I have cracks in the stucco on the corner of the house. It is in a staircase pattern with the underlying blocks. I have heard loud pops or cracking sound occasionally coming from that corner. Should I be concerned?

IMHO, I would hire a home inspector (Frank DeAngelis) and have him look over the area. A staircase crack would definitely concern me. If the house is less than 10 years old call home warranty as structural problems are covered for 10 years. Hope this is a minor problem.

I am a licensed registered professional civil engineer.
A staircase pattern indicates lack of support and a flexing or settlement of the foundation. A straight up and down crack is on most block homes here but is normal expansion and contraction.
Since the primary ground soil here is sand, it is very easy for sand to be washed away with rainwater from the roof or sprinkler leaks.
So yes, call a professional and determine how to restore the foundation support.
