Moved to Marsh Bend nine months ago. I didn't think about it much when I moved in but have started to question why Marsh Bend does not have an "adult only" pool. I realize Everglades sport pool is an adult pool, however open times are restricted to a few slots each day. I contacted the recreation department to question why our "postal station" pool is not an "adult only" pool and could that status be changed. I was surprised that the head of the rec department called me but as in my past experience with him, he was curt, autocratic and talked down to me, (needs a seminar in diplomacy) replying that the pool status could not be legally changed. The term "legally" was used several times during the conversation so I expect that may be why he called me. He told me there are other adult only pools in my area, however I found they are about four miles away by golf cart. No explanation was offered as to why it was set up as a family pool. I wonder if Harold Schwartz would have approved of the "if you don't like it ... too bad" tone and posture of the recreation department. So..........anyone else out there know why Marsh Bend postal station pool is not adult only?

Probably because the "Marsh Bend postal station" does not exist.
It is like asking how many cherubim can dance on the head of a pin.

There are probably just as many Marsh Bend residents that like having the family pool as there are that do not like having it so it will most likely never be changed. There must be a demand for neighborhoods with family pools as they have built several of them south of 44 in neighborhoods not having adult pools. In Fenney there are all 3 pools, family, adult, and sport, all of which are well used.

Considering how few kids we ever see at family pools what is the big deal?
And the ones we have seen including our grandkids have been well behaved.

Things aren't changed here because of complaints. Thank Goodness. I think the person who spoke to you was telling you something you didn't want to hear. It is what it is. Some things are close and some things are a little way off. In any neighborhood.

Was it an adult only pool when you bought your house? Did you know the only adult pool was 4 miles away?
No....you knew everything you’re com-aligning about when you bought

Family pools are too shallow for adults. Strange to cater to kids in a 55 community. Separate kiddie pools next to adult pools would be better.

Both Marsh Bend and DeLuna seem to deviate from 'the standard' that has been in the villages. Marsh Bend postal station is actually at the Softball fields and no pool at that location. The Cattail postal station serves both Marsh Bend and DeLuna and has the pool. DeLuna has no postal station and no pool of any type, But it does have Water Lily Rec Center within its perimeter.

They did experiment with some different things in that village.
I thought Waterlilly was being relabeled ad an Adult pool?
Adult pool and additional mail station is planned in the adjacent construction underway.

I try to avoid going to family pools not because the kids are not well behaved but I just get out and leave when mom brings a young one in diapers in the pool. If the child isn’t potty trained and able to wear underpants or a swim suit I just don’t want to be there.

Many new villagers have issues after their purchase. Due diligence is a must when purchasing any home here or elsewhere. Did you make an impulse purchase without surveying the surrounding area? Also why would anyone assume that an amenity should change its designation because a resident isn't pleased with its current status. There are adult only pools less than 4 miles from Marsh Bend. I know there is one in Monarch Grove and another in McClure. We haven't found any villages representatives to be overly curt or rude. Probably some should have been as I am not the most gracious individual at times.
Offering a suggestion to all, a little homework prior to a home purchase can save a lot of disappointment after the purchase. Check google maps, plats from the county, look at the deed restrictions, look at 100 year flood maps, locate major roadways, power lines, etc...

I'm pretty sure there is a pool in the historic side that is 8' deep. So they are not all the same depth. Then some of the pools for laps are 4' deep.

I know - how terrible, older people getting exercise in a community literally known for its active lifestyle. Maybe they have bad backs, knees, hips etc - but walking in a pool is great exercise for “older ladies” - not to mention it’s usually quite social, because they are often not alone.

Willow Tree across Warm Spring is an adult pool and not far. I sympathize. It was poor planning by the Villages, but as you have found out, they don't give a rip. The sports pools are for lap swimming, exercise and various group classes or volleyball. They are not for floating around and socializing, and there are no lounge chairs on the pool deck.

