To add to the insults, the Paramount Chief of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma wants Jeep to stop making vehicles called “Grand Cherokee.” I don’t know if he is serious or if this is a money grab, like charging money to people who want to put your name on a hotel or golf course. If it’s the latter, there is certainly precedent for a pay-out. The Department of the Interior has also decreed that Native Americans can now be officially called Tribals. And ICE has been told that “illegal aliens” is no longer acceptable language. They are now to be called “Noncitizens.” I don’t know how we are supposed to distinguish between Legal Noncitizens and Illegal Noncitizens if we call them both Noncitizens. Perhaps it just comes down to whether or not you have a green card. Meanwhile, the genuine Aliens among us now want to be called Extraterrestrials. They are hoping we have an Extra Terra. I just read where Loudoun Country, Virginia just removed Dr. Seuss from its schools because they feel it could have racial undertones. They are also considering the removal of Shakespeare. What needs to happen is we to need to start fighting back. I wonder what would happen if Hasbro found twenty five thousand people demonstrating outside its corporate headquarters in Rhode Island. If we stopped supporting these institutions of higher education by refusing to send our kids to them. If we stopped buying products from companies that bow down to these people. I think you would see a big difference. If we continue to do nothing I am afraid we will wake one morning living in a country like Russia or China. It may not happen in our lives but I think our kids are heading down a dark road. It’s time we started to speak out and cancel the cancelers.

The American culture exists because undocumented immigrants showed up from the other side of the planet, invaded the continent, and attempted genocide on the natives living here. Once they wiped out most of the tribes and took their females to OWN and rape, they then tore up the native lands and gutted their sacred graveyards and sanctuaries to build buildings. Of course they couldn't build the entire country themselves, so at some point early on, they imported slaves from Africa to do most of the hard work, including raping THEIR females and selling the offspring to other landowners.

We are talking about the advertising power in the name of products that help sell them. Mr. has always had connotations even beginning with...."WAIT a minute there, MR.!!!!!" You use all tools to sell a product. I always picked up my "Aunt Jemima" products with the sweet smiling, chubby older face and thought how warm and welcoming she looked. SHE, her picture drew us to the product and that helped sell it. I am sure Jeep uses the word Cherokee for one of it's models because it brings images of handsome and strong and wild and free and other good things. People try to give brands they want to sell a connotation that will be attractive.

Capitalism is NOT a bad word. It is the strength that runs our economy in this country. Advertising has a new culture. I rarely see anyone on Television touting a product or service that looks at all like the folks I see everyday. Maybe that is good and enlarging but it isn't always "old shoes-comfortable".

Once they wiped out most of the tribes and took their females to OWN and rape, they then tore up the native lands and gutted their sacred graveyards and sanctuaries to build buildings. Of course they couldn't build the entire country themselves, so at some point early on, they imported slaves from Africa to do most of the hard work, including raping THEIR females and selling the offspring to other landowners.

That is the "American culture."

Which - thankfully, has evolved over the past couple of centuries. You might prefer to continue murdering native Americans, raping the women and forcing black men to plow your fields at the end of a whip, but most Americans have a different culture now.

I remember typing that this thread was about the use of gender in advertising and how someone or someone's were fiddling with it.

BUT since you view what I think of as American Culture differently than I do, I will say this; I do not think of American Culture as you have portrayed it at all. When I think of American Culture, I think of strong, self reliant, hard working people taking not much and making it into a home and a life. I do not know of any single soul in my 81 years who would want slavery. Those people are dead. We, here in this culture of The Villages, A very alive American Culture, do not rape people or force them to work in the fields against their will, nor would anyone I have ever met here or anywhere condone that. It was things that happened to people who no longer live. Women died in childbirth before surgery and antibiotics but I do not think of THAT as American Culture. No one would wish THAT either.

Some people are fixated with arguing and have completely lost their humor. I refuse to be lectured. The "you" you speak of is not me nor anyone I would ever know.
