I was told that when you sell your home, you can return your gate entrance passes and get your deposit back ($100?). I don't remember paying a deposit.

Can anyone confirm/elaborate/explain process?

At closing all keys, residents passes, and gate passes are documented, and will come off on your closing paperwork.

I didn't pay a deposit for the gate passes. You can buy them for $15 each, but there is a limit of 4 cards per house. If you lose a card, they can deactivate it and replace it for $15.

Not true, I have five. I had to show proof that I had two golf carts and three registered vehicles.

Maybe you got an exception. The districtgov.org website says 4 per home.

"When replacing gate cards, the homeowner should bring all remaining gate cards as they are issued in sets of two. Lost or stolen gate cards will be replaced at a $15.00 charge per card. Homeowners can also purchase additional gate cards for a $15.00 charge. A total of four gate cards can be issued per home. The payment types accepted are Cash, Check, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover."

You were "told"...and naturally in lieu of calling the entity that actually knows what you're talking about you post it here...because of 2nd, 3rd or 4th hand info. Hmmm...methinks that keying in a phone number is harder than typing on a computer?

Of the 130.00 deposit you paid you will receive 30.00 back. 100.00 is paid the TV for the privilege of turning them in.

I agree with you in general, but sometimes I am at the computer, I come up with a question, and I just am not in the mood to deal with some office clerk or bureaucrat. So, I post a quick question online in hopes I get a nice concise answer without talking to a robot, talking to a clerk, and getting disconnected three times.

Why would I pay 100 dollars when all got to do is push the red button. Why would I need more that two when all got to do is push the red button?:duck:

That must be a change to the rules. I didn't pay $130 for the gate cards 5 years ago. But, why would you call it a deposit if you don't get it back? Sounds like a fee, not a deposit.

We had to call the closing department, we were charged on our closing papers for nothing turned in. The rep at closing nothing was turned in.
I emailed a copy of the signed letter when the rep took them, from us.
A check was sent to us within the week

If going from Orange Blossom Village to the stores on 441 you need a pass to get your golf cart through gate. No red button on that one.

If The Villages will give you $100, take it and run.

I sold my home in Fenney at the end of January. Just received a check from The Villages for overpaid utilities and our card return. I received $150 for 2 cards.

This is how it works...only when you SELL your home...at closing you pay a certain amount... can't remember but within that amount you pay $130.00...you need to return 2 gate passes the ones that you were given at your purchase time (if you purchased additional ones you can keep those) for that they give you $30.00 back...you must return all photo ID's also and this must be done 30 from closing and you will receive your $100.00 back but they must all be returned...all of them that have been issued to your home unless you have proof of death for someone then you are not responsible to return it...all or nothing on the photo ID's

Yes...that's correct! It was actually included in your closing costs when you purchased your home.

Don’t think theirs a fee for gate passes at least I never paid anything but you might pay something for it if you lose one. So don’t lose one because they may think you gave one or sold one to someone! Besides you really don’t have to have a gate pass, just push the red button at the gate. Just don’t lose your visitor or resident pass, that might cost you something to get replaced.

Just buy blank non-programed HID Prox cards:
2x HID ProxCard II Clamshell Proximity Access Card | eBay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/184036496899?hash=item2ad96e1603:g:LREAAOSwPihdzcE r)
They work at all gates that are not actually connected to a computer (most gates).
Will not work at Paradise, RV storage, Hickory Head Hammock gates.
If you belong to the Ocala Sportsmans club, your card will work. They also use a HID system.
Or just push the red button.

It is not charged to you when you BUY a home it is charged to you when you SELL your home...they want them back so they charge you at closing and if you return them they refund you

One example, at the small golf cart gate north of Spanish Springs you can’t get through to go to Lowe’s or Walmart without a gate key
