441 southbound is down to one lane by Rolling Acres. If you have to go that way, I recommend you go a different route.

They (the government, I suppose) are certainly never happy with 441. They were working on it when we moved here and now they are working on it again. Are they still planning to tear down the overpass over Hwy. 25 and replace that with a regular intersection?

Well from previous posts on multi lane highways and byways everybody supposed to drive in right lane anyway unless passing, so what’s the problem:1rotfl: O, I see , can’t speed in the left lane all the way. :faint:

The current problem is probably due to the reconstruction to remove the overpass over route 25. I have already made plans to avoid this area for several months. Hopefully it will be better with the additional lanes.

We moved here in 2011, and 441 was a construction nightmare for a year or more, maybe two. It took forever.
Then "they" decided to widen 466A from Powel Road to 301, and that-few block construction took two full years.

I really do not think they are getting rid of the overpass...why would they do all the structural reinforcing of that overpass?

A couple of years ago, they said they were going to get rid of the overpass. Who knows what the current plans are.

Well that's what happens when you have a place as busy and successful as the Villages, which is showing no signs of slowing down new development. It attracts more people, which attracts more commerce, which all combines to attract a LOT more traffic, which means roads have to be widened, repaved, repainted/lined, new driveways need to be built out, new water and underground electric cables installed to connect to the new sections, and by the time you're done with all of that, everything you did the first time around, needs to be upgraded so you have to start all over again.
If you want this to stop, then you need to convince the Morse Family to either stop or significantly slow down development. They own most of the land now, so no one else will be building on it.

I said nothing about wanting it to stop. I was commenting on how long it takes them to do the construction.

The removal of the overpass has been published several times, along with the new road configuration and the new traffic light. In order to remove the over pass there will need to be temporary travel lanes installed, hence the current mess.

The information you’re requesting: https://www.**************.com/2020/08/06/45-million-u-s-hwy-441-widening-project-will-continue-through-2023/
By the way, we moved here in 2002. They were then working on US Hwy 441, but down by Leesburg. I think that project took over 5 years to do. It amazes us how long projects take around here to complete.

I'm really curious as to how they are going to do this since they are shoring up the ramps structurally heading south. If that's temporary that's a lot of work. I'm not saying that it doesn't need to be done, just curious as to how.

I think they intend to temporarily re-route north bound traffic onto the overpass that they bolstered with a bulkhead and south bound traffic onto the road they are installing next to the bulkheaded overpass. This gives them the freedom to remove the other overpass (current northbound traffic), Once the overpass is removed, they will probably create new north and south lanes in place of the removed overpass. They then would have the freedom to remove the second overpass (with the bulkhead). Just a guess.

We will start to call the 441 or the villages LITTLE NEW YORK CITY I also heard that BJ's is building a new store next to Lowes in the vacant field just south of Lowes. That traffic light at Lowes on 441 will be a new nightmare when it is finished......

The construction is ongoing, and will continue to be ongoing indefinitely, as long as developers continue to develop.
They only had that section up by Home Depot diverted on the southbound side for the past couple of weeks. Before that, it was the northbound side.
I imagine they'll finish that part of it within the next couple of weeks. But they're laying pipe under the road. As they say in business: you can have it quickly, correctly, or inexpensively. Pick any two.

If they were, why have they spent millions shoring up the west side of it?

Thanks for the website link. It answers the questions without the guess work. It is amazing this particular project started in 2005 with a projected Construction Start Date of Early Spring 2020.

That is exactly what will be happening.
It was discussed at the county com. meeting a few years ago.

I hope that a lot of the traffic doesn't decide to detour on to Rolling Acres, especially northbound. It's already a mess.
