We've never used this software! I decided to call their number and it was an auto transfer to advise me that all operators were busy and put me on hold for 10 minutes and then got a recorded "Good-bye". Crap like this is so annoying!!!

Never respond to anything that doesn’t even have your name on it. That is the first red flag.

Welcome to the computer age. Old school perhaps, we do not do on line banking. So any on line bill is a scam. Regular suggestions from companies go paperless. Hum, so they want me to use my printer and my paper to save them money.

Yes somehow they think we are dumb enough to pay for the paper we use to print their bills. Some at least take off a buck or so when you do this but most allow you to pay the same price.

No, it's part of the scam. This scam only works if they get you to call their number. $150 may be about right and might not catch someone's eye. However, if you think you are about to be charged $450 then you are more likely to call to get it straightened out. Once you call them they know they have you and can start getting information from you.
The funny thing is being put on hold and hung up on - the scammers aren't going to get much with that technique.

OP, I would suggest that you check your phone bill for a possible toll charge. The area code 833 appears to be a toll free number. But, the FTC says you should never call any of the following area codes:
268 area code – Antigua and Barbuda
284 area code – British Virgin Islands
473 area code – Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique
664 area code – Montserrat
649 area code – Turks and Caicos Islands
767 area code – Commonwealth of Dominica
809, 829, 849 area codes – Dominican Republic
876 area code – Jamaica
Calling these numbers can result in a high toll charge on your bill, and your provider cannot remove the charge because of international agreements. I would never return a call from a scammer.

My daughters mother in law had actually just purchased Norton anti virus for her computer.
About a week later she gets this same thing (think it was a pop-up) Only difference was that it said she had 'overpaid', and they wanted to issue a partial refund. So she gave all the bank info, and they cleaned them out. Business accounts, savings and so on.
Best to toss in trash, or if on line, mark sender as SPAM and move on.

So, you have to look carefully. . .
Norton Service telephone number as posted on their web site
1-855-966-7866
Email number
1 (833) 328 0756
Lots of similar looking numbers, but always check the vendor number prior to calling.
Google unknown numbers and vendors numbers prior to calling any number if you are confused.
There is no need to return any calls or emails from a vendor you don't recognize. .
Almost every poster here recommends the same response to these emails/calls
Why do people still not believe posters with experience over random emails from unknown sources?
Please think about your personal reasons for your choices versus posters with experiences.

I think Norton itself is a scam. When they merged with LifeLock, I cancelled my subscription. I use the Windows 10 built in virus protection and it seems to work fine.
But, Norton also claims to protect tablets and smart phones from viruses. I have never had a virus on a tablet or phone. A few times my browser has locked up, but it always corrects itself when you reboot the tablet.

That “833” area code may be one of those numbers that bill your phone $10.00 or $20.00 per minute. Check your phone company to see if that’s the case. Good luck and in the future, just delete or trash anything you know is fake. They can’t do anything if you don’t respond.

I also received that same message. Also received a message from Netflix. Was also spam as the typing in the message did not have consistent lettering and not the official Netflix logo. Beware

Save filing space, etc. by not printing the bill, but saving the pdf version in a file on your computer. That’s the point of going paperless.

Never blindly believe that the correct telephone numbers are listed in emails. Always look up telephone numbers independently on the Internet. That way you can avoid calling a scammer, who will scam you out of money, and/or steal your identity.
The best way to protect yourself from the malware, extortionware, and viruses is to replace your Windows computers with an Apple Mac computer. Windows computers are full of holes and are very vulnerable and susceptible to malware, extortionware, and viruses, compared to Mac computers. The Mac operating system is dramatically more intelligently designed. The Mac computers cost significantly more than the Windows computers, but they are dramatically more trouble free and they last longer.

SIMPLY GOOGLE THE PHONE NUMBER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Google can often be your best friend. Those numbers could also be a "call and you pay" number like 900 numbers were and they keep you on hold to create a billing to your carrier since you did place the call..

In the last 2 yrs. I’ve got Norton & now Trend both I thought were good Anti Virus Protection but both in loading instructions they wanted me to give my credit card # for the following yr. to renew my subscription & if you didn’t want it next yr. they wanted me to call them & listen to their Robo answering machine for 15 mins. to get it deleted. I called them both right away & told them that they had a 30 day money back guarantee, NO questions asked. So I told them I wanted my money back, guess what they said I didn’t need to call them next yr. Problem Solved!!! But in your case, yes I think you were scammed.

Check your bank account and credit cards to make sure it wasn't identity theft.

The funny thing is being put on hold and hung up on - the scammers aren't going to get much with that technique.
They have plenty from you about that now.
They know:
Your phone number is a valid phone number, and someone on the other end of it is able to make phone calls out, and they can now call that number and know someone is likely to answer it.
They know:
Your phone number belongs to a person who they sent a scam e-mail to, which means you are likely to be made a victim in the future (because people who know in advance it's a scam, wouldn't call that number).
If your e-mail address is similar to the name people get from caller ID when you call them on the phone, they know exactly who you are now. They have your e-mail address, and they've matched it to the name on your caller ID. From there, they can find out ALLLLLLLLL kinds of information just from those two pieces of information.
They can then SELL that information, and the fact that it has all been verified by them as being true, to any scam artist who wants to rip you off.

I received a similar note from "Amazon" indicating that a $779 order for an Apple Iphone is pending my approval. I did what was suggested in this thread and ignored it. However; I did check my Amazon pending orders just to be safe; nothing.
