We have excess standing water in the dishwasher and after running it through the cycle it remains. Sink and disposal drain fine. My question - should I call GE repair for the dishwasher or a plumber?

If its still under warranty call the warranty department.
Or maybe it may be a problem with the installation of the drain hose. Go here.

Your trap might be partially clogged. Is your disposal running correctly?

Yes disposal is working. Thanks Bogie for the link I'm going to check it out. Does anyone know who to call for GE? dishwasher repair.

If under warranty, GE 800/432-2737. If not under warranty, I recommend Frederick's 750-1782.

If you call the factory authorized GE repair the charge will be around $200.

I'd try a local plumber.

Our dishwasher in TV does the same thing. I have to run the discharge pump manually (keep turning the dial to the location to where it comes on) thru about three cycles to get it to drain completely. I wonder if there is a way to adjust the time the pump stays on or adjust whatever controls turning the pump off (might be a float switch).

Hi Jojo,
Sorry to hear about your dishwasher problem. I second Fredrick's recommendation. Let us know what it turns out to be. I now have same problem with a Maytag in Atl.

I recommend calling a plumber. It could be that the discharge piping was installed incorrectly or debris could be obstructing discharge. I've used Paramount Plumbing and have been very pleased. (352) 330-7233.

Please tell your lovely mother that I will be over to do the dishes as soon as I get back!

Gracie, I will convey that message. She is doing the dishes by herself this week. I have someone coming on Friday to hopefully fix the darn thing.

Jojo, did somebody fix the darn thing? My dishwasher has started making a loud grinding sound, and the dishes aren't coming out very clean. No water sitting in the bottom, and the garbage disposer is working fine. Any ideas?

Uujudy, someone did fix it but it cost me dearly. I decided to go with the conservative approach and call GE. Turns out there was some food clogging the drain line and I should have called a plumber. I consoled myself that this is the only repair I've had with appliances and that paying for a warranty on most of the major appliances would have cost a lot more than this one repair.

Jojo, I read your reply to HoneyBoy, now he's saying that I should just get a new dishwasher if the repair was so costly. I need a dishwasher that has 3 top racks. I don't cook very much, but we sure go through glasses and coffee cups. :loco:

Wine glasses take up so much space!

Yes, indeedy! If I don't get this dishwasher fixed I'll have to start drinking straight from the bottle. :wine: :loco:
