I have a Dyson cordless. Expensive, but it works very well. I would definitely go cordless.

Commercial dust mop does a great job and it's fast once you get the hang of it. I used to clean stores as a kid and one owner showed me the correct way of using them and it's a breeze. My wife uses her Dyson and it does not do nearly as good of a job as the dust mop.

We use an iRobot i7 to vacumn our tile floors. We have dogs that shed constantly and so the floor needs to be vacuumed every day, sometimes twice.
The i7 is a robot, we schedule it to run at the same time daily and then manually send it around when an extra run is needed. It is wonderful to not have to walk around behind a vacuum every day anymore. It works great.
We also have a Roomba Brava Jet mop that we schedule for once a day after the i7 vacuums. It damps mops the floors (it can also dry mop/dust mop) and works great.
Clean floors with almost no work. This is followed every 2 weeks by Great Job Pro cleaners cleaning our house and we are very satisfied with the results.
We have to empty the bin on the vacuum and add a cleaning solution to the mop and change its mopping pad. That is our daily floor cleaning work! We will never go back to manual vacuums again. We have used these for about 4 years now and are completely happy with them.

I have tried them all and I agree, I have the Roomba 980. Very expensive but worth it.

We had a 980 first and loved it until I dropped it in a sink full of water (oops) and had to replace it.
It is probably the best price/performance Roomba you can buy. I got the i7, and we are happy with it, but I don't think it was worth the higher price than the 980.

I have a Roomba, but I love my Dyson cordless even more. It’s a pleasure to use.

We had a yellow Dyson that was great on getting dust and kitty hair off the wood and the tile, but it finally grew so old that my dear husband couldn't get parts for it anymore. Now we have a purple one.
It is SO rewarding after running it to see the cannister full of dust and hair. I LOVE our DYSON.
Works great on Carpet too.

We have hardwood floors in 1/2 the house, tile in entry, kitchen, baths. Carpet in 2 of our bedrooms. We use a DYSON with all the attachments - it's WONDERFUL for everything. So easy to use. I hung the holder with the charger in our entry closet (put in A/C for charger). Just use and hang up, all charged for next use. Also have the holder for all the att there. So dependable. BTW, there is the att for carpet (motor driven head) and one for hardwood and tile (same/motor) with a sponge-like roller with brushes. Works GREAT! $$$$, but worth it.

I use a broom and a dust-pan to get the loose stuff off, then swiffer wet jet, and a normal swiffer dustmop with the wet cloths. Vacuums won't get DIRT off the floor, just loose debris. If you want a dust-free floor, anything will work. If you want a CLEAN floor, you have to mop it.

We have the same....and no pets so we run it twice a week and the Brava once a week unless there is a specific need then we spot clean. We also have the self emptying unit which makes it easier to run when we are not home. Yes, it's expensive and I guess there is no way to justify it except it does a great job, can do it while we are not home and frees up more time for fun. Oh, and because we use the smart map I can organize the schedule so I can sleep in :). The biggest benefit.....my wife loves it.

Another vote for the Roomba. My wife didn’t want to have anything to do with it and now she swears it’s the best purchase we’ve ever made.

Or you could just go with the Bill Murray method used in Caddyshack and open up the front door and fire up the leaf blower.

For less than $100 you can get a Eureka Mighty Mite canister vacuum . It has a 20’ cord and a segmented handle that you can lengthen or shorten and attachments for not only the hard floors but also for vacuuming sofas . You can actually get underneath most furniture with it. It has replacement bags which are pretty inexpensive. I bought my last one on line from Walmart for 69.99.

If you want REAL: Quality, Performance, Power and a vacuum that does not stink up your house once you use it a few times then you need to consider the Miele Complete C3 Brilliant PowerLine - SGPE0. It makes every other vacuum recommended to you by others on here a total AND complete joke. Well worth the 1500 price and has a SUPER large hardwood floor attachment which gets you done in no time. Yes, it uses bags but changing that bag is what keeps the machine from stinking up your house LATER when you turn it on after previous uses.

