Based on earlier posts, it is apparently not that of a rare event but it was the first time we encountered it. In Fenny on the way to the Grey and Red Fox golf courses, we came upon a Cadillac coming toward us on the cart path. We blocked the road and the lone female driver, now understanding her error crossed the grass and got back on the road.

Might be your first time, but certainly won't be your last:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Happens more often than you realize. Nearly had a head on collision with a car on a cart path in a curve near Evans Prairie. Instead of cutting across the grass to get on the road, she attempted to make a u turn and go back down the cart path.

I daresay, it happens frequently. It happened to me............once. Near a construction site, I didn't realize I was on a golf cart path till I saw other golf carts. I was able to turn around and get out of there. In a lot of cases, it's easy to make a mistake.

I saw a lady cruising down Morse in a Yamaha golf cart this week. I was worried for her safety.
You gotta be pretty dumb and not be paying attention to drive on a golf cart path!

Well you had a better experience then I had. I encountered a volkswagon on a golf cart path by Lopez. Women driving with a male passenger. When I questioned them the male driver told me to f**k off. lol

Wait till you meet a car head on in a tunnel or going the wrong way in a roundabout.

I've never done it myself, but I have seen a few places where I don't think you'd have to be particularly dumb, or not paying attention, to make such a mistake. I'm talking about cars on cart paths, not going the wrong way on a roundabout. That one mystifies me.
A lot of what we take for granted, now that we've been here for a few years or more, can be a bit confusing for the newcomer/visitor.
We could cut these people a bit more slack than we do.

I don't think that's a fair statement about being dumb. It's quite easy for a new person to miss the 'no carts beyond this point' sign. It happened to my husband and I one night when we first moved here and we are certainly not dumb and we always pay attention. It also happened to friends of ours who were renting a house for a month. They didn't realize their mistake until someone yelled at them.

We moved to TV in March. Was using car (not bicycle) GPS, and it kept insisting that we turn onto a cart path!

Don’t want to sound mean, but it’s time for this person give up driving! About 6 yrs. ago this happened over at the tunnel at Colony Cottage & 2 people were killed.

Did she think the road was a wee bit narrow???

I represent that remark. If you drive your car and cart about equal time, it is easy to . forget what wheel you are behind. As soon as I figured out where I was, I said, "Oh s**t and drove across the grass to the car path.
I have also driven my cart out of a village to Morse. Reached the traffic circle and said, "oh double s**t and got back where I belonged.

Don’t call people names for a mistake. I’m sure no one wants to find themselves on a cart path in a car

Better than finding yourself in a cart on a cart path with a car heading at you

A couple weeks ago, coming from Sarasota Golf, met a car heading to the tunnel near Colony. She stopped when I approached, and realized she shouldn't be there. Wonder if she could have cleared the tunnel. \
The two people killed on the other side was due a medical problem with the car driver. If I recall, he wasn't that old.

The accident you describe was a driver with a medical problem causing his vehicle to leave 466A and hit a golf cart near the tunnel that crosses under 466A. It was a terrible tragedy.

Yea, that’s what I keep thinking but when you’re getting to old to drive nobody knows how they think!

You are correct. It's not about being "dumb". Living in the villages and driving carts or cars, one must remember WHAT they are driving at the time.
