Went there after golf today and was very disappointed with both the service and the food.
Cheeseburger was undercooked. Spoke to the Owner and he was not fazed at all.
When an Owner is not concerned about undercooked food being served than who is?
Best to stay away from there and get a great cheeseburger from the food truck at Edna’s!

We were at Sumter Landing this morning and walked past J.Rockets twice and both times the outer patio area was absolutely full with people waiting to sit and plenty of people inside.
If Edna's suits you better, eat there.

Edna's isn't at Sumter Landing. Why would someone wanting a good burger at Sumter Landing, go all the way to the other side of 44? They can find decent burgers right in Sumter Square that isn't Johnny Rocket's if that's their goal.

Even though I'm a huge Jersey Mike's fan, that's for Italian sub, when it comes to steaks, Johnny Rockets has the best Philly Cheese Steak with grilled onions. I got one two weeks ago and was excellent, and I never want a toasted bun for a cold cut sub, but their steak subs it makes a big difference. The service has always been slow and the place has bad acoustics, so hard on the ears. Since your at the square and there usually the band playing outside, it's gonna be loud one way or another. To go Edna's I have to drive 10 miles past my home. You could stop a Mallory CC or Havana and have a hamburger on the patio, way closer than below 44.

I like Gator's Dockside steak & cheese subs. Grilled onions, peppers and mushrooms, cheese (usually American but I prefer provolone), and I get it with lettuce, tomato, and a smidge of mayo.

Gator's Dockside at Brownwood is an OK steak sub, I had it once and I'd give it an 8 and Johnny Rockets is a 10. Never put lettuce, tomato and especially mayo on a steak sub, you're getting into Burger King territory.
I prefer to go Gator's Dockside for their wings. Weekdays unadvertised lunch special, six wings and fries $7.99 or 10 wings, fries, Blue Cheese plus drink for $10.99, add celery for 75 cents. Once I find a great steak sub, I don't go anywhere else. I've learned all the best places for everything I would want.

Actually, in Philly, a “cheesesteak hoagie” comes with mayo, lettuce and tomatoes.
Jersey Mikes is a solid Italian hoagie (unfortunately not golf cart accessible).

Difference between Philly Cheesesteak and Philly Cheesesteak Hoagie is the inclusion of Hoagie stuff on the Cheesesteak and both are provided at Geno's, Pats and maybe Jim's.

When I lived in Boston I got my steak and cheese sub from the sub shop downstairs (I lived in an apartment in a 3-floor walk-up next door to the fire department in Brighton). They ALWAYS made it with provolone, mushrooms and onions, lettuce, mayo, and tomato. It's just how it came, though you could always ask for it to be different if you wanted to.
Then when I moved back home to Connecticut we had D'Angelo's, and that was how they made THEIR steak and cheese subs - except their default was american cheese.
When I lived in Canada, there was a little sandwich shop in Sorrell I visited several times. Their steak-bombs always had lettuce, tomato, and mayo.
New York subs - lettuce, tomato, mayo.
Philly cheese-steak "hoagie" (which is another word for sub roll) - lettuce, mayo, tomato.
The original Philly cheese-steak is only attractive to people who want ONLY steak, cheese, and grilled onions dumped on a roll. For the rest of civilization, we get to include some vegetables with our meat.
YMMV
But yes I USUALLY go to Gator's for their boneless wings. I only order 6 but they always give me an extra or two. With blue cheese dressing, naturally. And the Gator's Own hot sauce of course. Not as good as Archie Moore's in Connecticut (you can buy their wing sauce in the supermarket up there now), but still tasty.

The only place I know of where you CANNOT get something with stuff added to it, is Louis Lunch in New Haven. Home of the very first hamburger in the USA, and they're still in business. They grind their own blend of beef fresh daily and are only open for lunch. They use cast-iron vertical grills, and they come only on toasted white bread. You can get it with or without cheese-wiz, onion, or tomato. No mustard, no pickle, no ketchup, no nothin. And if you ask for it with any of those things they yell at you. Best cheeseburger I've ever had.

