We plan to visit The Villages in July/August. We like to rent a car for part of the time while there, especially during visits by the grandchildren. When I inquired at Enterprise Rent-a-Car at Lake Sumter Landing, the prices were higher than I previously experienced. Can anyone recommend a cheaper option for a rental car during the summer in the area? Thanks in advance.

If you want to rent a car in The Villages your other option is Hertz but don't expect them to much different. You pay for convenience. You will find cheaper rates outside TV but then you will need to find transportation to and from their location. If you are a member of Sam's, BJ's, Costco's you can try their travel group, they provide significant savings on rental cars.

Hello-
To rent a vehicle for a month during summer, you are looking at about $850 a month which also coincides with high season at the parks thus vehicle are in high demand during the summer months in central Florida. Have you looked into the option of Uber for your rides and or Uber Eats for food. Also using a Golf Cart within The Villages is very doable. Good Luck

When I visit The Villages I usually fly into Orlando and rent from the various rental agencies at the airport since it appears to be less expensive and more convenient. If I drive to The Villages from my home state; I rent a car from my home state and get the unlimited mileage package

If you're planning on staying for two full months here in The Villages I would recommend that you buy yourself a modestly priced used car and then sell it at the end of your visit.
Stan's Used Cars in Leesburg often times buys Villagers' cars. Many are cream puffs that might be older models, but well taken care of.
In fact, why don't you peruse Talk of the Villages and you could likely buy one directly. Rental car prices are absolutely outrageous. Remember, you can get to The Villages from the airport very easily by shuttle for $19 each way. Then you'll have your two months with a car. Good luck with your visit.

Buy a car, get insurance, get it registered for 2 months then hope to find a buyer in 2 months? Id walk before I would think of trying that.

$19 each way ??? If you’re referring to Groome, that was a “promotional” rate which has been long gone .....

I just checked prices with Kayak, monthly rates are way lower than you were quoted. Check kayak.com, rent in Kissimmee.

You can check the various brands like Budget in Leesburg and Ocala however; finding a lower price is going to come with a downside, that's why we go with Enterprise in L. Sumter near our home. They bring the car to you on request, and we really dislike having to ask friends or neighbors to drive their car to a nearby town to pick us up when we return the car ! In other words, we are pretty much a captive constituency here ! Like so many things in the villages, internet, transportation to cruise terminals and airports, taxis and ubers, just not a lot of choices and no competition. Check out near by options on the internet and then compare with what it will cost to pick up and return the rental, we always check, but end of going with the option right here ! Tip, also make sure you check all your credit cards, credit unions, and your fraternal associations for discounts, even our university alumni offers us discounts on Hertz and Budget ! Another tip, since you chose July & Aug for a visit, you'll probably be using that car to get to the beaches many days, but the grands will love it and you'll escape the heat of inland Florida at that time of year, also use it to take them to NASA, ours never get tired of going there :clap2: Have fun !

Depending on the number of visitors a four person golf cart may be an option since you probably want a golf cart anyway. Golf carts should be plentiful during the summer. You can then rent a car on a daily or weekly basis , Hertz and Enterprise golf cart accessable. Also if your renting a Villa jockeying a car in and out can be a real pain.

Villa jockeying a car in and out can be a real pain.[/QUOTE] What? Most villa residents have two car’s carts, and motorcycle, some even add pickup. Course only the motorcycle and golf carts go In The garage. Rest are blocking streets and driveway’s. :icon_wink:

Plus sales tax, plates which are several hundred dollars, insurance, etc. and just hope that you can sell it before you leave. Not good advice, bite the bullet and rent a car.

I also need a car for 3 months (mid Sept - mid Dec 21).
Renting for 3 months is really very expensive.
@ optometrist60: If you would buy a car, I could buy it from you then.
Maybe there is someone on this forum who would buy it from me mid December?
