Hello. We are new to The Villages with a preowned home. We had planned to rip out the carpet (which is wrinkled and with dark areas in the traffic paths) and replace with laminate. We did have Dave's Carpet Cleaning come do an estimate on stretching the carpet and cleaning it, so we made an appt to have that done. This gave us more time to research the flooring and decide if we want to recarpet eventually or do laminate or engineered hardwood. Anyway, after reading some really negative posts about Dave's (from two years ago) we wondered if anyone has used him recently and what their experience was. Should we cancel or go forward?? Thanks for any input!! Cynthia:undecided:

friends of ours used Dave's in the last year and they were not happy with his service.

I just got an estimate from eco power plus, husband and wife seem very professional but my 1000 sq ft of carpet will cost $325. scotch guard included. That seems a bit pricey to me but I really don't know........

Checked out TOTV for carpet cleaning. A few members used & recommended Steve Burstock:eclipsee_gold_cup: Called Steve today. Came over after lunch, he had just finished up another job. Beautiful work. Carpet looks fantastic. Excellent price, great work, thanks to the previous members for passing his name along. He'll be seeing allot more positive comments as word of mouth gets out.

Try a company called chem-dry. It is a franchise co. owned by home depot, and they use a different process using carbonation and a whole lot less water than conventional hot water/steam systems. Supposedly dry in a couple of hours.

Does Steve/Lotto Cleaning move the furniture or does the homeowner have to do that? How long does it take to dry before it can be walked on? I assume there is some sort of water/steam involved with the cleaning.

It's just about two years and I have one of these :doggie: so it's time to get it cleaned! Thanks for the info.

Used Chem-Dry through Home Depot. It was awful.

Thanks for your reply, I just heard about the company here in Mass, and they had a pretty good pitch. I guess its all about the franchise operators.

We used Chem Dry in our house here in VA just prior to listing for sale. We were very pleased with the results. As mentioned above, it could be the franchise owner or operator that is not performing properly.

sorry, lynn - i never asked steve what process he used - but i am sure he will tell you if you give him a call - i do know that the carpet was wet and took a good while to dry - and i know that the carpet did not have to be replaced when he had finished!

Through the suggestions posted on TOTV, we called and had Steve clean our carpet. I was totally pleased with his work and price. Thank you to whomever gave his name and phone number originally. We will use his services again when needed and have recommended him to neighbors.

We used Dave when we were new because of his big advertisement in the Sun. Terrible terrible job. First appointment nobody showed. Second attempt he had 2 kids( he paid nothing to do the work) that left the rug too wet and didn't move any furniture! It was Friday PM and they had a party to go to...:ohdear: The wetness made the rug wrinkle like crazy and there were black marks all over it. I could go on about other horror stories I've heard about this business. Please warn newbies, not to use this Dave's.

There have been a few different threads on Carpet Cleaning. In all you'll find Steve Burstock, Lotto Carpet Cleaning to be positive. Why try someone you're not sure of, when everyone else is saying this guy is GOOD. We were extremely happy with the job he did, especially the entrance way from the garage. EXCELLENT price as well and a nice guy.

We found Steve on this site, he did our carpets (amerillo) last Wed. Awesome job and awesome price. Nice guy too. I thought I posted this on Wed but I can't seem to find it now...

Steve cleaned our carpet today and we couldn't be happier. He did a super job, took his time and was very friendly and professional throughout the whole process. When he was done I asked him how much we owed him and I almost dropped my checkbook when he told me. I won't mention a number here but, let's just say that I wrote my check for $25 more than he asked for! The job was THAT good and, even at that he was one-half as expensive as the last carpet cleaner we had. His philosophy is that he would rather be busy all the time at reasonable rates than to sit home doing nothing....well, maybe golfing just a little! He is a very humble guy and hadn't seen all of your complimentary posts here until his daughter showed them to him last night! Hire Steve with complete confidence. You will be VERY happy you did!

:agree: I'm glad Steve gets the attention & exposure from other members of TOTV. It is well deserved for the amazing work he does cleaning carpets. Those that have already had him at their house now have him on their go to list. Our list is helped by other member's feedback. We have Chuck Farrell for any Air Conditioning & Heating problems, and we have Above All Lawn Care for our lawn service which do a great job and at a excellent rate. As problems arise the place to go is TOTV not the yellow pages.

I've used Chem Dry two or three times and think they do a great job. There is no nasty dirty water odor in the carpet with this company. Have not been pleased with work by Stanley Steamer.

We made the same mistake. Had Dave come do a quote and spent a looong time lecturing us about wearing black soled shoes, etc. Pretended to be a strong Christian who stood behind his work. :grumpy:Said he'd make the carpet look almost new. He did stretch the carpets, and that turned out alright, but the carpet looked worse than when he started and got much worse each day. We've since contracted to tear out the carpet & replace with laminate flooring. It was an expensive lesson to learn!

It is so true! I depend on input from all the TOTV members for our contractor decisions. I wouldn't dream of hiring anyone that consistently gets bad press on TOTV.