Well, you state that you didnt think much about it when you moved in. Then was your option to either accept it or pick a home closer to an adult pool. The rec dept guy was probably annoyed and for good reason. You just moved in and now you want them to designate a pool closer to you for adults or want a reason why there isnt. Why would they change it just for you? Yes, this is a 55+ community with the residents having young visitors therefore a family pool is logical. I rarely see tons of rowdy kids at any pool. And the rec guy probably did have an attitude of “too bad”. Your request is unreasonable and Im sure he has more important calls or issues to handle

No they are not.
I have lived here for almost fifteen years and see NO EVIDENCE that the developers "don't give a rip". I see a lot of evidence that they have made things nice and accommodating for MOST people. After all, that is their business. They are selling homes and the community. I get a "feel" sometimes that people are jealous of their great financial success and think ill of them because of it. I don't like it. I like it here a lot. I don't think any of us know what ALL of the Morses are thinking and whether or not they care about us or not. I am satisfied, more than satisfied with what I see. Yesterday along the cart path on 466, from our village to Laurel Manor, I saw old plants dug out and new ones placed where the old ones had over grown. I saw a leaning tree had been dug out and the sod replaced so that you could barely tell where it was. I saw the black fence at the circle freshly painted.

Wrong and wrong. Sports pools are for residents or those holding resident ids. Pools at postal boxes are typically the adult pools, age 30+. Pools at Villages Rec Centers are for residents and their visitors under 30 years of age.
Over the years as The Villages expanded, they drew upon experience; i.e., what worked/didn't work, what amenities villagers requested, etc. That's most likely what is occurring in the newest areas. There are many opportunities to purchase a home in an area that has all the amenities one may want. Being an odd ball, I've stayed in my original home for 16 years. So far, I like the amenities offered nearby.:icon_wink:

We rent at the Lofts which is a 55+ apartment complex only. Everyone in the Villages can swim & play in the small pool here. You would have thought it would have been an adult only pool but nope it is for everyone. Very small not very deep but when the kids arrive it becomes a bit chaotic. It is refreshing to see some parents who actually are having their kids being respectful of others. Unfortunately that is the minority instead of the majority. Some of us were told this would be for the residents only when we first inquired and later changed it to a pool for everyone. People bring their kids & let them run & scream. We can go in & tell the person inside on duty but who wants to stop exercising, get out of the pool & walk around the building since you can’t walk through the bldg in a wet suit and alert them. The person at the desk in the Recreation building sits at the front desk comes out every once in awhile just to scan members cards. That is also a joke. I have come & left a few times & no one has come out to even scan my card. Some are pretty good & others just sit inside never to be seen. It is what it is so I wear my water proof mp3 headset turned up so the music drowns out the brats while I exercise and leave. We love living here at the Lofts so we have to enjoy the positives & find a way to deal with the negatives. Just like we do in our daily lives. Fortunately we have many more positives than negatives here at the Villages. It amazes me how many petty complaints I read in the Talk of the Villages. The answers when others ask about doctors, who to call for maintenance & etc, good restaurants & other questions is very helpful. Again we ignore the negatives & enjoy the positives. Have a good day!

1.Community transportation .
2. closeness of home problems. Like noise and smoking, golf carts noise.
3. sink holes.
4. lighting.
5. location problems. Near commercial centers,
6. rental problems.
7. high season traffic problems. such as Round about
8. restriction and rules.
9. power lines and towers.
These are all mentioned in the talk of the village forms treads listed here for all to read.
Having mentioned these problems the villages is the one the the best 55+ communities for amenities and life style no other community can beat them in USA or come near them for amenities and life style.

Judging by many of the complaints I read on TOTV, the complainers all had Executive, and Championship golf courses, shops, gas stations, doctors, hospitals, shopping malls restaurants, swimming pools etc. all within 5 minutes travel time of their previous homes.
Can't understand why they left to come to a place where you may have to travel for an eye watering 10-20- even 30 minutes to get to all those things!:ohdear:

I don't live near there but I have to agree with her. We live in a senior community. Our amenities should be geared toward seniors. If someone wants to bring their young children or grandchildren, they should be the ones to have to travel a little further for the convenience. When moving into an area, it is difficult to research EVERYTHING. If it is common throughout TV to have an adult pool in every neighborhood, why would one think they would deviate from that? We should all have comparable amenities regardless of which area we live in.

