View Full Version : Those commercials before video clips

First off, let me say that I made my living in the broadcasting business and my paycheck was a direct result of ad sales.

Now, I find two things extremely annoying, although I understand why they do it.

First is, when you click on a video news clip on-line, you see a 15 or 30 second commercial before the actual story comes on. I, many times, just click away before the news clip comes on.

The other thing is the ads on web sites that come dancing across the page, right over what you are reading, or an accident move of your mouse over an ad that activates it.

Okay, those are my two gripes for this year. :boxing2:

Both legitimate complaints IMO. I share your angst.

My complaint is that they sometimes hide the X to cancel out the ad that is all over the page - especially the floating ads (you move the screen down or up and the ad goes with it).

Amen to all those gripes.

On the other hand, it does keep the content free.

The year is nearly over and if that's all that disturbed you, you've done well.

The worst one is from some of the Orlando, Ocala or Daytona Beach newspaper or TV stations that I look at daily and that is the one where a girl pops up in the lower right corner yelling " check out my new glasses I got at xyz". I cannot kill that one off fast enough. The volume is two or three times what I have for all my other audio on this computer.

Others I don't like but can deal with them. If I see that one in going to be long I can always click and kill the sound.

Glad to hear these gripes re advertising impositions as I've been sooooo annoyed with them EVERYWHERE. Get involved in a story on television and there are soooooooooo many commercial breaks with over ten to fifteen commercials in that one break. During the program, there's runners popping out of the lower corners of the screen that is so very imposing as well.

Then my next HUGE complaint on television programming is the loud background music so loud, one can hardly hear the voices and if you turn the volume up to hear what's said, the music gets louder and drowns out the dialogue. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Ads are why I love to watch soccer - 2 ea 45 minutes halfs; each with no stoppage of play. You get 45 minutes without any ads twice a game!!!!

The half time is 15 minutes of mostly ads that you can leave and come back when the second half starts.

I'm with you, Barb. I HATE, HATE, HATE those little advertisements on the television screen while you are trying to watch a program.

And, I'm surely not the only person who mutes the commercials because they are so loud. You'd think the ad folks would wise-up that no one is listening or watching their ads due to the irritating increased volume.

The quick ads that come on before the online videos don't bother me, though.

:agree: That is so annoying when they hide the x.

You do know, don't you that pretty soon there will be two at the beginning and one in the middle?

Then some technology will come along that will let you zap them. I hope!
