Just got back from a golf cart ride out to Colony Plaza for ice cream at McDonalds and saw that the new mexican restaurant Fiesta Grande is open. Must be having a 'soft open' as I haven't seen any advertising. We will probably go there for lunch tomorrow...

I noticed it open last night, had just finished eating at Oakwood. I can't wait to give it a try but I'm leaving the bubble for a while, it will have to wait.

I'm hoping the food is good....I LOVE mexican! :pepper2: Now the question is:

Do we go during the grand opening or do we wait a few weeks to give them time to iron the bugs out? :icon_hungry:

If it's as good as their other store it will be a great addition to the area.

Their other store is in Mount Dora. Ate there on one of our visits. Food and atmosphere were both good.

Woo Hoo! We need good Mexican food in The Villages. Tried the one in Spanish Springs over the summer, it was ok but doesn't measure up to what we have in the Chicago area. Can't wait to try Fiesta Grande out next week.:icon_hungry:

We ate there Saturday afternoon. My husband and I shared a Chicken/Steak Fajita Combo. They don't have their liquor license yet so I missed out on my margarita, but the food was very good. They were very pleasant.

Had lunch there yesterday and the food and service were very good. I think they are a keeper.

We are so thrilled to have a Mexican restaurant in Colony. We love Sakura for Japanese and now Fiesta Grande! I LOVE ethnic! My husband and I ate lunch there today and were very pleased. Probably my only critique would be that it would have been nice to have been greeted by a host or hostess. We stood there like idiots for a few minutes and didn't even get a glance from the bartender for a glance of recognition. A waiter who had a free moment seated us. Probably just a kink that they will work out. Nice Mexican music playing. Very, very nice! We WILL return! :coolsmiley:

I have been to the new Mexican resturant,,,and it is very good...a few kinks in service but not bad at all...they don't have a liquor license right now, but their food is served very quickly and hot, and there is plenty of it.....

Ate there Saturday evening. Seated immediately @ 6:30. Recieved chips & salsa @ 6:35 & took drink order. 6:45 placed food order. Food arrived 7:18. Had to ask for water twice. Will go back - but for round 1, I still like the Mex Restaurant at SS better.

We are new to the area and we just love Mexican food! This place is close to us and I'll be looking for fish tacos on the menu!

I had lunch at Fiesta Grande a couple of days ago and thought it was very tasty. The food was seasoned nicely and service was fast and friendly. I'll be going back again. :icon_hungry:

We ate lunch there Sunday after golf. Service good, food tasty, nice salsa. We will return. Was hoping for lunch portions/prices, but, alas, the lunch menu doesn't apply on Sundays. They are now serving beer and liquor.

all of these comparisons to spanish springs mexican restaurant. what about el ranchito? how does fiesta rate against them?

El Ranchito is my pick of all of them! All of their entrees are made from scratch and are fabulous. Their salsa is one of the best I've ever tasted and I'm from Texas!! The service is excellent and the friendliness of the owner family is wonderful! They get our business, that's for sure.:BigApplause:

Ate at Fiesta tonight and have to say we were disappointed. For one thing, the noise level was deafening. The service was very good as was the salsa and cold beer, but the chips tasted stale and my food was covered with a sweet tomato sauce...never had anything like that at a Mexican restaurant before. We've eaten at Ay Jalisca at Spanish Springs and enjoy that. Sad that Fiesta isn't better as it's much closer for us!

You're retired - waiting a few minutes for dinner shouldn't be a big deal.

And don't keep looking at your watch.

Do yo like El Ranchito in La Plaza Grande or Ay! Jalisco or Margarita Republic in Spanish Springs? We have been going to El Ranchito when in TV for maybe 15 years.

We ate at Fiesta Friday evening and were pleased with it. Our food was a decent sized portion and very good. The noise level did go up as the restaurant filled up for the dinner hour but it was not that bad. Definitely will go back again.

Fiesta Grande/Colony: It was absolutely awful! My husband swears his flautas were previously frozen (Sam's Club?). The shredded beef enchilada I had was so bland and dry I honestly was in shock, the chips and salsa were Tostitos and Pace I would put money on it. I honestly cannot believe the posts here that say it was good! If it lasts 6 months I will be surprised. To be a successful restaurant you've got to have something special: fantastic Margaritas, blow-u-away salsa, homemade chips that you can't stop eating, SOMETHING! I saw nothing. If you have lost all of your taste buds and want run-of-the-mill, bland, no taste Mexican, this is the place for you. Oh, they made a mistake in part of my order but I didn't realize it right away so just ate it, and when I pointed it out the waiter said, "Oh well, same price". Honestly, don't waste your time, there are so many better places to spend your money and get a good meal.

Hard to imagine that there wasn't a single thing you could make a decent comment on. I don't think I've ever been to a place that was that awful.

I love Mexican food....most any Mexican food, but especially Tex-Mex. So far, I have had to go back to home to Texas to get what I really enjoy.

That being said, I have tried Fiesta and it was fine...not home, but fine. Keep in mind that what is bland for you is perhaps too spicy for another; what is dry, just right because it's not floating in sauce; chips not homemade, even better for some because they can't stop eating whatever chips they may be; too much/wrong cheese for one, just right for another; and on and on. Do they advertise that everything is made right there from scratch? If not, then where is the foul? The point is, not everyone enjoys the same thing and that's why there are many choices of restaurants with the same type offerings be it Mexican, Italian, burgers, fish/seafood, or whatever. Special to you may be yuck-o to another.

Your solution is simple...choose another place. I will go back because of my experience with them. If and when they displease me, then perhaps I'll make another choice. From the majority of posts here, I am not alone.

The new Mexican restaurant at Colony plaza is good, but their take-out is a rip-off. If you go in, they have generous portions. But, if you order take out...their portions are only 1/3 to 1/2 of normal. We have tried several times...same thing. For ex. the cheese dip we got was only 1/2 of a cup...

Been there 3 times (0nce on mon. mariachi night) and our group had no complaints and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It's in the "eye of the beholder"..........can't please everyone all the time. I'm sure you will find another place that you will enjoy dining at.:beer3:

I've been there 2x and would say it's good. Now I'm not a Mexican gormet like some here seem to be but the food was good as was the service. They had a host in the evening...not sure about the daytime. Like someone said here...we're retired and all we have is time. We all tend to compare "here" to "there" (home) and as my spouse will say---get over it! We're here now and this is our new normal. I also like Ay Jacinto (or however it's spelled) but Fiesta Grande is closer to where we live and I'll go back I'm sure.

Wow! Fiesta Grande is by far the best in the surrounding area. If you don't like it there you would probably like Taco Bell!
