Had a very brief (overnight) visit from kids and grandkids last night, who had never been to TV before. Of course we took the obligatory trip to the square for music, dancing and ice cream.
This is the first time I've been in TV after mid-April, and the crowd was by far the sparsest I've ever seen. It was nice though, but I was surprised.
Not having been here in May before, I was just wondering if the smallish crowd was due to the band not being a popular favorite (I thought they were fine), or just a function of the time of year?
The grandies had a great time.

I was at Blue Fin last night don’t know who was playing but the square seemed pretty crowded when we came outside after 9 pm

We were there on the weekend and it was jam packed, so it may have been the band?

Who was the band and who was playing at the other squares. Sometime if popular bands are at the other squares then the crowd follows them there. I have never been down this time of year but guessing some of it has to do with fewer people there. A few weeks back Sumter was pretty thin when the band was playing.

Chasing Amy was there last night. I tell you this...since the squares reopened, whenever the Hooligans, Spasmatics, Johnny Wild, and to a lesser extend Rocky and the Rollers play the squares, they are jammed packed, no matter the night of the week.
I'm sure Chasing Amy are a talented and dynamic band that have something to please everyone in the Top 40 "party band" genre. However, I'm noticing that most Villagers (and those who live in the surrounding areas) have discerning musical taste. They/we seem to want something a little different than generic top 40 party music. Not sure why that is. My guess is we've all heard those songs thousands of times before and perhaps the tunes have gotten a little stale?
Not criticizing Chasing Amy at all. I checked out their videos on Youtube and they're perfectly fine, but perhaps that type of music is overrepresented in the Villages. Just my take. I'm a sucker for talking about anything to do with music!

Anita Drink and Southbound. I've seen both and both are excellent, in my opinion, especially Anita Drink. But they too draw less than the big four I mentioned above and I doubt they took any of Chasing Amy's audience.

Depends on the band. Some are not so popular , even in high season.

We saw Anita Drink last night. We try to catch them whenever they come to Spanish Springs. My husband is in awe of Kayleigh's ability to switch from bass guitar to ukelele to trumpet. I just love the combination of musicians, their voices, and their selections. I get to dance, and then take a minute while they slow things down (or speed them up to "great listening, can't dance to it" tunes), before I head back over toward the stage.

I like Chasing Amy but the band that I like that has the biggest crowd time after time is Rocky and the Rollers, have never seen bigger crowds than what they get.

So only at Spanish Springs, do they play at the others?

Yes they do play at the other town squares. But we aren't "followers of bands." We just enjoy an occasional night out "on the town" and Spanish Springs is the closest town square to our house.

Tell the truth, didn’t you follow Yes? (I did too in the early and mid '70s. Saw them every time they played South Florida.)

The stars are shining a little brighter tonight. The Hooligans played War Pigs at Spanish Springs.

Have the Beatlemaniacs play. Hours of just Beatles songs. That would get people dancing.

That sure wasn’t the case at Havana CC last Thursday night. Cars were circling the parking lot looking for spaces. Some cars parked in the aisles. You could not have squeezed one more person into either the indoor or outdoor seating. People lined up indoors and outdoors waiting, with their buzzers in hand.
Hopefully everyone had been vaccinated. But with the statistics I’ve seen showing vaccinations by political party, that was almost certainly not the case. We’ll give Havana a “drive by” next time before going in. Had we not been meeting another couple, we’d have not gone in that night.

Love The Buzz Kats. Do they still play TV. Moved out a few years ago and would love to see them again.😍

Heard the Blues Jam on Thursday nights (with SSnakeyez as the house band) at World of Beer is not coming back. Anyone heard anything? That was usually a great option.
P.S. I do know about the Blues Jam across the street at McCall's but I liked the WOB jam better and it was also Taco Thursday!

Many less people in TV at this time of year. It gets reflected everywhere in my opinion.

Probably a little of both. Also in by end April most of the renters are gone and can't compare Brownwood & Sumpter, Brownwood a lot closer to those south of 44 then Sumter is and makes for a shorter commute. Just saying.

I was at Bluefin on Fri for dinner and the square was packed.

The musicians were awesome last night. Music sounded exactly like the bands they were playing the songs from.
The woman doing the vocals, not so much. She was not singing with enough gusto or rockin’ and rolling’......she has the wrong voice for all the songs she attempted to sing.

Are you referring to Ampli-Fires? This promo looks alright if mainstream rock hits is your thang.

One thing I've noticed for years now, rather "in" season or "off" season, when the Caribbean Chillers play, it's packed, no matter which square they are playing ! People just never seem to tire of hearing Jimmy Buffet's songs not matter how much they've heard them. We really enjoy blues, but only one group seems to be on the schedule often. Same with jazz, like blues, does not seem as frequent or as popular, country seems very popular, along with old time R&R of course. The nice part is, there is a good variety and that makes it nice for everyone !

It was 95 degrees yesterday in the late afternoon. Perhaps it was still unusually hot in the evening and people chose to stay home. We usually get a shower to break the heat if it gets that hot, then it cools down, but no rain yesterday. I know I let the heat make me think twice about going out.
