View Full Version : Evans Prairie - Being in fairway is a penalty

Hit an occasional nice ball on tee in the fairway and it is a penalty. Either hitting off of dirt or virtually green dirt as there is no grass. Fairways are scalped throughout The Villages. Shame is that Evans Prairie has a nice track, with a lot of attractive and challenging holes, nice greens but bald fairways take away from a good experience. The couple of extra yards are not worth anything when it is extremly difficult to ever use a fairway wood off of fairway that is like hitting off the parking lot.

Agreed, and although I understand the course gets lots of play and is dealing with twice the cart traffic now, I surely wish they would do something to alleviate the rock hard conditions. My elbow is trashed. Slotting, punching, something. Many moons ago, they overseeded everything with annual rye but then told us that was not good for the bermuda. Baloney. Augusta does it. They continue to charge more and deliver course conditions that are below an average muni course. If the demand continues, I see nothing changing, but they could try a little harder. A couple weeks ago, the greens at Belle Glade were cut unevenly because the guy doing it did not bother to take one last circular cut around the perimeter. Pure laziness. Cups are never cut correctly. A good superintendent would not tolerate that, but then again, as long as the cash continues to flow, nothing will change.

I played EP twice this week - I thought the fairways were in decent shape, not great.

I agree, the superintendents could do a better job. The courses should be pristine.

I have played EP multiple times in last 3 weeks and again yesterday. Didn’t think conditions were that bad.

I'm not a golfer......never played.
But if I did, and I was passionate about the game, I would complain about the bad course conditions. And if that didn't work, I'd attempt to get a good boycott going and maybe it would improve. Then again........Wishful thinking?

The fairways are in great shape relative to the January conditions and they will continue to improve now that the growing season is upon us.

I have played the champion golf courses in TV for 12 years and witnessed the gradual degradation of conditions. The courses are now maintained at the minimum level necessary to get players to come back.

Take your money and play outside The Villages, then you will see some really rough conditions. Haven’t played an off site course that meets The Villages

You must not play very many courses outside The Villages. Run over to Eagle Ridge at Del Webb. $35 and the conditions are as good as Most in The Villages. Royal Oak in Ocala, $42, and good as any in the Villages. You need to get out more. Oh and Ocala National was $40 and close to the Villages as well.
