We live south of 44, our Verizon/Xfinity cellular service is terrible around our new home. We are looking at Spectrum as a new cellular carrier. Does anyone use Spectrum in this area, if you do how is the quality if service? Their coverage map shows total coverage west of 501.

Quick Answer: I cannot answer your question.

I also live south of 44, and southwest of the turnpike. I visited the Spectrum store on 466A and before we could come to an agreement, I balked at the $59 charge to take the service to my premises. Xfinity/Comcast apparently works with TV builders to prewire the new homes for service. Spectrum does not do this, hence Spectrum charges for the one time connection.

I haven't any connectivity in my home yet. The astonishes me because I am smitten by home automation in my premises up north. My southern home has become a tech sanctuary (no connectivity).

Spectrum is a Verizon MVNO so you'll gain nothing by doing that (ie. they resell Verizon service just like Xfinity and it's basically Verizon service)

Spectrum Mobile doesn’t actually own its own cellular network. Instead, it uses Verizon Wireless’s cell phone towers to power its mobile service. That’s good news for Spectrum Mobile customers. doesn't your phone have the option to use the wifi network in your house? We are on WIFI all day long and only on cell network when we leave the house.

We have lousy reception in Marsh bend, but are fine with wifi calling.

We have lousy reception in Marsh bend, but are fine with wifi calling.Except if you leave your house and there is crappy cell coverage WiFi won't help there. That may not be what you see but when we had AT&T at our location there was no coverage 0-1 bars within a block of our house. A real dead zone. That plus WI-FI calling isn't always the best quality. When we used that (before switching to a Verizon MVNO) there was always just enough tiny little bit of delay to make the calls very annoying. After switching to a Verizon MVNO we have full coverage wherever we have been. Location locatiuon location makes all the difference. Good for some bad for others.

You should be glad you switched. ATT is f* around with wifi calling, making it go to cell unless you turn off wifi calling all together. My wife's phone kept switching off wifi and the cell bills were high as she is on the phone all day. . . AT&T is still filled with the long line mentality versus verizon understands competition

Spectrum Mobile has saved us a bunch since switching from Verizon. Have had both their cable and internet since we moved here almost 7 years ago, no issues. Just north of 44. In the scheme of things, a $59.00 connectivity charge is insignificant if it accomplishes what you want it to. If it's all about price, then it would be an issue. IMO

There is no cell service south of 44

Not much north of 44 either

With 100,000+ people here now, maybe the wireless companies might think about adding a few new towers???

With 100,000+ people here now, maybe the wireless companies might think about adding a few new towers??? Right. But it's not the wireless companies. The problem was (still is?) towers were not allowed on T.V. property but about a year ago one suddenly grew on Buena Vista just north of 466A. Likely not T-Mo or AT&T because I am virtually LOS of that tower and none of those got any stronger here (I have sims for each provider to test). That was the first and only one on the property at least in the "north of 44 area" as I have no idea of the far south areas if there are any DIRECTLY on the property. They could put up a bunch of smaller towers that aren't as ugly. Seeing they haven't put any antennae on the big WVLG tower near 466 I wouldn't expect one anywhere else. The cell providers **PAY** to setup local towers on ones property if permitted or to rent space on existing towers. I have a friend up north who owns a building on a major highway US RT22 and Verizon built a 200' tower in it's back yard. They pay him thousands a month PLUS put and paid for the entire towns police/fire antennae on it PLUS put his and our ham radio repeater antennas on it on it at no charge. Evidently some palm scratching is needed for that around here. They can get more $$ per sq ft for commercial buildings than a tower here.

Pretty sure they require you to have spectrum internet in your home before you can get the cell phone even though one really has nothing to do with the other

Thanks for all of the information, we currently use Xfinity for mobile. We do use wifi calling in our home. We recently switched our internet provider from Xfinity to spectrum. The $49 to put in the drop will be recovered after the first month. Comcast was charging way to much for service that wasn't providing the speed we were paying for. We basically cut our internet bill in half and are getting better speeds on 400 Mbps service with spectrum than we were getting from Xfinity gigabit service. I kept having to reset the Xfinity modem almost every day.

Are you spectrum mobile and live south of 44. I have intermittent issues when I’m in my home but I believe that’s something to do with inside of my home because I have the same issue with Verizon.

