Hi Everyone,
I tried to search the forums but couldn't come up with any clear threads that discussed the topic. I would like to have a reliable surveillance system installed at our house especially to focus on the perimeter. I would like a front door camera, a lanai camera, a property line camera in our back yard near our landscaping.
Has anyone used blink cameras? I have read these seem to be the best low cost option for wireless, wifi cameras.
We currently have a Ring front door camera, is anyone using their more expanded line of products of additional cameras and monitoring?
Is anyone using traditional companies like an ADT?
Has anyone worked with a more local Villages specific vendor who specializes in home security.
I know our neighborhoods are generally regarded as some of the safest in the country but we are traveling back and forth quite a bit from the NE and we really want that piece of mind especially if one of us is in the home alone.
Thanks in advance for your input.

I had an estimate for a 4 camera system (wired) with a DVR, monitor, etc., NOTE: the house was prewired for security. The estimate came in at $3500, I ran away. Found a system at Sam's Club, exactly what I wanted, wired, 4 cameras, DVR with the capability to connect to the internet, $500. I went with this system. I needed to of the existing cables relocated so I hired an electrician to move these, $200. After 5 years the power supply has failed, replacement $30.
I did not want wireless as I would be changing batteries, and there were big concerns about WiFi security, however, it appears that some of the newer systems seem to have fixed these concerns. A few neighbors have ADT, Xfinity or similar monitored systems, but I was not interested in the $25+ monthly fees.
There are systems that you can hook to your WiFi that will call your phone and possible other numbers if you do not answer that have No monthly cost.
If you go WIRELESS be sure that YOU CHANGE ALL OF THE DEFAULT LOGONS AND PASSWORDS, otherwise you may have others watching you so they know when you are NOT home.

Having been shot at in a foreign country the first time at 16 and the last time at 61 I actually feel a sense of comfort by not locking the doors , I’ve been in an out of the villages for 22 years and never locked a house while I was living in it

I have previously used the Arlo series of cameras with pretty good results but got tired of the subscription costs that kept increasing. I have been using EufyCam 2 wireless cameras for about a year since moving here and have been happy with them. There's no subscription fee required and the battery life is well over 6-six months (they say they can last up to a year) with simple USB recharging when needed. I've liked them well enough that I just bought two more higher resolution EufyCam 2 Pro cameras to add to the system. They also have doorbell cameras and indoor usb powered cameras.

I looked at all the options myself when I moved here and chose Ring. It's about half the cost of Simply Safe after you add all you need to the basic system. The monthly charge is also cheaper.
The keypad was the biggest installation problem. I might have been less happy with the system if I hadn't been able to figure out a way to hide the keypad power cord. I don't know if the other DIY systems like Simply Safe have the same problem.
The keypad has battery backup, but it has a power supply that needs to be plugged in. Fortunately, my Lantana has a short wall between the kitchen and dining room, so I was able to drill a hole through the wall and plug the power supply into a receptacle in the kitchen above the counter top. The wire is mostly hidden behind the upper cabinet and you can't see it at all on the keypad side of the wall.

Sometimes it seems like people bring their paranoia with them where many others don't even bother locking their doors.
Crime here is pretty much non-existent, but I like cameras to see what's going on when I am gone.
So I understand, but don't spend much time prioritizing it..

A monitored security system can help reduce insurance premiums, especially if the home goes unoccupied, and may be required to insure certain valuables.

CCTV. Wired is best option. Much more reliable, and better quality picture.
Ring is a pretty good doorbell/imaging system.

We had cameras for years in Ohio. Typical system with a DVR that allowed internet access.
Bought our house here almost 2 years ago and after researching I decided to go with Ring. I have not been disappointed, cameras with solar panels, security system with monitoring and Wi-Fi deadbolt locks. All installed easily and quickly.

Also have been a RING customer as when we are away weekends ect we can get alert when packages etc are dropped off at front door and then ask neighbor to hold for me.
So far I have 6 cameras as we also have lake house in Leesberg and alerts me on phone if anyone walks around house.
Ring's .... my choice

Just about every one in our village has cameras everywhere.a very social person who goes to many parties . I don’t know anyone who has a security system and many of them a single woman , I’m sure they lock there doors unlike me but that’s the extent of there precautions. Whatever makes you happy or safe I guess , life is full of choices
