View Full Version : The biggest house pool in the villages

When I was fixing a bird cage, the screen guy told me the pool underneath is the biggest in the villages. It is 68 ft long lap pool. I am not sure what he said was true. Do you know of any of the house pool that is longer?

Might be the longest pool if it's just a rectangle lap pool but I think other pools that are say, 35x12, would be bigger in terms of volume.
And there's a house in Pine Ridge that has a lazy river.

You can see the pools on Google maps. Look at the houses on Conservation Trail. There are three in a row that look like they have an island in the middle.

If I wanted to swim laps, I’d swim in a recreation center lap pool. I use my pool a lot, but only to sit in the 92° water with friends and enjoy life. If it were 10 feet square, it would still be big enough for my needs. I never swim in it. I also enjoy watching the pool guy clean it while I sit in my air conditioned living room writing checks for its upkeep. It’s a small pool, but all told, it costs me, with occasional repairs, maybe $250 a month. The jealous people making catty comments about a 68 foot pool should consider the cost. Some people have bigger houses or more toys or bigger incomes, and also bigger expenses, but everyone living in The Villages has won the retirement lottery. It’s like going to heaven: maybe all you get is a tiny basement level efficiency apartment with a dumpster view, but you are still in heaven walking on the streets of gold. We are all winners here.

There is a home on Marshview that has a loooooong lap pool running perpendicular to the lay of the home; we were amazed the day we saw it!

This is likely the one in question. It's 75 ft according to the permitted plans and as measured using the tools in google maps.

You are very kind and I agree totally. We did hit the lottery to surround ourselves with with wonderful people in The Villages.

Thanks for the pix...so interesting. We have a 12 x 24 ft pool with sun deck...just perfect for our own water aerobics and lounging on a float. I can do laps at a sports pool if I feel the need.

My google maps for the areas mentioned just show sand with truck-traveled roads. Does anyone know how I can get maps to show more recent satellite views? I am pretty sure I am on the latest Google Maps version.

75 feet, or 25 yards would be a regulation length lap pool just like all the sports pools except for the shorter pool at the Savannah Center. I am way jealous of whoever has that as their personal lap pool. That is on the very top of the list of what I would buy myself if I ever hit the big powerball jackpot.

My neighbor and I went down to the houses on Conservation Trail when they were being built. We sat at one of the bars in the pool and drank a cold Michelob just to see how the rich people live. LOL

With all do respect I have to disagree with you that we are not free, “this is the land of the free and home of the brave”. As we celebrate Memorial Day, we honor all those that who have gone on before us who made it possible for those of us living today to enjoy the freedoms of the greatest country on the planet. Seeing as the pool is undrneath the cage in my Inspector Clouseau voice I'd have asked "Does your bird swim?"

That is wonderful that they can enjoy this pool. I am fairly sure they worked hard for it. I love the fact that many "ordinary" people live here who have been careful with their lives, gave up some things in order to get others, saved their money and worked past closing time.

Can I fly over it, yes, the law in no way prohibits that, and in fact I have flown over this home on at least one occasion.
The questions that must be addressed is "should I" and more importantly "would I" as it concerns what is deemed "surveillance" under FS 934.50 "Searches and seizure using a drone - Freedom from Unwarranted Surveillance Act" and the "intent" of such a flight and image capture as defined under FS 934.50(3)(b). Such a flight would not be allowed under the law. So no, I cannot and will not fly a drone over those pools, not even for "educational reasons".
Google Maps and the Sumter County Property Appraiser's web sites provide publicly available images that do not apparently violate any privacy laws.

I think only REAL justification for a lap pool is if you need to swim everyday.. Some prefer antique cars, some prefer a big house, etc..

Most of the people who live in The Villages are a lot younger than you and did not go through the depression. We do not share your ideas about scrimping and saving and denying ourselves and we got our money from high paying jobs and investments and not from working past closing time. You do not speak for the majority.
Au contraire. Many people who live in TV were small business owners who worked 6 or 7 days a week to support their families AND save for retirement. I doubt that "most" TVers had high paying jobs. Regardless, Gracie never claimed to "speak for the majority" and your comments are uncalled for.

I am 81. I did not live through the depression. I was born past it, with the established carefulness with money from my parents and grandparents. I may not speak for the majority, but believe me, the habits I learned have served me well. I think I speak for the wise; the majority of people I know are careful with their money and some have have a hell of a lot of it. Some not so much. It is not something that EVER is an issue. Most of us would never speak scathingly of being careful with money.

Sign me up for the I need to swim every day club. Hell, if I had a private regulation length lap pool, I would find myself needing to swim multiple times per day : ). Sandwiched between a round of golf of course, Swim on !

I love the lazy river idea! Keep asking for it. I would also love a corkscrew slide. I wonder if that's a possibility either at your own pool or The Villages - probably too much liability insurance with old people falling.