I pay $45 a month for unlimited data and calls. I have that right because I also have spectrum for my Internet.

For me spectrum Internet Is best over Xfinity which I had previously. Spectrum offers me high-speed upload with my YouTube channel uploading videos with Xfinity became a challenge it was way too slow.

I hope this helps

I live in Marsh Bend. My T-Mobile cellular connection here is terrible. It is like a black hole. I know that Spectrum is now offering cell phone service. I understand they use Verizon towers, so I dont know that it will improve your problem. T-Mobile offers a device that you connect by ethernet to your router. It acts as a cell tower, in your home. It is not the same as a wifi connection. I had one at a different home, and I know it works. Verizon may offer the same device. You might ask them about it.

I am not having any problem with Verizon either in my rental in McClure (just south of the turnpike) and my new house being built in St Catherine.
Isnt that a cell phone tower on Meggison near the sewage treatment plant?

I have Comcast up North. They let me shut down while I’m in TV, charging me only State Fees that they can not control. Then, when i leave TV I reverse the process

Re: is cell service ok south of 44? in Marsh Bend?
Re: how do I get internet south of 44? in Marsh Bend?

Cell service is good or bad depending on carrier, location, type of phone, and how old or new your phone is.

When we bought our home in Marsh Bend near Lowlands in Sept 2019, Lowlands wasn’t open yet, AT&T cell service sucked, and only Comcast/Xfinity was available for Internet or TV.

We checked with Spectrum, and they said they would be in our part of Marsh Bend, “soon”. I did not want Comcast, so we used my AT&T hotspot for Internet for awhile. Though AT&T sucked, I was able to find a spot in the house that gave me reasonable internet and cell service. I also purchased Panasonic cordless phones that had “Link-to-Cell” capability. I could place our two cell phones in the part of the home where the Panasonic cordless phones could connect to make calls wherever I was in the house.

We got our Spectrum installed in early December, but AT&T sucked still. I learned about WiFi calling as AT&T would not activate our micro-Cell. A device that improved cell service in the home. All was good, as long as I was near our home.

We became full time in Jan 2020. Within a few months, AT&T activated a new tower nearby, and we had better cell service. Even better was that WiFi calling for voice and texts worked reliably for us.

In our case, we had newer Samsung and Apple cell phones. I also installed mesh WiFi network to make WiFi better throughout our home, our lanai, garage, and driveway. I’ve had very few issues with cell service when away from my home.

What about switching to another carrier or service?

Only AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile actually have towers. All of the other cell service providers simply are MVNO providers, piggy-backing onto one of the 3 companys’ cell towers. Each has benefits. Each has problems, depending on location.

Bottom line, you may or may not have issues, and problems might eventually disappear if you get newer phones, or adopt WiFi calling in your home.

You’ll get a better answer by talking to your neighbors to see what they are using. Asking here will get info from all over The Villages. You will learn more from your actual neighbors, as they may or may not have issues.

Good luck!

We are south of 44 in Chitty Chatty, and use Verizon. No issues, great coverage. Verizon has a plan that is currently only available in Florida for those 55 and over. Two lines, unlimited talk and text, unlimited 4G data, $80 per month. We went into the Verizon store across 44 from Brownwood when we moved here in December, and the young man switched our plan to the discounted Florida senior plan right then and there. Love saving money.

Mint Mobile, an MNVO using the T-Mobile network.

2 phones, unlimited talk and text, and 4 gigabytes of data each per month: $30 per month.

I have a very strong T-Mobile signal in Linden, but weaker in some other areas such as when I drive towards Fenny and up 301. I have NO signal for much of the drive south via 510 and 470 over to Interstate 75 south.

Not sure where you live south of 44- but when I moved in a few months ago ‘The Villages’ and my sales rep - all told me the isp was Comcast / Xfinity—— I have had bad experiences with them... so I stopped by the Spectrum store on 466A - no wait - and so pleased to find out Spectrum was available - they didn’t have to run any wires or anything outside - they did something at the main box outside - took them a couple of minutes - then came inside tested my connections - and everything set up in less than 5 minutes! Running multiple devices - and happy (so far) with service.

Not true - Started using Spectrum in March 2020 in St Louis, when I purchased a new phone. Moved to FL in September 2020. Xfinity internet only, Roku TV, Spectrum phone.
