re: Magnolia Plaza... Publix... suggestions which other stores... Village-southerners
Thank you for asking. I live in Monarch Grove.

re: Magnolia Plaza, Publix
The new Publix opened just after I left town for a spell. I have not been there. The Publix at 695 Kristine Way, The Villages, FL 32163 is nice. You have to do some hunting for organic items - just ask. I assume the Magnolia Plaza location is similar. I will definitely be shopping there (Magnolia Publix) in the future.

re: suggestions
These Costco stores already exist:
1. Costco, 8000 Parramore Road, Jacksonville, FL 32244 <== I stop here on the way down to TV
2. Costco, 2225 Grand Cypress Drive, Lutz, FL 33559 <== Easy drive on I-75 south / Factory outlet mall & many other stores in Lutz
3. Costco, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714 <== Map services claim this to be the closest - maybe so, but the Lutz, FL Costco is such an easy drive (there is an Outlet Mall "next door")

Suggestions (part II - these do not exist locally [as far as I know]):
+ Sprouts Farmers Market
+ Whole Foods

What is already here?
1. The Villages Grown, 2666 West Torch Lake Drive, The Villages, FL 32163 <== Say 'Hi' to Owen
2. Fresh Market, 3470 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages, FL 32162

This one is for the sake of my friend, Janet, who just relocated to TV:
3. Trader Joe's, 3724 SW Archer Road, Gainesville, FL 32608

Please note that I buy:
1. Organic products
2. 100% grass fed beef

Yep! The new Publix at Magnolia has exactly the same layout as the one up in Trailwinds. According to one of the employees, this is the current plan they are using for new stores. It has self checkout registers and an upstairs seating area if you would like to eat your Pub Sub there. Overall, very nice!

According to Costco's web site there are not any plans to build in Wildwood. There is a possibility they will build in Clermont in 2021/2022. That would be 38 miles from my home. I hope it happens.

I was riding my bike by there around 7 am. The parking lot was packed. I am sure they know what they are doing and how many rooftops they need for a store. They will be fine.

We would need a minimum of 10 requests posted on that thread for us to contact Costco and make them an offer they could not refuse.

Went on opening day. This store is different than any other Publix in the area. Very smart layout. Refrigeration all behind glass doors for the most part. Was very happy with the services.

I like the store but would not shop there or Tradewinds because they do not have the fresh meat deli case with the great steaks you find at Colony and Lake Deaton.

Post No. 7 says it is exactly the same layout as the Publix at Trailwinds on Rt 466A. How is it different from that one?

I went to the grand opening yesterday morning. There was a very long line of people waiting to get in. It is a very nice Publix and has the same layout as the one at Trailwinds. They gave away very nice insulated bags to the early shoppers. I'm hoping it will relieve some of the traffic at the Publix at Lake Deaton where I shop. I'm very happy for the folks south of the turnpike so they can enjoy having a Publix closer to them now.

I hope people will credit me with being the first to say this. Shortly we will see an ad get a covid shot and get a $10 store coupon. Hey, they do it for the flu shot. Bogo get one for free and get the other for free plus a $10 store coupon?

We're not in TV, yet, but I love Costco! However, I've heard that storage space is at a premium inside of the houses in TV. That makes me wonder if buying in bulk would work.

I've heard people swear by the prices at Aldi, too. I've never been in one of those stores, though. I usually shop at Publix or Winn Dixie.

What's a Costco? Can't we get a Blockbuster Video? I have a movie I've been trying to return for quite some time.

Storage space at a premium..............depends on what you are storing.

We currently live within a mile of a Costco. We shop there weekly. You can buy things that are not in bulk. Their rotisserie chicken is an awesome deal and very tasty! Gas prices, ours has a gas station, are always cheaper than local prices. We'd love to see a Costco closer to the Villages! We will be moving there when our house is built, within 6 months, perhaps.

