Sliding doors look great when they are new. Six months later, the tracks, frames, and caulking will be covered with mold and mildew, and the glass will be etched with calcium buildup. At least that has always been my experience.

Unless you are anal like me. I put a clear shower curtain liner on the inside /shower side of the doors. Keeps em spotless just change it out occasionally. New liner costs less than $5

I installed mine about 5 years ago, no issues at all - no buildup or anything. It depends on the part of the country you are in; well water or city water; filters, etc..
I agree that I have seen some nasty ones, but a simple weekly wipedown seems to keep mine like new..
So, I suppose it is a case of maintenance?

I did a search a couple of months ago and Robert Manning had a lot of good recommendations.

I only have a 47-1/2" inch wide shower, so I was thinking about using this horizontal sliding glass doors, only $317 at Lowes, $315 at Home Depot.

I installed these exact doors 5 years ago or so. Haven't had any issues. Just ensure the sidebars are tight into the frame and the rest kind of stays together tight as well. Since the top and bottom is 'cut to fit' just measure twice, cut once. Use plenty of clear silicon on the bottom track to keep it from moving and watertight with the lower casing of the shower.
I think you'll find these work quite well!

Weekly? Wow! No wonder my shower gets nasty.

Squeegee the door after you shower. Use white eraser sponge to get film off. Just regular cleaning keeps them looking great. I have had glass doors for decades.

HA HA - I don't mean a scrub-down!! I just mean a quick wipe with a washcloth and a bit of bleach. If you spend more that 2 minutes on it, you're working too hard.!

We had Perry Glass in Spanish Springs replace our slider with a frameless door. EXCELLENT quality and workmanship. You can also get carved glass doors but the do cost $ more. IMO; The look was worth the extra $ and it helped sell my CYV several years later because of the unique design of the doors.

Ken Berry shower doors. A little Pricy but worth every penny. Pay a little extra for the glass sealant and the water runs right off. Did our master bath with a door model and our hall bath with a sliding model. Love them both. Around $1,000 ea.

After every shower, stay in the shower, grab a towel and towel yourself off. Then when dry, wipe down the walls and door, drop the towel and wipe the floor. We had iron and hardness but our bathrooms look new for 35 years. If you love your place, put in a slight bit of effort to keep it nice.
Also, tempered, frameless shower doors can explode for no reason at all or hitting it on the edge. From a former plumbing wholesaler’s personal experience.

Call and go visit Perry’s Glass near Spanish Plaines shopping center. They’re the BEST! You won’t be sorry. I’ve used them for several glass projects, including two shower doors.

I put a rainx coating on my glass shower door, plus I wipe it down with towels every other shower. It is crystal clear, but we have a whole house filter plus water softener.
Ours is a door that opens on a hinge. I'm leary of the sliding doors. I've had them before and had trouble keeping the slot where the doors overlap clean. Maybe nowadays both doors slide.

The new, frameless glass are beautiful and stylish, but OMG a bear to keep clean...even with wiping down everyday, using rain-x protection on them, the vinegar and baking soda trick. It really floors me that this day and age something better hasn't been invented.
You have beautiful glass
Shower curtain
Cheap plastic fake glass.

Just ordered frameless doors from FSI in Ocala. They have a sealant they bake on. They cut their own glass delivery in 7-10 days.

I would agree about build up on the aluminum and glass. Buy the best quality materials or you will be dissappointed at the constant cleaning and polishing you will be required to do.

Use a squeegee after every shower on the glass.

We used Ken Berry out of Ocala, and he did a great job. We went with the frame-less doors. I just squeegee them after each use, just takes a few seconds, and use a glass cleaner occasionally. It really modernized the bathroom and gave it a "spa-like" look.

I highly recommend Active Mirror & Glass (352-427-8576 or 352-750-9877). We replaced our shower door with frameless and couldn't be happier with the job Jeff Correa and his team did. They were prompt, efficient, exceptionally tidy, affordable - a pleasure to work with all around!

Exactly what I would say about this company.
We had them do the leaded (actually bronze) glass door inserts for our double front doors plus installed frame-less custom carved shower glass door and panels and had them frame the flat glass mirrors in the bath rooms.
Excellent workmanship.
Excellent after the sale and after installation service.
