I plan to purchase a new vehicle in December and will be doing as much research on the internet as I can, before test driving the five vehicles that are current potentials. I'm aware of Edmunds, Motor Trend, and Consumer Reports. Are there other websites you recommend for researching new car purchases?

Thanks is advance!

Do yourself a favor and test drive American cars built by real American workers. Keep the people of Americia working and keep the profits in the states instead of going overseas!:BigApplause:

Kelly Blue Book is also a good source of reviews and cost and feature analysis. The site is www.kbb.com

How about the Talk of The Villages web site and reviews from fellow Villager's. :024: We just bought a new GMC Terrain and love it. Had a 2008 Acadia which was also great but was too big for just the two of us and of course when there was a gang guess who's car we used:p. We've had the Terrain for the last 6 months and love it. 4 cyl. with pep, 25 mpg average, plenty of room and we get many compliments from other car owner's. $30,000 with lots of whistles and bells.

Don't overlook Carmax (carmax.com) Let someone take the hit on the value of a new car. Our Lexus had 5,000 on the odo and we bought it for the price of a Chevy.

I love my Toyota Tundra. If you'll settle for a truck.

But if you're looking for something more practical here's a good used number that you can pick up fairly cheep.

Was, buy used. Let someone else take the 20% hit as soon as it hits the tar.
Buy a 2 year old vehicle with less than 20,000 probably a lease return (see someplace like Enterprise) Get an extended warranty and save a bunch.:BigApplause:

THANKS for the responses. I'm going to stick with buying new since I keep my cars for a long time. I'll be getting rid of a 1996 Toyota Avalon which I purchased new. Still love it, including the styling and color. It still looks great. But it's been needing some costly repairs these past couple years. IF I only kept a vehicle for a few years, I'd consider a one or two year old used. But, not the case. I can tell you with certainty, I won't be buying another Toyota, for obvious reasons.

I'd LOVE to buy American this time out. But, it will depend on what my research finds re: reliability, overall costs of ownership, and on comfort. My hard earned pension income considerations and overall vehicle reliability will take priority over strictly buying American. If a foreign vehicle beats American, so be it.

I am curious, however, on what your thoughts are on purchasing a foreign make vehicle that is made by American labor? I'm thinking about a Kia or Hyundai which is made in Georgia (I forget which model). Would that satisfy your desires for "American made"?

Talk Host, a bit large for my desires/needs. I plan to purchase a Crossover or SUV this time around. Besides not wanting Toyota (due to their technical problems and lying about those issues), I also rule out Jeep. I had a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee which I loved, excepting it had a lemon transmission. Those problems led me to Toyota which, at the time, were far superior to any other vehicle regards reliability (but that was in 1996).

Many of the Japanese models are made by Americans right here in the good old USA while some of the American car makers make theirs in Canada using good old Canadian workers. I wonder how many people think they are supporting American eorkers when in fact they are not.

Good question. Guess that's one I'll add to my research. Perhaps Googling "where is xxx (make/model) made" will give me the answer. Definitely one question I'll add in my research!

O.K. maybe the Terrain is made in Canada but I think they have a rule that they all have to speak fluent English.:1rotfl:

Afraid not - Canada is a bilingual country - French and English.

Yup, it's really hard to tell these days. A lot of vehicles are made in Mexico too. The new Buick Regal will be made in Germany for a year or two.

I saw in the news recently that the car with the highest content of U.S. made parts is the Toyota Camry. Ford had three models at the top of the list for the lowest % of American made parts.

No wonder the gas pedals stick!

It used to happen in my old '62 Plymouth but nobody made a stink about it.