Eufy G-30 remote. Had Roomba, and Eufy is much quieter & more efficient. Works well on hard floors and low to normal pile carpet. Only use upright now for lanai and garage.

Skippy05, I Googled the vacuum cleaner you recommended and watched a video from a retailer who sells the product. While I am not currently in the market for a vacuum, I will definitely keep the Miele in mind when/if mine breaks down. Although a bit pricy, it looks amazing! Thanks for the posting.

Since this thread has drifted in to more expensive options I recommend a whole home (Central) vacuum. The built in vacuum address every downside of vacuuming. The unit it self is powerful, large, with huge bags yet always out of the way in the garage. Loud but barely heard. Easy to use with the hose is within the pipes in the wall. Change the bag every year or two. Turn on at the inside wall port - convenient
I will admit, as a male, I thought it was a waste of money but I was wrong. It is no more of a luxury than say, electric attic stairs. These can be easily installed on an existing home.

I use and love my shark rocket cordless. One button change from the hard to carpet settings and very long cord so minimal moves. Has various head options for under refrig etc. and hangs neatly on the wall by my dryer. For quick dusts of the floor, I use a microfiber dust mop. Mine is pine sol brand but there are others. Head comes off easily for washing.

It is SO rewarding after running it to see the cannister full of dust and hair. I LOVE our DYSON.
Works great on Carpet too.
We're on our second Dyson cordless too. Dyson replaced the battery for free when it quit running after ten years, but that wasn't the problem. They were going to take it back but offered us a newer version for half price.
My friend with a Golden has both the Roomba and the Dyson. She attests to the fact that the Roomba does not get into all the corners where the Golden "angel hair" collects.
Our second Dyson is an Animal V7 or something like that. It's purple too. They have made it easier to empty. Man, does it fill up with angel hair.
I may not always have a husband, but I will always have a Dyson!

Get one with a manual height adjustment and the beater bar (Brush roller that spins) can be turned off.

If you want to go light and quick, a quality microfiber mop will do. If you want to vacuum, a simple stick vacuum like the Dirt Devil Power Stick will work just fine. About $39 for either - why pay more?

I had a central vac up north but found the long hose to be bulky and heavy. I prefer a cordless stick vac and there are many good quality ones available.

I have the same Electrolux cannister we bought when we got married back in 1990. I use it on the two carpeted rooms in the house and the upholstery on all the seating (except the cane-backed chairs that get wiped down with a damp cloth every once in awhile).
At some point I might consider a steamer for uncarpeted floors, but honestly the swiffer wet jet works just fine.

I have the MooSoo k17 cordless vac and absolutely love it. It weighs only 3 lb goes under very low furniture does a great job on edges, wood tile and carpet. Has two suction levels and lasts up to 30 minutes on one quick charge. It comes with several useful attachments and I love how easy it is to use for cleaning my car since I can detach the long tube and just attach a crevice device for the car. Makes it so easy and simple to clean the car. You can get the k17 red model on eBay for as low as $100 or get the newer k 26 for up to $150 on Amazon. Much cheaper than a Dyson and many customers claim they like it better than their Dyson if you read the reviews on Amazon. I have cats and love how much hair it picks up and it does a great job picking up kitty litter as well. You can buy an additional lithium battery if this one ever dies but I've had mine for over a year now and it is still as strong as ever. This little machine is actually fun to use makes me vacuum more often as it's so quick lightweight and easy to use. I highly recommend it.

I have a Eufi robot vacuum 11s and love it. Roomba is too pricey. The 11s is thin, goes under furniture and is quieter. Runs for an hour and finds it's way back to the charger. I run this 3 days a week. I have a Dyson stick, but am dust allergic and especially hate emptying the Dyson, except when outside. I use a Norwex microfiber dust mop with washable heads to pick up dust (and kitty litter) on the textured tile floor when needed. We have a Rainbow vac for the area rugs too. Mucho power.

Recently bought a Roborock S4 Max and love it. After it maps the whole house, a schedule can be set to do the whole house or specific areas. You can also set virtual barriers it won't cross, like a walk-in shower. I've got one set along the sliding glass doors so it doesn't get hung up in the track. I'd recommend it to anyone.
