Can anyone provide first-hand experience with this shelter in regard to their reputation of using the bulk of donated funds to provide for the care of their rescue pets? I am looking for a home for my stimulus check.
Thank you!

The Cat Crazy Villagers group works with the Humane Society on various rescue/adoption projects. You could check with one of the club's officers and ask about them. Email addresses are listed on their web site.
Cat Crazy Villagers - Cats Home Page (http://www.catcrazyvillagers.com/)
The CCV group also does fundraising for various pet-related causes. I'm sure they would be most appreciative of any donation you might want to make. Since we haven't been able to hold meetings for a year I'm sure their fundraising has suffered greatly.
Thanks for caring about our furry friends. :)

Very reputable shelter, I have been a donor for a few years now. As you probably know, it is a no kill shelter, and their staff is really dedicated. I visited and the attached picture happened, could not be happier! Actually, I mailed them a donation yesterday.

So with all the need of human beings due to the Corona virus, feeding and sheltering animals is the best way to donate during these times of human suffering?

Humans received a stimulus check. Animals did not. Put your money wherever you feel you need to.

We Fostered a Dog from here several years back. The people were wonderful. The Dog named Luca had so many problems that he ended up going back to them. We continue to go there from time to time and take a pup into the fenced-off play area and those dogs don't have a clue how much they do for humans.
I hope to get one from them to keep very soon.
These people deserve our support. They love those animals.

Some people are suffering but some are riding the unemployment wave and have good pensions and SSI benefits. Animals don't feel entitled.

100 percent of the monetary donations to Dachshund Rescue of North America go to pay for vetting or vet bills for foster dogs.

There’s always that one.... people are free to use their check in anyway they see fit...maybe they could go buy some air Jordan’s at the footlocker instead....I for one think it’s a wonderful idea...

The "Your Humane Society" (formerly known as the SPCA of Sumter County) in Lake Panasoffkee runs a fabulous animal shelter. I have also been donating there for years. Very caring people.

Thank you for your kind words! My husband and I have been volunteering for YHSSPCA, a no-kill shelter for the past 4 years and I know first hand of the caring and dedication of this organization! We, along with countless others, donate our time feeding, cleaning, socializing and caring for homeless animals as they wait for their forever home. This is from their website “ Founded in 1982, our non-profit charitable organization operates solely with contributions from individuals, businesses and foundations.” We rely on the generosity of the community to continue to serve!

One of the needs of human beings due to the Corona Virus is animal companionship. Animal shelters have been a God send for those in need.

Humans can help themselves. Often, animals are defenseless against what humans do to them.

How do you know this is the only charitable donation made to an animal welfare group? You should mind your own business.

Its not your money, therefore not your business where they choose to donate their money. They asked about an animal shelter, not your opinion about where they donate.
How about you donate your check or even some of your own money to the “needs of humans” as you say!!

We adopted a rescue greyhound into our family 8 years ago. He has brought so much joy into our life, we couldn’t think of life without him. I think it’s wonderful for you to donate and help all rescue animals waiting for their forever homes.
Thank you for thinking of them.

Care of the animals also includes heat/air conditioning, electric for lights, maintenance of systems. Above all, an adequately compensated staff with longevity is the best insurance for happy and cared for animals.

I have visited the shelter several times recently looking for a puppy. The care given to all of the animals is exceptional and
the shelter is kept clean (not like other shelters in another area of Florida). I observed a female caregiver calm down an old,
ferocious dog, who was obviously scared when we approached. She talked to him like an old friend... Since my visits I now
donate when I can.

They are 100% donations. No ties to city or county shelters. They do take pets from Sumter County Humane And another when room available. I volunteer there. No kill for 38 years. 5-6 dogs there long term. We give them extra love.

I can assure you from personal experience that the animal shelter in Lake Panasoffkee now using the d/b/a name of YOUR Humane Society SPCA (formerly known as the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc.) is an organization that will put your donation to the best possible use for the welfare of animals. I recently transitioned off the Board after six years (five of them as Chairman) due to term limits but continue to volunteer because of my love of animals and this organization in particular. I also managed the shelter on a daily basis for nine months while we were looking to hire a new Executive Director, so I am well-versed in how the shelter is run. Paid staff is minimal, hard-working and dedicated; they are supplemented by many volunteers. All Board members are unpaid volunteers. We have a Platinum rating on Guidestar. Here is the mission statement:
The mission of YOUR Humane Society SPCA is to protect animals. The mission is carried out through direct care for animals that are injured, abused, unwanted, or abandoned, securing homes for as many as possible; and through community assistance programs including spay/neuter services and pet food distribution as well as providing humane education and pet safety information to our community in order to reduce pet overpopulation and improve the quality of life for animals.
YOUR Humane Society SPCA would be very grateful for any donation you choose to make to help their lifesaving mission. Thank you.

