Does anyone KNOW the status of the Rialto theater. It closed prior to the pandemic for a complete overhaul. There was activity for a long time but nothing for weeks. Even the newspaper stopped providing updates.

On this forum there have been EIGHT threads on the Rialto Theater.
I believe it is not a priority, because attending movies has tanked and few have even been made. In the fifteen years I have lived here, I have NEVER attended a movie at ANY of the three theaters we have and had any thing CLOSE to half full attendance.
It may be that the developers are reading that it isn't a good investment. Or MAYBE NOT. No one ever KNOWS what they are thinking, but so far SO GOOD.

They seem to be waiting until the movies are coming back to where they were before the Corona Virus.
This is a very unique area with a huge number of retirees and few theaters in the surrounding vicinity. Last one was this Judy. And I did no even have a place for my umbrella. So, I moved to a seat by a wall so I good lean it against there. Then the theater was completely full.
I have been to many movies at the Rialto with no empty seats available.

Accept change streaming is much more convenient. Another acquisition in the works MGM is being purchased by Amazon adding to Amazon content. Netflix productions along with Hulu, HBO productions are replacing most theatrical productions in movie theaters. Even Comcast owner of NBC has free streaming thru PEACOCK TV.

Welcome to the forum, new person. Have you been here before? before Covid I went to lots of movies at night mostly and quite a few of them were filled and when I go here soon for summer months to Boston I will continue to go if there are movies . I have 65 inch TV others have bigger ones but for me there is no substitute for a big screen movie in a darkened theater . I wouldn’t know how much snacks are i haven’t bought anything hmmm well forever I prefer a snack somewhere after the movie

Not many box office potential smashes opening this Summer.
They seem to start up in November with the new Ghostbuster and 007 movies coming out then and the new Top Gun.

Have you forgotten the building of the eight-screen theater in Brownwood? Or the long lines for tickets to the Star Wars releases? How did you know that attendance was only half full if you’ve never attended a movie in one?

Seriously? The few times we have attended, the theatre was sold out. We don't like having to arrive 30 minutes early to get a decent seat. For that reason, we started driving all the way to SE Leesburg for our movies.

I spoke with the theater at Lake Sumpter the other day. They are going to open back to full operation on Thursdays thru Sundays starting in two weeks. No social distancing - no mask - back to normal. Soon after that, back to their full week schedules.

I have been to many movies at Rialto where there were only a few seats left. It would be a shame if The Family started removing the very things we love which helped us decide to live here. And if they did it because they weren't making enough money off of it ....... DOUBLE SHAME ON THEM. I think the Morse family, and generations of them, have made enough money to last a long time.

This is going to be a big issue. I know the Theaters probably still want people be spaced out maybe wear mask. I’m sure the Theaters can’t tell people what their rules are & then expect them to obey them, so I’m guessing the Theaters don’t want to start another epidemic. They can’t police their Theaters & expect people not starting more problems. This is just my opinion! I’m sure other people have their own opinions.

Maybe they'll think you've seen enough movies in your lifetime. How would that go over, someone you don't even know making decisions about where you can spend your money?

Reading comprehension is a good skill to develop. If you carefully read her post, she is stating that when she has attended a movie in these theaters she has never seen a case when it was very full.

Businesses close when they don't make money. It has always been that way. Not any different in TV. The Morse family is not required to provide us gifts.
And, it is none of our business how much money they have and whether or not they have enough - just like it is no one's business how much money any of us residents have.

Now wait. They are in business to make money...AND with the money, they pay expenses for materials and for labor and for power and for taxes and it people are smart enough they also turn a profit. The profit may be used for anything including reinvesting a lot of it in more land, more materials, more wages etc.
The developers are not your mother and this is not a welfare state. Apparently the idea that movie theaters are on the downslide doesn't interest you, but if I owned one, I would be worried about the future business. The developers do not have to worry, but they can't run things in the red either. Economics 101. Profit is NOT an ugly word, nor is margin, or having investible capital. They, none of the Morse family, would ever have to work again, but apparently this place and all they have accomplished that is not accomplished in regular communities this size means something to them. If I were them I would be so proud.

I don't mind if they leave it closed for now, but I do wish the developer would finish it. I'm tired of the construction barrier and the half painted front.

New Jersey is not the Villages. The developers should be providing entertainment that many Villagers grew up with like movie theaters. On a cost to benefits analysis this is a no brainer.

Last night on network news there was a story that about 80% of theaters will be opening this coming month. As far as blockbuster movies except for James Bond I usually don’t see them right away I like smaller movies and love foreign films ( have to wait till I go home soon to Boston for that) only time foreign film would get to villages is if it’s about God, a dog or some family in there march to redemption and yes I do watch some on TV but it could never be as good as in a theater

To me the issue isn't the availability of the theater, as I gave up on the quality of movies a few years ago. My issue is that the front of that theater looks terrible - in my opinion it's an eyesore. If my house looked that bad for that long, "they" would be threatening lawsuits and fines. The family has every right to their money, but they don't have the right to make my community look shabby. Right now that corner of the square looks shabby. Why can't they finish up the front?

Agreed. It's unattractive and makes that whole corner look like a construction zone (which, apparently, it still is). If they could at least do something with the facade, or heck - even hire some local painters to do some artwork on the walls covering the building, it'd be an improvement over what it is now.

That square is modeled on a fantasy Spanish place. The designers were associated somehow with Disney and created a vintage Spanish Square, even complete with a Church building, which is now The Sharon Theater, but still "looks" the part. I don't think that fantasy Spanish places had "artwork on the walls covering the building".

You are really having a hard time understanding what people are posting today.
We're talking about the current construction barrier walls placed in front of the building, that are ugly, because they're the construction barriers. That's not the facade of the building. I said they should EITHER finish the facade (and then not need those construction barrier walls) OR put some artwork on the construction barrier walls (which would make them less hideous than they are now).

Depends on the movie. They showed film festivals aimed at movie lovers and not with an eye on profit. Blockbuster movies at the Rialto were often filled to capacity. Especially in the late afternoon and evening. Not so much the earliest showings.
And if you market a life style when you try to sell houses which includes three viable movie theaters then there is definitely an ethical component to keeping those three theaters going. There is a duty to homeowners to keep up the standards they expected when they bought the home. This certainly applies to keeping up the golf courses, for instance.