Exactly. I havent been here yet but I always see the place packed so obviously not all burgers are undercooked. It happens. Sorry the manager didnt jump through hoops and give you a lifetime of free meals but he was probably thinking the same as most of us.....send it back for 3 minutes and we will fix it! Had two similar experiences there in the last month with visiting family. Facility was dirty (floors and rest rooms), food was mediocre, at best and the food portions were the smallest we’ve seen. Additionally, they were out of at least three items that are staples on the menu.
Love the concept of the traditional diner/shake shack but it will be a long time before we try this place again. Disappointing.

Got a great idea. The next time you go out and a have a really average dinner write a positive post about it. It seems to me there are a lot of people out there only write negative reviews which really hurt small businesses. I for one have eaten at Johnny Rockets a hundred times over the years and have never been disappointed. I really don’t expect to get a gourmet, grass fed prime burger there but as the saying goes, and I actually hate this expression, “it is what it is” and it always lives up to that.

Yes, undercooked food is an issue. My husband and I were there Saturday. We waited an hour and a half for our food. We were in a hurry to go nowhere....so, no problem. The manager said they are greatly understaffed. She has job posts out there. It she is not getting any hits. Blames it on the unemployment money being doled out which is probably more than what that job would pay. Sad.

THIS comment, plus others on this Thread, and other "restaurant issue" Threads... is the MAIN reason why I would never post a "restaurant issue" on ToTV. Because so many behind that keyboard will pick YOU clean for posting what you just did.
I would ONLY post a "restaurant issue" if a group of us went somewhere and someone died of food poisoning. Or the server swore and spit on us. Or there was a live spider in our burger.
Even THEN, I would think twice.
OMG folks...

We called in a lunch take out order there last week and were told to pick it up in 20-25 minutes. We showed up 30 minutes later, just to be sure the order would be ready, and they had not even begun to cook our meal yet. We walked out. Lesson learned, if you want a decent fast food burger in a reasonable time frame, go to Wendy’s.

Under cooked food? Obviously that means the burger was done just right. I can’t stand it when a restaurant decides to kill the meat twice. I’ll be going to Johnny Rockets for one of those good burgers thanks to your post! Burger done medium with lettuce tomato and mayonnaise thank you. 😛

Just go where you want...Geez stop with all the mindnumbing banter. Your preference for a burger or crab cake is "YOUR" decision, not anothers'. Personally, I've tried just about all the chessesteaks around TV and my favorite is at Firehouse Subs. Had a bad experience at Jonny Rocketts and I've never gone back. Square 1 has always been my favorite burger joint and I've never had a bad meal there in five years.

We recently visit Johnny Rockets & DDgolfer54 is exactly right it’s not the 50’s burger joint like it’s suppose to be. They keep doing what they’re doing, they’ll be the next one to close. Service & food quality is terrible. They have a prime location & management is screwing it up!

That wasn't a bash, it was just a concern, or warning. Sometimes these restaurants can be dark and you can't even see the meat color. Anyway, I don't eat burgers that much, but when I do, I certainly want it cooked to the point that I won't get sick from it..........right?

Are you sure it was the owner; could it possibly been the manager, just asking is all ? Of course this should not happen, can be dangerous and is the reason most restaurants will not prepare hamburger this way.... if you love rare burgers you have to grill your own at home. When we first experienced J. Rockets many years ago I remember it was a real treat. Not found in many locations and such good food and fun; a novel idea. We told all our friends 'if you ever get to ---- you HAVE to go to J.R.'s for such good ''malt shop' food and great fun. As the years went on I assume it was "franchised", and we have always found once that happens the consistency becomes sporadic. One manager may take the responsibilities of the job and quality of the food very seriously, while at another location the manager may "have no horse in the race", is barely paid more than the servers. I've found the same conditions at various Panera locations, some still have the original quality, service, and concern, for others it it simply a paycheck, and a very small one at that. I'd be interested if any on here have actually found an establishment improved once franchising goes "viral" (as the kids say, lol !). Another memory, the first Cracker Barrel was AWESOME. Found it on the drive to family in Florida. Must have been around 1970 while driving through Tennessee. The food, service, welcoming roaring fire, everything about this place was amazing... ah, time marches on. We gave up on all Johnny Rockets quite a few years ago now, Steak and Shake (thin burgers) is fading rapidly, not a big McDonald's fan but they have managed to at least keep the consistency from one location to another all these years ! That's amazing too, even if you don't care for their food. Oh, yes, Waffle House also has managed (for the most part) to keep the same food quality and the same (mostly) friendly smiles and service no matter which state you find yourself in...