Our amenities ARE geared toward seniors and what they enjoy, some of whom enjoy having their grandchildren visit and taking them for a swim and they do have to travel a little further to do so, a very small percentage of residents live near the family pools. It is common north of 44 to have an adult pool in every neighborhood, that is not the case south of 44 and I would believe they deviated from the norm because of answers to surveys and input from those living here or planning to live here. Having cookie cutter amenities is boring and we would not have the opportunity to enjoy all of the new and different amenities the developers are building for us such as the family pools, putt & play, pitch & putt, food trucks, live entertainment areas with adult beverages available other than the squares, indoor markets, recreation centers with restaurants and bars, large gas fire pits, miles and miles of hike and bike paths without the worry of golf cars being on them, nature trails, manmade lakes large enough for kayaks and dragon boats, on, and on, and on. Most if not all of the new amenities they are trying have been well accepted including the family pools. There are always going to be those that are not happy with the changes and that is to be expected.

The singer Joe hand was very good, people were dancing, and everyone looked like they were having a great time. It was a much nicer scene than the Squares where the music is much too loud.

I wrote to Talk of the Villages when Marsh Bend was being built and asked the same question. I was told that the developer is changing the way they do things. We looked in that area but didn't buy there because of the lack of adult pools. I am sorry you found out after you purchased. We actually have been going around and reading the signs for who is allowed to swim so we could find a neighborhood that has an adult pool. Does DeLuna have an adult pool or is that also a family pool?

Stu, There have been more kids in the family pools since the start of Covid a year ago. I think you may be biased but kids are kids. The ones I have seen are loud, splash a lot and to me it is not relaxing. I am not against children in family pools but it is reasonable to understand why a person who moves to a 55+ community could want a serenity pool for relaxation.

We have been to the family pool at Truman a number of times in the past year, including when our two oldest grandchildren (9 and 7) were here in December and have always thought kids were well behaved.
In fact quite a few people came up to us and wished their grandkids would have been able to come.
Do not think the pools are going to be overrun with kids.

DeLuna has a family pool. The nearest adult pool to Marsh Bend at this time would be in McClure, DeSoto, Fenney, Monarch Grove, and a few of the new village on the other side of the turnpike.

I wonder if Harold Schwartz wou
ld have approved of the "if you don't like it ... too bad" tone and posture of the recreation department. So..........anyone else out there know why Marsh Bend postal station pool is not adult only?
Sounds familiar... "I didn't know there was a Turnpike when I bought my house". Are you that averse to families? Do what the rest did... build a pool in your backyard. There is a reason there are more private pools in Marsh Bend than anywhere else. Using the old Schwartz wanted is getting old... Only one pool "family" in the historic section, Orange Blossom area... Schwartz lived there.

Why would they? 45 apartments will not have a significant negative effect on life around Spanish Springs, they might even bring life back into an ailing square. Also, why would you single out The Villages sales staff when MLS agents also sell homes in that area?

I know - how terrible, older people getting exercise in a community literally known for its active lifestyle. Maybe they have bad backs, knees, hips etc - but walking in a pool is great exercise for “older ladies” - not to mention it’s usually quite social, because they are often not alone.
I think you missed the point of that post you replied to. My response was "EWWWWW" when I read that.

The Paradise Rec. Center pool has an eight foot deep end. At one time it even had a "real" diving board. Too much fun and too much worry about possible liability prompted its removal. At least the grandkids still enjoy diving down for small weighted toys, and the deep end is free of walkers so the kids are free to play and swim feely.

Each Village should have an Adult Pool. This is the reason we move to a retirement community. Family pools could be located further apart. The Developer is being cheap in what they are now building in the new communities. Do you see any new Squares on the horizon or Movie Theaters, restaurants? You do see a lot of new homes being built without the amenities. In the early days, I was told, they built the Squares first then the houses. Complete opposite now.

From what I understand, swimming is frowned up in the neighborhood pools. I swim laps in the sports pools but on a very rare occasion, I do go to our neighborhood pool with hubby. I would never swim in that pool. I was told it is for walking or lounging around. The lounging around part can be very relaxing, especially with a noodle to float around with.

