. I'm in my 70s. I thought I had a headache 24 hours later, but it was sinus related.

I had the 2nd Mederna shot yesterday at noon. Unfortunately I had chemo on Weds which always makes me feel like crap for a few days. So the 2 combined has me down for the count. So glad I did not take that 20 hour drive. Not sure how long it will take to turn the corner but hopefully soon.

I woke up the next morning with a splitting headache, body aches, chills and fever. Took Tylenol and felt pretty good in 36 hours.

I had no side effects from the second shot. That being said my husband had some slight flu like symptoms (nothing that sent him to his bed). A few Tylenol and he was fine the next morning.

With the first shot I was the one that didn't feel well for the first evening and got over it in 24 hours. For the second shot my wife stayed in bed for three days straight. So really it just depends you're asking an unanswerable question. You have to get your shots and take your chances

No reaction/side effects from either shot (Pfizer) at all. Safe travels.

Some folks have no sickness whatsoever after the second shot. From what I have heard, those that do get it about 12 hours after the shot and it can last for maybe a day. They have flu like symptoms of achiness and chills and potentially a little bit of a fever. I don’t know what the percentages are of those that have the symptoms or those that have none? At any rate, it’s worth any inconvenience or discomfort once we have completed both shots.

It varies with each person but it seems if you feel ill, within 24-36 hrs you are back to normal. I also think many are expecting to get sick and bring on the aches, pains and fatigue themselves. All in all, the illness effect of the shot is no big deal.

I had covid around Christmas. They told me the first shot of moderna is like the second because I had the virus in the past.
18 hours after the injection I thought I had covid. For the next 24 hours I had all symptoms I had at Christmas plus a migraine headache. It was deja vu all over again.
It’s can be very different for you.

Second Moderna shot and 24 hours later my feet and hands were so cold it felt like frost bite. That lasted for four hours and no I’ll effects after that.

I personally would go ahead and do the drive. The worse that can happen is having to stop and recover from whatever side effects are happening.

So far I haven’t heard of anybody getting sick. My Son in Law works at the Federal Prison & he said like the 1st shot a sore arm, that’s it. Haven’t heard anything in paper, TV or radio about anybody getting sick. But what do you consider sick, throwing up?

Sounds like the same the same thing when I got the shringrx vaccine for shingles.

Actually, it is a big deal for a lot of people and lasts much longer than 24 hours with the second shot of Moderna. Many people we know personally felt worse than they expected with the second shot.
We both had bouts of nausea, tiredness and lots of fleeting pains all over our bodies. And after a stint of no symptoms for a couple of days the fatigue and "wobbly" feeling on standing returned. This lasted for about two weeks and that is not uncommon.
We also think it was well worth every bit of feeling lousy.

Basically the whole thing lasted about 24 hours. Chills, body aches, fatigue.
The fatigue is pretty profound. Giving yourself a good 48 hours after the injection would be wise. Good luck!

I have recently heard of two people who had transient balance issues about 10 days after either vaccine dose. All of a sudden had some issues walking although no vertigo or dizziness. This was very short lived, thankfully.

I had my 2nd Moderna shot on Wednesday. The next day had 99.9 temperature. Took 2 Tylenol & a nap. Then afterwards, good to go! Arm very slightly red & sore but far less so than shingles shot.
Have a safe drive!

From what we’ve heard from our doctor and dentist, the side effects from the Pfizer shots were minimal and infrequent. They also report that as among those getting Moderna, reactions after the second shot are not uncommon. Some get “sick as a dog”, but it only lasts less than a day.
My wife and I got the Pfizer shots with virtually no side effects—maybe a slightly stiff arm at the injection site after shot #2, but nothing worse.

Thank you all for your response. It's been 48 hours and I have some aches and pains but nothing serious. Second night was a bit worse than the first but so be it. Only thing really weird is that I am no longer feel hungry after the shot. I can smell and taste as usual but no hungers. Has anyone experience that? Anyway, I will see you all ( not personally ) soon.

Moderna first shot,I had sore arm. Second shot different story , day after headache, sore throat, muscle aches, itchy red patch on arm at injection site. No fever....took Tylenol and recovered by the next day. Husband had Pfizer and had no issues (other than sore arm) with either shot.
Good luck and hope you are one who has no problem with shot#2.

It is possible that some who have a sore arm and red around the site may have made
their arm tight as they received the shot. It is not unusual for this to happen after any shot.
The reason is the fluid from the shot does not move away from the site. If this happens
I have been told to put heat at the site to get the fluid to move? Just an idea??

I also had Moderna and no side effects except...6 days later The same circle you describe showed up on my arm.Eight days later still there and seems to be getting a little larger and not quite a circle anymore. I’ll see my doctor on Tuesday for my annual check up and show it to him.

This pretty much sums up what people in our neighborhood have experienced. Lot's of chills, most reported that night later, not right after shot. A tired, "draggy" feeling for a day to four days. Two relatives have reported very dizzy and unsteady of feet the following day, not the day of the shot ! All had both types of vaccine and seems no difference in the after effects of them. None of those we know personally had any effects on the FIRST shot, all were after the second.

Like so many things, I don't think it's likely that the Villages TV, News paper, radio, etc. is going to be reporting on any vaccine related difficulties or for that matter, any that required ER trip. Not a conspiracy nut case, but, just think there will be considerable filters on any news concerning anything negative about the all the vaccines !

Maybe that improved immune system is due to huge doses of caffeine from the coffee bean.

I don't think so. I've been mostly caffeine free for 40 years.

I had exactly the same effect. First night OK. Second night about 3 AM had severe chills and shaking but I was not cold. Under the covers it stopped in 30 minutes. 2 hours later I woke up in a sweat with a low grade temperature. Daytime was OK. The next night, mild shakes but no fever. My arm is a little sore but that would happen even if they injected nothing in you. That's just the muscle reacting.
