Looking for someone to come to my home to solve a computer issue. My wireless computer is not communicating with my wireless printer. Was working fine, but then one day stopped printing upon command.
Can you recommend someone you have used that is trustworthy?

Before hiring someone, consider it might just need to be re-set. That happens to me on occasion with my HP Envy 6255 photo printer, and I've heard it happens to other HP printers once in awhile too. The best way to reset (not the only way but always best to try it the first time "from scratch"):

Correctly shut down your computer.
Correctly shut down your printer (if it's an HP with a button on the front, just hold it in until it shuts itself off. Not intuitive, most people don't know that and just unplug it. Don't do that. You need a reset, not a power-off).

Then...

turn your computer back on. Wait until it's finished cycling through all its start programs. You'll *probably* get an error message saying there's no printer attached. That's fine, just ignore the message.

Now turn your printer back on.

It SHOULD reset automatically.

If it doesn't, then you can call a guy.

The files that were loaded on to your computer with the initial printer installation should contain various diagnostic files. Try running some of them, worked for me.

Depending on the age of the printer you can call support and they can fix it for you but if over a year they will charge.

I've had difficulties with my fairly new Brother WiFi B/W laser printer since the last update for Windows 10. I Installed a new set of drivers but still had the difficulty. So then went to Settings | Devices | Printers. Selected the printer that was being a "petulant child" and deleted it. Ha! Take That! Then I selected "Add a New Printer" and the computer searched for wireless printers to choose from. Sure enough my "petulant" one was there and I selected it to be installed. After that was completed, I reset it to be my default printer and so far after a few days and several print commands, I've had no issues of it ignoring my instructions.

Short and Sweet: Delete the printer from your computer and install it again. :a040:

Have you tried printing from another device, like a smart phone or a tablet? That will tell you if the issue is just with the computer.

Thought I was getting somewhere, but then it wanted a WPS Pin which I did not know. So now the HP printer is disconnected.

Normally all you have to do is press the WPS button on the modem, and the pin will be sent and the two will connect.

Go to the small home screen on the front of the printer and press the WIFI button to verify that the printer is connected to your WIFI network. It should display the name of your WIFI network. It is possible that it could have been accidentally connected to a neighbor's network that is within range. If it is connected to the correct network, then you should be able to print to the printer from any device that is also connected to the same WIFI network. You should also verify that your computer is connected to the same network. You shouldn't need the WPS pin.

I thought the WPS pin was on the router/modem that you get from your Internet provider.

One other thought...

Uninstall the HP printer software, download the newest version of the printer S/W from HP.com and reinstall it. This should automatically find the printer and setup everything as needed.

It is, but the Internet provider usually converts it to a password that you can select and change. But, pressing the WPS button on the router/modem can accomplish the same thing as entering the password on some wireless devices.

Sounds like your printer may have gotten a new IP address. Resetting the printer may help resolve the problem. The other option would be to reset all your networking equipment (modem, router, computers, etc.).

Can you recommend someone you have used that is trustworthy?

TIA

First, unplug power cord from printer and outlet. After several seconds, reply outlet and printer. Before trying to print, make sure both are on the same network band.
If you still need a guy, I suggest getting a recommendation from one of the computer clubs here.

I had the same problem with mine the other day and I had to not only shut it down but unplug it from the electrical plug. I tried to just shut it down and I tried to unplug the back of the computer and until I unplugged it from the power, it would not reboot to connect the wireless again. I have a computer engineer in the family and every time I have a problem he says did you unplug from the power. It works every time.

FYI, I have the same issue. Tried everything and I mean everything. Checked out a couple of computer forums and I’m told it’s a glitch with Xfinity. I would be curious to know if you use Xfinity for your internet service?

It may be a problem with the junk modem Xfinity offers, but it isn't a problem with their connectivity. If you have your own router, this isn't the issue.

If you can log into the router, there is probably an AP WPS pin option for the wifi. You enter that pin on the printer and it connects.

There is usually the opposite too, you enter the device PIN in the router and start. It then connects.

Either of you up by Spanish Springs? I can fix this easily.

I will come to your home to do a computer repair. I specialize in WINDOWS ONLY computers. I will diagnose and repair problems. My rate is $50 per hour. Tell me what brand and operating system you are using. The issue sounds like a router issue. Sometimes these are a quick fix, other times it takes many hours to rebuild a network to keep everything working.

I also offer Remote maintenance contracts of Windows systems & Networks.

We had the same exact problem with or WiFi & hooking up with our wireless computer. We resorted calling the help line that came with our Wireless Computer. Glad we did because I bet you it still took I bet a 1/2 hr. to 45 mins. for them to get us on line. So I would suggest for you to call them, it may not take them 5 mins. to do it. Good Luck!

Sometimes it’s as simple as checking the WiFi to be sure it’s set to your current location. There is usually a WiFi icon in the upper right corner of your screen. Click on it (a drop down box with choices should appear) to see if your connection is correct. If not, choose the correct WiFi and you should be good to go.
Nothing to lose.by checking.

Since it once worked and now does not I would guess your router issued a new IP address to the printer as is normal from time to time. The best way to keep this from happening is to assign a reserved static IP address in your router fir the printer so all your devices will use this same IP address going forward.
If all this sounds like goobldy gook, Google your router type and look up how to reserve an IP address.

This happens to us occasionally. After several frustrating hours we found that if you unplug your modem and the printer for about one minute, plug them back in they connect. We have HP 8600 printer. The problem started when Xfinity gave us a new modem which combined the 2.4 and 5.0 bands.

If the unplugging and plugging back in doesn't work, just uninstall the printer, then hit add new printer, (your model will show up on the list of printers) and reinstall. That usually works for me.

We used Scott Wilcox phone 352 461-5164. We were pleased, cost reasonable.
We used him twice. We recommended him to a neighbor and they too were happy.

I am far from a computer expert. Wireless? They usually give the option of a cable connection and they supply the cable. I would try that. I would shut all off and turn it back on. I would try a reinstall. Depending on what printer you have. It is amazing how inexpensive they are. We bought a lazer printer scanner, fax it is B&W only if, I recall it was $100. For a tech to come to your home it will cost you around that. Say $65 or $85 compared to a new machine. My unit is ??? about 6 years old. We put ink into it.
Typically they give you a limited amount of ink to get you started on their gocha habit.
The ink is close to what you pay for the machine