Hubby and I visit all three squares semi-regularly as we love to listen to live music and people watch during "normal" times. During the pandemic, we stay in our golf cart so that is why we have been going to LSL mostly the last year as it is closest to our home in Mallory Square. Now that we are both fully vaccinated, we just may join the masses in the square in chairs and try to social distance. We do love the town squares and all the restaurants they offer. If you don't like not having an adult pool buy your home in a village that has one, there are plenty to choose from. How do you come up with the developer being cheap in what they are now building, there are more new amenities being added than ever before. Are there new squares on the horizon, the answer is yes, move theaters I don't know, restaurants, yes. When they built Paddock Square, they knew they were going to build south of 44 and until they did that square was a ghost town, now that there are new homes down south Paddock will do just fine, just as it was intended. The early days are gone, the new way of building and adding different amenities is the future of TV, gotta get used to it or go elsewhere.

Welcome to TOTV. Everybody pretty much knows before they bought what is nearby before they closed. The pools South of 44 were built before the houses and if you bought there you should have known it was a family pool. Movie Theaters were not that busy to begin with. Having one in each square is over sufficient. What we need is not more restaurants, but ones with good food and good service.

Our last visit to Cattail Family pool turned into a game of dodgeball with 2 Tom Brady wannabees throwing a football the full length of the pool. And let me emphasize wannabees because if I had the accuracy they did I sure wouldn't want it on display in public. We were on the side of the pool just trying to relax and talk but we became responsible for retrieving their football since it was splashing down closer to us than the intended recipient. It's all fun and games until a football hits you in the face. Anyway, of course we could have left these two angels to their fun and driven over to the adult pool, but, I think the point of the original poster is that it's odd that there are two family pools so close to each other, to the point where it's surprising one isn't designated an adult pool. As some have pointed out, "there's hardly any kids at the family pools"....which begs the question then, why do we have 2 family pools so close to each other if there are so few kids actually using them. Yes, we did our due diligence and knew the nearest adult pool was willow-tree, and I guess it's not a big deal, but I've got to say it is annoying when you have to pass up 2 pools close to you because you're not in the mood for a game of dodge ball.

Remember that those that believe the Developer doesn't give a rip believe it only because they want it different and feel it should have been done their way, those that complain on here (and those that are positive on here) are a minority of the total population. We have evolved into a sound bite society where we want others to speak for us without doing due diligence and for a large part, love to jump on bandwagons because of it.

Wouldn't that be true, depending on which house they live in?

The very first time we actually sat in chairs in LSL square was last evening. YAY!!!! We listened to a great band and the weather was just gorgeous. The band was the Never Never Band. Wasn't there a country club that was demolished in Spanish Springs? Isn't that the location where the apartments are going to be built? I'm only asking because I have read about that on this forum. Are the apartments not going to be built? I think apartments in that location are only going to increase the traffic on Morse Blvd north of 466. No???
Spanish Springs is a town square, they are not "building" a apartment building in Spanish Springs, they are planning to remodel existing buildings including part of Katie Belles to convert them into apartments, huge difference.

I always thought that area adjacent to the Spanish Springs town square is referred to as "Spanish Springs" too. Those villages located heading north along Morse Blvd as you approach 441 are not considered "Spanish Springs"? If not, that is what I meant, sorry. What is planned to be built on the land where the country club was demolished in that area?

Remember that those that believe the Developer doesn't give a rip believe it only because they want it different and feel it should have been done their way, those that complain on here (and those that are positive on here) are a minority of the total population. We have evolved into a sound bite society where we want others to speak for us without doing due diligence and for a large part, love to jump on bandwagons because of it.
Well said.

Still no answer as to what is projected to be built on the site where the country club was demolished. Anyone know?

No, that is not what you mentioned up-thread, you stated that they are "BUILDING" an apartment building in Spanish Springs, they are not. They are building an apartment building in Hacienda Hills. You were and are incorrect. For the third time, in Spanish Springs the plan is to convert office space and part of Kattie Belle's into 45 apartments. Hacienda is not in Spanish Springs, if you go to TV homes for sale and search The Village of Spanish Springs there are only the attached condos located there along with the square.

Thank you for the information. I've lived here full time since 2013 and I've been misinformed all this time thinking that Spanish Springs was a general area besides being a town square so I thank you for correcting me.

When does a thread with so many posts not go off topic?
