First, we just bought a home this week in The Villages! Pretty excited about that! Secondly, the Sales Agent invited us out to Lopez CC for dinner and we were wondering about dress code. Shorts and golf shirt ok? More dressy casual? Thanks for any help!

Casual Golf attire is ok.

County Clubs here are Restaurants with a pro shop attached. Often have live music in there afternoon. Very nice.

Just me but unless I just finished playing golf, I wear everyday casual, no matter where I go. But that just an upbringing one has to deal with. Kind of wearing a tie to church and funeral, and women never in pants to either.

Avoid tee shirts and tights ladies...please avoid those...they're actually not supposed to be worn on the golf courses, but I see more and more people wearing both...

If you meet the golfing dress code than you can dine in the same clothes. Check out the golfing dress cod in the golf the villages website. As a guy, I feel discriminated against since women are allowed to golf in sleeveless shirts as long as they have two inch shoulder straps and the shirt covers their belly.

Tights, that an article I have seen little girls wear under Easter or Christmas dresses for a photo. The see thru or slightly opaque in adults is usually worn under a dress, or sometimes stylish pants. I have seen a few wool tights, but the temp needs to be in the 30s.
In 14 years, I am glad I have never seen a infant or a teen, much less a 60yo wearing just tights. Pretty sure pictures of the exposure would be everywhere

I only have t-shirts and shorts in Florida so no matter where I go, that is what I wear. It is very nice of them to take you out, enjoy.

I agree, I've even seen women on our golf courses playing with "wife beater t-shirt" on.
- Seems they stricter with men's attire -

They've changed that rule.:ohdear::ohdear: Kids were not even allowed to wear t-shirts.
Now you see lots of people wearing t-shirts on the driving ranges, especially at Sarasota.

Sarasota is a "practice facility" not a "country club". The driving ranges are a little more "relaxed". Proper dress is required on the practice greens, at the Country Clubs, and we are supposed to "diplomatically" mention such

As long as you have a collared shirt, any kind of shorts and pants are acceptable as long as they’re not raggedy. The original owner of the villages, Harold Schwartz, went to play golf in jeans. The starter didn’t know who he was and told him he couldn’t play in jeans. That rule changed very quickly.

Pretty much anything goes. I have seen it all. For example: I have been at Palmer CC on Christmas Eve - smartly dressed for the occasion - and while seated at one of the scenic tables in the bar, men in t-shirts, gym shorts, and flip flops were wandering around the area. I thought this was disrespectful, but no body else seemed to care.

Thank you! We appreciate a dress code. Don’t need “formal wear” but a collared shirt & decent shorts/capris (not jeans, torn pants or too short shorts) are nice pretty much anywhere here.

It does seem to be getting sloppy in some situations in The Villages. Guess I am old-fashioned. LOL

Collared shirts are required on the golf courses and practice areas. I've eaten at Lopez several times in a tee shirt.

You'll find the The Villages tends to be very casual.

I often wear a sport coat when I eat at one. If you eat indoors, the air conditioning may be set pretty low, and you may be glad you have one. I figure it’s easier to take one off than to conjure one out of mid-air. Havana country club often has free music and is extremely crowded, but I don’t like the music and it’s too loud to hear people speak during dinner.

I think smart casual would be most appropriate for going to a nice restaurant like Lopez CC. The level of dress has steadily declined over the decades. A photograph that sticks in my mind show men in suits and hats and women in dresses lining up to see a movie in downtown Houston in the 1930's or 40's.

Now we mostly dress like slobs.

Dressing up a little for dinner at Lopez would be a fitting start for life in The Villages.

It is probably an age difference level of acceptance, however, I am not comfortable or appreciative of comments like wife-beating T shirts. Nor would I respect something like I Kick my husband’s ass T shirts either. So I am not biased on this topic.

I wore a uniform for 20 years in the Army and a suit and tie in my work after the Army for close to 30 years. I will dress up a bit for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas but the rest of the time it is shorts and a T shirt or a shirt with collar for more than casual dining.

I wear green and gold tartan long pajama bottoms and a lovely polo shirt I bought white, cropped the bottom to show off my perfect bellybutton, and then tie-dyed the shirt in day-glo hues. It all coordinates perfectly with the purple golf shoes that I drew smiley faces on in bold yellow, and rainbow glitter shoelaces.

I would love to see ALL men in colored shirts and pants (no shorts). But that's just me getting tired of seeing men's ugly legs in nice places such as Lopez🥴 Personally, I love to be dressed nicely at all times, but everybody does just about anything they want around here. Which is also a nice thing❣️🤗

I have been in Florida for off in on for 30 years but it doesn’t matter wherevI’m living I never wear shorts at night even when I lived at the beach I were slacks or jeans ( skinny ones)always with shoes or short boots , Ive always done this and I’ve lived in some of the hottest countries on earth. Look I know I’m a clothes guy Amani, Hugo Boss but gentleman some of you at least could put on a fresh pair of shorts at night and believe me looking at your upper thigh while your sitting in a booth is not a pleasant site . I’m 82 I’ll keep my standards high soon back to high end stores in Orlando a year without shoppers is a very bleak year

My kids would not let me out of the house if my shorts did not reach my knees. I hate spending money on clothes so most shorts come from kohl’s, target or Sears in their day. All t shirts are from sport teams, campground, grandkids, Aruba etc. I have 1 pair of jeans if it gets cold and no other long pants. A restaurant either wants my money or they don’t.

You remind me. Long ago I went to go running in cold weather in upstate NY. I had on cross-country ski tights and a running jacket, both in matching bright turquoise, electric blue, yellow and black. My teenage daughter came out of her room, saw me, screamed and almost fainted. She said, "Dad, you can't go outside like that!!" and then "Mom, you have to stop Dad from running outside!!"
So I said, "I'm not only running in this but I'm going to say to everyone I meet "Hi! I'm Kristen's Dad!".
And now she's the mom of teenagers that she can embarrass.

It's not really a club. That's TV's marketing. It has no initiation fees, no dues, no waiting list, no members, unless you consider having a home in TV as being a member. You don't need a sponsor to join; there is no joining. And no dress code.

But if your sales agent is taking you out to dinner, it might be nice to go casual-dressy.

Have fun! And welcome to The Villages.