Sorry, but the MANAGER IS acting on the OWNER'S behalf and if they let a complaint like this "slide", it's a reflection on the Owner as well. I would go somewhere else!!

Edna's not worth the wait in our opinion although the Appalachian salad is delicious. Stood in line for close to an hour last night, then out of hoagie buns, beans, tenders and more....so backed up with beeper orders that they totally ignored everyone in line for nearly an hour.....eat early at home, then go for the music !!!

Yes, it was the Owner.
He did give me a coupon card for a free burger.
Anyone who wants it let me know.
I’ll be happy to spring for the stamp and mail it to you!
Sorry I ruined the JR stock holders day. That’s the only reason anyone would defend that place.

I’m a huge burger fan. I don’t expect a lot of Johnny Rockets but if it was undercooked, why not take it back?
I’m on a quest for the best burger in TV but it’s tough! I have to laugh when people recommend Five Guys.
Sadly, the best burger in TV is no more since the Burger Station at Colony closed. Where are you Chef Don? We miss you (and your food)!

I think a lot of their business is visitors and residents who don't know better because they've never been there.

Buckeye I’m an Irish fan and in this case you my friend are right on the mark.
The only person to fix it before it goes under is the Owner and I just don’t see that happening.
Case Closed!

These are the same people who bash Publix or The Fresh Market and claim their less expensive food from Walmart is the same or better. Sometime I wonder why some people put junk into their mouths and wonder why they have heart issues or high cholesterol.

Actually, in Philly, a “cheesesteak hoagie” comes with mayo, lettuce and tomatoes.
Jersey Mikes is a solid Italian hoagie (unfortunately not golf cart accessible).
There is a Jersey Mikes at Rolling Acres Plaza (same plaza as Target). We went there all the time in a golf cart.

I live near brownwood - I don’t think the JM on 466A is golf cart accessible. I didn’t know about the one by SS.
I don't remember a Jersey Mike's near Sumter Landing but there is one near SPanish Springs.

They have been closed a few times by the health dept.

I love Johnny Rockets fish and chips. I’m disappointed that they don’t offer the unlimited fries anymore; I guess that’s because of new ownership. I also like that I can sit outside with my dog.
When they start cutting things like no more extra fries, 50 cents for extra sauce or pay extra for anything more than one packet of ketchup. You know they are on their way out.

Sad.
Yup, other establishments having unemployment issues too. I personally know people who don't need the unemployment money that are receiving it say "I'm not doing what everyone else isn't doing" as they enjoy a wonderful vacation.

Best hot dog I've ever had.

Except that Edna’s and j rockets re probably 45 to 60 min apart via golf cart 10-15 min in a C-A-R. Most people have them and there is no law in The Villages prohibiting their use. ;)

Jersey Mikes is a solid Italian hoagie (unfortunately not golf cart accessible). Sure it is. There is one in Lady Lake in front of Target. Golf cart ready (unless it recently closed up).

Have you never had a cheesesteak hoagie (no mayo, of course)? I'm originally, originally from the Philly area, and have had all sorts of Cheesesteaks (as you say, never with mayo, though). I love them all, if they're at least close to the real Philly Cheesesteak, and from regular to cheese steak hoagie, to Pizza cheesesteak with provolone and red sauce.
Dang! Now I'm hungry for a real Philly cheesesteak. I'll have to try one from Johnny's.

IGNORE THIS. I tried to delete it but it wouldn't delete. This was a reply for someone else.
I've never had it with mayo on a cheesesteak hoagie during my growing years in the Philly area, and no one ever asked me if I wanted it on it. Are you sure you weren't in New Jersey? ;-)

I've only eaten in Johnny Rocket's for breakfast before golf. Haven't had a bad meal or slow service yet. I'm only thankful for any breakfast places we have.
