I am really wanting to move as soon as my husband can move but I may still need to work. 36 years of being an RN is different settings. Last 15 in Labor and delivery. Please respond!

LPN 1982 to 1992, RN then to now. Last 20 with HIV, specifically last 9 in Infectious Disease. I might go back to work in home care but am definitely looking forward to doing my own thing for a while. I applied for my FL license, what an out of pocket expense that was! I'm an ACRN (AIDS Certified Registered Nurse) and still had to pay for that dang stupid HIV exam when I have to pay $70/yr for my ACRN dues and every 4 y accreditation! I haven't heard if I got accepted or not. They are scrutinizing my application for some health problems I had 2 years ago and have been cleared of for 1 year. It looks like there will be lots of options available for work. I can't wait to get there...eta 10/1/10!!!

I work as an RN (supervisor) at TVRH. We are always looking for experienced RNs. They do not have a maternity or pediatric ward (the "sister" hospital in Leesburg does). I started work here this summer, after making the move here full time and love it- the people I work with are fabulous! Good luck in your job hunts- central Florida needs lots of nurses!

Hi Colleen,
I'll be there in 2012 - By then I'll have 3 years as an RN under my belt. Looking forward to the new challenge. I've been in touch with a nurse recruiter at TVRH (Tina).
Any idea as to pay rates for a 3 year RN? I know it's not Boston money but I was just curious. PM me if you'd rather.

I moved down here over a year ago and have had a difficult time finding a job. I have 26 years experience as an RN in hospital, dr office, insurance, nursing homes, teaching cardiac rehab, case management, diabetic education etc. My trouble is that I need medical benefits which limits the choices. I tried HHC but was so exhausted from the driving, paperwork and heat, I couldn't enjoy the patients. Would love to work @ TVRH or LRMC even in a lesser capacity than RN, but I can't even get an interview. Any suggestions on how to get thru the door?

That's kind of weird. They have so many full-time full benefits openings.
I've spoken with two nurse recruiters who told me that it should be no problem finding a full time spot when the time comes for me. Heck they plan to open a new hospital near Brownwood in about 2 years. That should yield hundreds of new openings.
Is there something unique about your resume? You now have me a little scared about my options.

How about LPNs as well? - what does that avenue of employment look like around TV? -- I have years of technical operations experience in NY, but I don't see much need around TV -- thinking of putting 2 years in for an LPN degree and signing on for the life down there ! What do you think?

My last job up north was 7yrs at an insurance company and I think they think I am not up to date on my experience. I held a position that reviewed all hospitalizations for 30+ hospitals. Yes, there are several positions posted, but unless you want full time in ER or ICU they are only posted positions, not real openings. Believe me I have called and they are only hiring full time. I am at the end of my career (5-7 yrs to go) and do not want the intensity or hours I may have thrived on when I was younger.

Ok thanks. I'm looking full-time only so it should work out. Heck, they always need more testosterone at those nurses stations:)

I would really like to know about the computer charting they use at The Villages Regional Hospital. Ours is always changing. We are using Meditech. Nurse to patient ratio. Other opportunities in the Villages. Thanks so much. And thank you for your time and interest.

I work up North as an RN at a huge Cardiology office- 25 docs many many locations- but I work part time as a phone nurse currently -for the past 2 years. Before that I was 10 years at an OB/gyn office. Any idea if I could get a job there? Although, not sure, I would want to work, but need to keep the options open depending on when we can move.

I know that as of my last visit they were also using Meditech.

I would teach as an adjunct in the North for the fall semester, and in the South for the spring semester! I am not too worried (although maybe that is naive?). There must be some need for an experienced nurse with an MSN. I know there are several nursing programs in the area, and they all advertise for adjuncts on their website. Our target date keeps shifting, either 12/11 or 12/12! Glad to hear from other nurses! We use Meditech up North also.

Hi,
We just moved here, and since I have retired from Nursing, I don't know of any jobs, but if anyone want to start a nurse club (or if there is already one), I would like to join. I have been off work for about 7 years with fibromyalgia and a paralyzed diaphragm on the left side-pulmonary function tests show breathing about 47%. But I worked in a Level 1 Trauma Center for 20 in the Emergency Department. I also was a flight nurse for several years with our hospital helicopter. I left the ED and went to Endoscopy to be a conscious sedation nurse. Everyone loved the sedation nurse!!! :) I also worked as a preceptor in the ED, and then worked in Ambulatory Surgery as the educator before having to stop working. I had an identity problem when I had to leave work-I had always been a nurse. My husband called me a "SAKIAN" (smart as* know it all nurse) I am curious to know if anyone who has left nursing had a similiar reaction about leaving.

Hi all,
Nurse practitioner here (13 years, RN in ER, ICU, oncology for many years prior). Husband is an RN as well. We'll be visiting TV in Feb. for the first time. Since we won't be retiring for a few years (sadly!), we're both interested in looking for positions in the TV/area and possibly moving down earlier than we had originally anticipated. I'm an oncology NP. My husband was a cardiac nurse for several years but currently works in radiology. I'm getting mixed signals from the forum - some saying there are many open positions, others saying they are having difficulty getting an interview. Anyone know about NP positions in the area?

Has anyone gotten a job at the hospitals before moving to TV? -- As in stating on your resume "relocating to The Villages" or telling them you're relocating? --- and I'm curious as to why there are so many RN positions on the Leesburg Regional Medical Center website. There are always a bunch of openings for RNs.
