Your first option should be to check with the company who insures your car and home. Price wise all policies are similar. If you have multiple policies with the same company, there are usually multi line discounts available which will reduce the premium.

On the other hand, I've been told by some that it might be a good idea to get golf cart insurance from a different company than the one you have for house/car insurance. I think that the idea is that a golf cart claim won't count against your home/car insurance that way.

Accordingly, if you have two cars, a house, boat, golf cart, etc. are you supposed to insure them all with different companies in case you have a claim on one of them?

Most companies sur charge policies based upon the vehicle involved. If you get in a chargable accident with your Honda Accord, that policy gets surcharged, not all the household policies.

Best bet is to have a knowledgeable agent and check there first. Then decide if you need to look to other carriers.

Not much cost difference between golf cart insurance carriers. About $75/yr - not worth doing much shopping around.

& their quote was outrageous. That's why I'm asking about other companies.

It also depends if it is a street legal or LSV. If street legal then needs auto insurance and licensing with the state. If just a golf cart can be added to your home owners for very little.

Villages Insurance in Colonial Plaza got me a separate policy for the cart (not LSV). Only $60 per year. They also got us a home policy. A very painless transaction.

Got our Golf Cart insurance from AAA in La Plaza Grande.

Also have Home and Auto from them - they sold us three different insurance companies none of which is AAA.

(we have been with AAA in California for nearly 30 years).

I am getting high quotes from different companies ($150 to 220). They tell me it is because of the year and what I paid for the unit.

USAA attaches the golf cart to your car insurance policy. GEICO attaches it to your home owners insurance. (and guess which companies we use for which asset).

Ended up with AllState. The local agent also understood what a golf cart is used for in TV. Both GEICO and USAA seemed confused when I tried to explain that I have a "golf cart", not an LSV and that it can be driven on most streets in TV.

Check the coverages and make sure it isn't for off road use only. If it says off road use, which is where most insurance companies expect golf carts to be used, your coverage ends at the end of your driveway.

older carts are cheaper just like older cars. Our new cart cost us about $150.00 for a separate policy.

I tried to contact Foremost and was unable to connect. Ivanhoe, do you have a contact person and phone number? Thanks.

The FOREMOST Policy which is issued by The Vilages Insurance Co is an OFF ROAD POLICY...with a specific Golf Cart endorsement and OFF ROAD is Defined as Self Propelled Motorized Vehicle which is designated primarily for off-road use and Not licensed for use on public roads. This would fit the definition of most golf carts used here in the Villages AND not simply on Golf Cart Paths

Progressive--we have our car and golf cart insured by them--great price--$125.00 per year--by the way every one should have golf cart insurance Why Florida doesn't require it is beyond belief!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do not just attach the cart to your homeowners policy. The exact words of a AAA agent (who did not sell us anything) were: "If you have a claim on your homeowners' policy because of the cart, the insurer could cancel your homeowner policy, and good homeowner insurance is getting very hard to get in FL".

Get the separate golf cart policy thru The Villages Insurance, insurer = Foremost. They know the unique type of golf cart usage there is in TV.

Allstate on 466 said the same, a Separate policy is needed for TV use. Quoted around $85 for used, $125 for new.

Remember, rates are determined by coverage amounts and the year of the cart. I've been covered by State Farm for the last 3 years with less than a$10 increase over the past 3 years. Yes, do keep the cart policy separate from home owners and/or your auto policy!
