I got in an early bike ride. And I'm about to do some reading. Then I'll strum my guitar for a while. After that the Masters...and a little bit of the Tampa Bay Rays also to please my wife. :)
Nice rainy day.

I'm starting another NPC now - and I'm using one of you as inspiration! She will be: Lady Gracegerla Jal, grand-niece of Lord Octavius Jal. The attenuated russet-haired woman. Devoted member of the city nobility, shrewd defender of her family. Always has a kind word for everyone, especially to adversaries, mostly to put them off guard. All of that is the "inspired" part. The rest (her description, various personality quirks, ticks, habits) will be more game-specific since this is a post-apocalyptic fantasy world setting and not real life.

I don’t know what that means. NPCs? MUD?
Sounds like your day is more interesting than mine, whatever it is you’re doing!

A MUD is an acronym for "Multi-User Dungen" [sic].
I don't know if you remember the old computer text games like Adventure, or Zork. But a MUD is a descendant of that. The first MUDs were created in the late 1980's. ArmageddonMUD (the one I staff for) was created in the 1990's. The longest-running RPI (roleplay intensive) MUD on the internet.
The games are 100% text-based, no graphics. They're interactive and have players from all over the world playing them, with all kinds of different themes and styles, and created from a host of different codebases. I started as a player, then became a builder (someone who writes up the room descriptions, the NPCs (non-player characters, sometimes known as mobs)), various items, etc. And then I was promoted to storyteller. I do mostly my own building, but I also help with players who want intervention for various plotlines, or help guide existing plotlines toward an end that fits with the game world. I can create an NPC (in this case, the noble woman), and then animate her to interact with characters played by the players. In this case, the the people in her clan who want to do some kind of thing, and want to know what "the seniors" think about the idea.
It's all live-action, runs 24/7. All the roleplay is spontaneous.
Game play is pretty simple: you create a character with a name, general description, basic background, "short" description (such as the red-headed young man), and enter the game. Your character becomes a living breathing entity, and you want to achieve whatever goals they might have (survival is a given). Maybe he's a dwarf whose focus is to make the most admired sculpture in the world. Or maybe they're a greedy ne'r-do-well half-elf who wants to kill off the elves who live on the other side of the slums, and take over their territory. Or a desert elf who wants to support their tribe by hunting and bringing home hides for the crafters to make their armor. Or maybe you want to play a noble who needs to balance her own status in her Noble House, with the interests of the city, while at the same time keeping the competition at bay. Tons of politics.
This particular game's "theme" is a sort of hybrid of Frank Herbert's Dune series meets a certain Dungeons & Dragons campaign known as Dark Sun. It can get pretty intense and is definitely a niche hobby. But I've been playing these games since the 1990's and this game since 2002.
So this is what I do when I'm not running around at the archery range, or walking, riding my bicycle, gardening, cooking, shopping, dancing, or visiting friends/family.

Swam a mile and a half this morning and this afternoon installed a new dishwasher while watching the masters. Dishwasher done and running and now enjoying a cold beer while watching more of the Masters. I am rooting for the kid, Will Zalatoris.

Reminded DH to put the cars out for car wash in the rain. Gave in and am watching "Saving Private Ryan," since Netflix will send it off at the end of April. Taking an intermission to make a chicken pot pie. Have not looked forward to seeing it again but this time I am appreciating it more than when it was in the theaters. Knew I had to give in because he sat with me throughout all the seasons of "Call the Midwife."

A week ago I started teaching myself to play the ukulele after teaching myself the kalimba a few months ago. Hubs is waiting on some tax stuff from me so I told myself I can't practice until I get him the tax documentation he needs. UGH.

We managed to get almost two hours of pickleball in before the rain; left the courts in thunder and got home ten minutes before the deluge. Ran around hiding newly planted containers from the rain and enjoyed the rest of the dark, stormy day taking care of indoor chores and keeping the dog calm.

Thanks! It's a great outlet for anyone with an overactive imagination! The game's slogan is "Murder, Corruption, Betrayal." As a player, I get to get involved in city politics, manipulate the people who make the decisions (or be manipulated by others), arrange for the higher-ups to be assassinated so I can take their place (or place someone I prefer to have in that position). Sometimes though I just want to kill critters with a bone sword, so I play one of those types instead.

No way. I don't have to whine about how something is unfair. In the game, it IS unfair, and that's just how it is. You get three options: you can complain and be killed for daring to criticize the evil overlords. You can suck it up and accept that you're a lowly commoner who exists because the evil overlords haven't found any reason to destroy you yet. Or you can conspire to and succeed in destroying the evil overlords, replace them, and make new rules.
No one gets a vote. There's no democracy. There's the sorcerer-king, his minions, their minions, and everyone else.
I'll be doing more of it today!