I can’t say enough good things about them. I have adopted a dog from them and it was a great experience. The staff is dedicated and really care about the animals there.
I’m sure anything we can do to help them will be most appreciated.

On behalf of YOUR Humane Society SPCA, I want to say thank you for all the supportive comments from our community. Along with that, thank you for considering a monetary gift of your stimulus check to help ANY local non-profit. A gift to a nonprofit that is close to the donor's heart is always the most meaningful and helps strengthen their community. Every and any amount helps us continue our mission within our community.
As we have been reminded during this pandemic, the value of our pets in our stressful lives has been tremendous. Our two public assistance programs, the "Kibbles" free pet food pantry and "Big Fix" spay/neuter vouchers, help the pet owners by not having them surrender their family pets during times of financial hardship. So, in an indirect way, we do help people. These programs rely on monetary support. While we do need and appreciate in-kind donations such as blankets, leashes, cleaning supplies, etc., in general, monetary donations allow us the flexibility to use funds where most needed at the time such as surgeries, medical supplies, vehicle maintenance, phone/electric bill, etc. We welcome anyone to check in with us (352-793-9117 or via our FB page) on what may be our most current need before purchasing anything that we may already have in excess. Storage can also becomes an issue and food can spoil over time so we don't want anyone's gift to needlessly go to waste. We do share our surplus with other animal rescue organizations who may be running low and we offer pet supplies such as brushes, bowls, litterboxes, etc., to the "Kibbles" recipients who come to pick up their monthly food allotment if it helps them care for their pets, so it all will still help animals as the donor intended.
We welcome anyone to come for a visit and we would be happy to provide a tour to show any prospective donors how gifts are used. We do ask to schedule it so that we can keep the # of visitors at a safe level during the pandemic.
Thank you again for your kindness and I hope you're all staying well.

I would expect it is published information. My view charity, I would expect not more than 20% for salaries. The Clinton foundation. I was shocked to read 80% went to TRAVEL.
The number was spun. The proper title for that folder is TRAVEL AND ENTERTAINMENT.
When, I was in business and itemizing I was told anything over 20% would result in a full audit. Reality? Rumor? I don't know.

I can’t speak about finances but I can tell you they take good care of the animals. I have been volunteering there since last October. I was very impressed with their orientation for new volunteers and the free instruction they provide for those not very experienced. The animals are taken to the vet whenever needed, always have food and water in their cages and we clean their cages as necessary. They have a wonderful fenced in areas for animals and even a obstacle course which I enjoy with some dogs. Their office isn’t fancy so no money wasted there. And just finished building a new cat house and are working on an expanded kennel for new dogs. There is constant work on upgrading the areas for the animals which I know is costly. I think that would be a wonderful use of the money. I know the joy of comfort of a rescue dog myself.

Many more people donate to human charities so in my opinion any monies donated to animal charities especially local is well worth doing. So many people charities have such overhead that a great deal of money sent is used for administrative purposes.

Are you kidding? These poor neglected animals can’t ask for help and are suffering more now than ever because of Chinese virus. They need all the help they can get. God bless the poster for her kind heart to donate to the animals. Your thoughtfulness will come back to you a hundredfold!

I am a volunteer at this incredible no kill shelter and can assure you that every cent donated goes to support the animals and their care. This shelter does not receive any state or county funding and depends totally on donations and volunteers. Everyone there gives so much of their time energy and love to these poor homeless animals and they need every bit of money or donations to keep helping these animals who in turn bring so much comfort, companionship and love to the homes and families who adopt them. For many individuals, their beloved pets are their only companions who give them undying love and devotion every single day. We have so many wonderful dogs and cats there waiting for their furever homes and hoping for someone to give their love to. I can promise you that any donations made to this wonderful shelter will be more than gratefully received and used totally for the care of these abandoned animals and efforts to finding them loving homes. God bless and thank you for thinking of those who can't take care of themselves.