Build a designer home, make alterations and stretches and have extra space for storage. That is what we did. The large pantry my wife wanted is great.

I stopped in yesterday afternoon, and there were a lot of people there. I live in Monarch Grove, and am so happy to have a nice grocery store nearby. I will be going there regularly! I would love to have a Trader Joe’s, and a Costco, but I don’t think it is going to happen.

The wife and I are glad there is a Publix so close by. Lake Deaton isn't that far but Magnolia is a lot closer and more convenient. Other than that it is just another grocery store. We are waiting for Quest Diagnostics to open up. Every 3 months we have blood work done for our doctor and now it will be a lot more convenient than Colony or Grand Traverse.

I would love more interesting food options like Thai or Sushi. Or maybe an Outback or Bonefish grill? Also maybe a gas station (not sure if that's already planned) Maybe a Home Goods?

We lived in Peachtree City, GA a somewhat similar area to the villages. We had all the shopping anyone could want within 30 minutes in two different directions. But there was money to be made by someone for big box stores to be built so they were. Crime went up immediately and dramatically. The Walmart that was originally open 24 hours/day was forced to being open roughly the same as the other grocery stores in the area. Many there also kept bemoaning the fact that there was no bus service in town, and wanted MARTA to expand bus routes in the county. I'm sure it will happen at some point, I'm just glad we're not living there when it happens. People need to think long and hard about a business' impact on the local quality of life, not just the convenience of more & bigger stores close to the house. My .02.

I'm trying to envision how much food we'll need once we are official empty nesters and it's just me and my husband. We still have 2 young adults living at home who are in school/working. Right now we have a large walk in pantry filled with shelf stable food plus a large closet off of our kitchen filled with bulk goods - Costco sized packages of toilet paper, paper towels, bottled water, etc. We also have a beverage fridge and a full size freezer in our large garage. I think back to what we had on hand before kids all those umpteen years ago and it was nowhere near this amount of stuff. We had one spice cabinet, a regular fridge w/freezer compartment and a small (non walk in) pantry.

I think maybe I'll post a question asking people about how their food budget has changed since getting to TV. Do they eat out more often? How often do they shop for food, etc. How much do they buy in bulk. I'll do some searches first to see if this has already been asked and answered.

I swung there for a quick purchase yesterday around 7:15am. The parking lot was full and the Publix was very busy. I was able to receive a “Publix Magnolia Plaza” bag upon checkout. My wife and I went back later in the afternoon, still very busy, no bags left but we are SO happy to be able to go grocery shopping via GC. We live in Linden and it takes less than 5 minutes to get there.
Looking forward to restaurant opening up there. We strongly agree with another poster that a Japanese/Sushi and/or Bone Fish restaurant open up a Magnolia Plaza. A Barber shop would be nice as well.

Building it on 27/441 behind Lowes.

And now back to our regularly scheduled talk about when Costco will be coming.

Our oldest 2 eats Sushi 4 to 5 times a week, at a small Japanese market down the street in, ST Paul. When they come to visit, first stop is Fresh Market for the first of many daily returns, for Sushi. They kibbutz, with the maker who makes fresh what you want. They say it’s best they have found while traveling

Also shopped on opening day although I didn't need anything but did
anyone noticed there seemed to be just as many golf carts as regular cars?
And what was the deal with the off-duty FHP Trooper ?
Is the area really that terrible or was Publix management fearing
that the elderly would be shop lifting all the adult urinary diapers ?

Yes, everyone loves the active lifestyle in the villages, but change is hard, very hard, and foresight to understand secondary and tertiary effects of ones desires for convenience, is difficult to comprehend the somewhat unknown tradeoffs. One trade off is less cheap opportunities of urban life.

The biggest trade off of the rapid growth of TV is the middle of cow country is lack of services because of the lack of service personnel willing to relocate to the middle of cow country to serve in the middle of nowhere, when there are so many other more vibrant locales to live for the service personnel in the state.
