Maybe she hasn't been there. I find it lovely. It isn't a denomination. It is good old fashioned Roman Catholic and I am proud to be one. So are many family members and many friends.

I was teasing her a little, get it??? St. Timothy???? Her name is IRISH GIRL??? I am allowed to invite and welcome people to my nice church. I am a person too.

Et cum spiritu tuo, Blueash.

Here is a little bit about the original St. Timothy. (St. just means "holy" or "blessed" or even just "loved".)

St. Timothy was a timid, affectionate young man, and a faithful follower of St. Paul. He is part of the early Church. We celebrate January 26 as his feast day.

Timothy was the son of a Greek father and a Jewish mother. His convert mother raised him as a Christian. Born in Lystra, in present day Turkey, he probably embraced the Christian faith during St. Paul’s first visit to Lystra. On a return trip in the year 50 A.D., Paul found Timothy so esteemed by the local Christians that he asked Timothy to join him in spreading the Gospel on his missionary journeys. He was consecrated a priest and eventually became the first Bishop of Ephesus, a thriving city of the Roman Empire. St. John Damascene, in 675 A.D. wrote that Sts. Timothy and John, the beloved disciple, were witnesses to Mary’s Assumption.

Timothy died a martyr in the year 97A.D. Because of his frail health he is the patron of those with stomach disorders. St. Paul writes, “Stop drinking water only; take a little wine for the good of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.” (I Timothy 5:23). St. Timothy is the co-writer of Thessalonians, 2 Corinthians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon.

The Village Church is a newly started nondenominational church that is growing quickly! They meet at Mystic Ice Cream on Sunday mornings (usually at 10am) today (Easter) at 9 or 10:30 am.

You are most welcome to attend any time! There are various groups to fellowship with throughout the week as well.

Praying you soon find a church home🙂

Hey Irishgirl, if you're still here...do you mean nondenominational Christian or do you mean nondenominational more broadly?

I believe many of the preceding posts are recommending nondenominational Christian, but if you're looking for a place that gathers people from all faiths or welcomes people who are "spiritual" and follow no one organized religion or movement, those would be Unity, Unitarian Universalist, Divine Science and Centers for Spiritual Living, that I know of. There may be others.

If you want a church that’s REALLY nondenominational - Unitarian Universalist (UU) is your best bet. Community-oriented, progressive, AND spiritually focused,

The closet to TV is TRIUU at 7280 SE 135th St, Summerfield, FL 34491. Their website Tri-County Unitarian Universalists | Summerfield FL (http://www.triuu.org.)

Although check here if you are more southerly in TV. Find a Unitarian Universalist Congregation | UUA.org (http://www.uua.org/find)

I am not Catholic, but my family members who are Catholic would see no need for anyone to declare the Catholic church to NOT be a denomination for this reason:

In the Christian Greek Scriptures ("New" Testament), Acts Chapter 15 identifies Jerusalem as the "headquarters" (as it were) where Jesus' Apostles and other mature Christians would be contacted for decision-making affecting all the congregations (in this case, the circumcision issue). Years later, after the Apostles had all perished, various circumstances led to Constantine's attempt to establish Christianity in Rome as a uniting force (with various councils meeting to agree upon what would become official doctrines and creeds of the church that would be referred to as "Catholic" (which translates to "respect of the whole" or "universal")).
Because between the time period of the former and the latter, there is no record of a large and dominant Christian organization, the Church as it was set up in Rome is viewed by the Catholics in my family to be directly descended from the original practice of Christianity as recorded in the four Gospel accounts and further organized into congregations throughout the region after Jesus' sacrificial death and resurrection as shown in the various New Testament epistles. They therefore view it as the original Church, which would make it NOT a denomination, so there would be no need to have that declared by anyone. Only those who do not believe it to be the original Church would refer to it as a "denomination."
While I personally believe that substantive changes took place between what was established in Jerusalem and what was established in Rome, I admire Gracie Girl for sharing and defending her faith (shown to be a Christian practice throughout the New Testament) while avoiding participation in dialogue that could turn argumentative and subject this thread to a quick dele.

I am a Catholic but I have joyfully attended services in many denominations over the years including Jewish. I found God in all of them, and in the faces of the people who attended.

Every time I read that someone is looking for a church, I suggest mine. Mine sometimes has wonderful musical events, but maybe not during Mass. (service). Mine sometimes has fun food gatherings and has social clubs but mostly Catholics do not socialize quite as much as many other Christian denominations. It is just a habit. You will find those folks to be just as warm and/or ornery and good and bad as any other bunch of folks in any other church building. I love my church, and there is nothing wrong with any of your wonderful churches.

I grew up in a Methodist Parsonage as our father was a Methodist Preacher for nearly 60 years. It started out in the poor Coal towns of Western Pennsylvania and ended up at one of the largest Methodist Churches in North Carolina. We were taught that every person should chose their churches as they grew up and not just because they were born into that religion. In one city we lived in my father would, once a year trade pulpits with the local black church and also include the exchanging of Choirs. That way we could also learn and appreciate and understand other congregations. We learned to accept all people into our lives whether and regardless of their ethnic background or color, etc. I would submit what church you attend is of less importance than your personal commitment to the many great teaching of the many different religions. Sometimes I think it is best to just pull into the first church you run into, park and attend their service. Its a way of removing bias and extending knowledge.:ho:

Does anyone recommend a non-denominational church? My wife and I have been attending New Life Christian Church and have found it to be "right on" Biblically since starting to attend about 4 weeks ago. They have BOTH an excellent women and men's ministries, along with Adult Sunday School (between the 1st and 2nd service). People have been extremely welcoming and you definitely feel the Holy Spirit's presence when entering the building and listening to Matt's message and insight. Would encourage you to "check it out" next Sunday morning at 8:30.

Here is an excellent description of the non-denominational spiritual philosophy I follow. Not sure if the OP was looking for this or non-denominational "Christian," which, by definition, would be less broad-based. If the former, as I mentioned earlier, Unity in Fruitland Park follows this discipline.

Thank you ! Nice to have some dialogue of value on here, not just senseless arguments and one "upsmanship" remarks. I tend to also believe your reference about the substantive changes probably having taken place from the Jerusalem roots and Rome since the Roman Empire's domination of the known "western" world really sealed the intersection of religion and politics ! Thanks again.:)

There is a religion which is "Interfaith". It is truly a non-denominational faith option. It is quite unique as that it does not have a "central denominational authority", e.g Catholics, Methodist's, Baptist's, etc. The church is totally autonomous and stand alone. At one of their services you may see people who are in every religion or none, including a Minister or Priest etc. I am not sure if there are any in or near The Villages? I was invited to one of their services in New York City and it was truly inspirational. As an example a person who believes in a "higher power" but does not relate to an Organized Church may attend their service. Just another option to non denominational.:ho:
