View Full Version : Pickleball restrictions?

The squares are open and crowded wit no restrictions so why when a 6 court facility of pickleball is full (24 players) must the waiting players (occasionally 6 to 10) go outside the fence and wait to come in. When the courts aren’t full (less than 24 inside) it’s ok to have people waiting inside? The rule was logical months ago but with entertainment open with no restrictions is the recreation department lagging on pulling these restrictions?

I haven’t seen that for awhile. Where are they still doing that?

I play all over the Villages and haven’t seen that. Sounds like a local rule and an “organizer’s” opinion of how it should be done.
Couple of suggestions: the 6-10 people being forced to wait outside the fence could just go inside as a group and present your argument or the fact that there is no such rule and it’s not done that way anywhere else...or just go to a different location if it’s not inconvenient. Courts are everywhere.

Whether they are right or wrong The Villages' needs to get a bit more consistent with their rules.

Rules are meant to be broken, laws are not.

I don't know about the Rec dept. but personally, I think that playing sports outside is radically different than watching entertainment at the squares. Given that only about 60% of TV Landers are fully vaccinated, when you play sports your respiration is high, so droplets are flying far distances - and you bang into each other. Most people at the squares are sitting and relaxing. That is MY reasoning. The Rec Dept may have some other ideas?

This "if you don't like it, move" attitude all over TOTV is one approach. I prefer the approach of working for positive change rather than quitting so easily or giving up.

If only 60% of Villagers, an area where 68 is the median age, are vaccinated it is nobody else's fault except the 40% who have not been vaccinated. Just get on the Publix portal on Monday and Friday and you will see that anybody can get a vaccine nearby if they want it. Most times they are still taking reservations into the afternoon and the portal opens at 7 and these available sites are in Sumter, Lake and Marion Counties. Therefore, if these people who have not gotten the vaccination when it is readily available get Covid, it is not my worry. So, open everything up, those who wanted the vaccination have apparently already gotten it, the rest are OK with the risk.

Sitting in one place for an extended period of time compared to playing a sport where you are only waiting in line for a short time and several feet away from others on the court. Can't tell which is the higher risk.

Just a question how do you know the percentage of residents that are vaccinated? I am guessing you must work for the government, and pretty high up to have numbers of residents, the non residents and visitors, that live here

Funny thing bout that theory when I’m in the courts I’m not that close to other people. The kitchen line is 7 foot so that’s 14 foot from people on opposite side of net. When I serving I’m at least 10 feet from my partner and side to side distance. Double pickleball Not that demanding of sport. Rarely see people banging into each other? And when they do it’s not face to face. Please explain how sweat contains virus?

It’s guess, or theory and if repeated enough it magically become truth:)

Uses the public data published by the state of Florida. You too can sound like you work for the government.
