And now for the rest of the story. An exception to the new policy is those boarding a ship to Alaska where the cruise line will still require guests 16 and older to be vaccinated, and 12 and older starting Aug. 1.story
And why is that - because RC is not the decision maker. Just this morning I posted a news item that Canada will require proof of vaccination for entry probably starting June 21st. Most of those cruises to Alaska stop at Vancouver. If you like hitting your head on a brick wall then you should be elated.

RCCL has no Alaska cruises starting from a FL port. These ports are the ones DeSantis has influence over. Not Vancouver, Canada.

And ? Nobody from Florida takes a cruise to Alaska ? Get on a plane - oh wait the vaccination rules have not been ironed out about that also especially international travel (which does include Canada). Looks to me your cruise universe without vaccination will be pretty small - at least to begin with. Cool a couple $ grand to leave a Florida port and stop at Royal Caribbean's make believe island.

The concern is about FL ports of embarkation. You can deflect on other ports which FL gov't. has no jurisdiction over if you feel better. You play games.

I did edit my original post to express my thoughts on why this is a "game" as you stated. It is not under Florida control at all. The ship has to meet the requirements of each country it will port in - including the crew. That will be a small universe to begin with. Now I can understand the reluctance of the younger people to get vaccinated but at our age why would you deny yourself from things on your bucket list ? How long do you have left ? This is going to take a long while to iron itself out rule wise worldwide. The vaccinated will be the preference children.

And I understand. I am not disagreeing with you. Vaccine passports required by our own country is what many are considering against our civil liberties. However that is only good here in our little piece of the planet. Other countries have the right to make their own exit and entrance rules. I happen to have lived and still have a seasonal home on a border town. Most citizens here in the USA think we make the rules. Think again. I've watched people lose their boats for dropping an anchor a few feet over "boarder" while fishing.

You are not fully informed as to what’s going on with cruising to Alaska. The government has granted a temporary exemption to the ship lines till next year so they can bypass a foreign port in order to sail from a US port (Washington) directly to Alaska

NCL is fighting DeSantis in court on this. I have two cruises booked for 2022. Carnival and NCL. I will not be going on Royal Caribbean until they require proof of vaccination of everyone on the ship.
Why would anyone want to get on a ship with people who don’t care about the safety of everyone, just themselves?
I don’t think it will be good for Florida tourism to tell the world we don’t care about anybody but ourselves. The majority of the people have taken the vaccine, wore their masks in respect for others, followed the CCD guidelines, and stayed home for over a year.
It’s our time to enjoy, so maybe it’s time for the majority of us get to enjoy ourselves in a safe environment. Like you said if you don’t want to get on the ship, don’t go.

If vaccinations work and you’re vaccinated why the concern? Also, I don’t know anyone that has stayed home for a year. People that I know here in TV have been out playing golf, and engaging in many other activities over the past year and wore their mask where required. Lastly, the people who haven’t gotten vaccinated have either been told by their doctors not to do that, or they feel it’s not safe since it hasn’t been approved by the FDA and they don’t want to participate in the ongoing clinical study where side effects and vaccine efficiencies are still being studied.

Spoke to celebrity yesterday…they will probably have the same rule. However if someone does end up testing positive then they will be moved to a lower deck cabin and quarantined. If it appears to be spreading then they will cancel the cruise and return to the port…proof this past weekend at the golf tournament that if you test negative one day you can still be positive two days later. Will be so upset if this happens and the cruise industry gets shut down again…can’t understand why a private industry can’t have their own rules…they require a regular passport, won’t let you bring your own alcohol…why not a rule that is for the protection of not only people on the cruise but at the ports it is making stops at…where unvaccinated people can more easily pick up covid. Why do some people have the right to endanger the health of others by insisting to do activities that are deemed by the CDC are not to be safe….the vaccine offers 80% protection but not 100%. Just wondering if you will wear a mask on the ship if you are not vaccinated to protect other non vaccinated people?

That is simply not true. If you are fully vaccinated, the probability of contracting the virus is extremely small. The breakthrough rate for the fully vaccinated was about 0.01% according to the CDC (they are no longer tracking it) and the chances of a breakthrough that causes hospitalization or death (what the CDC is now tracking) is about an order of magnitude lower.

Let’s see, we jam a large number of people, some vaccinated, some not, into a relatively small space for a couple of weeks supervised by organizations with a proven track record of turning a common cold into a health crisis: What could go wrong?

There is a "you can lead a horse to water" aspect of the vaccinations today. They are readily available but there isn't much the governor can do to get people to take them.
However, early on in the vaccination effort Florida did well, at least for people my age. By prioritizing the vaccines by age and pushing the distribution Florida was able to get vaccines to the 55+ group weeks before many other states. I believe we even opened up to 18+ before most states as well.
Getting vaccines into the state, distributing them to vaccination locations, and setting the prioritization worked well here.

That doesn't seem to be the latest news from the CDC. According to the June 7 release about a new study, "Once fully vaccinated, participants’ risk of infection was reduced by 91 percent. After partial vaccination, participants’ risk of infection was reduced by 81 percent. These estimates included symptomatic and asymptomatic infections."

Au contraire, it is everyone's business. Spreading the disease, particularly the variants, is the concern of everyone. Have we forgotten how many times in the past diseases have spread aboard cruise ships, especially this one when it started. Disease is not political, it is just opportunistic and it is criminal for those who allow it to exploit its opportunities.

If you watch this video by Royal Caribbean's CEO Royal Caribbean Group CEO explains thoughts on vaccines for cruise ships this summer - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWOKinc3-L4) it appears RC is being held hostage to Desantis since the overwhelming number of their US ports are in Florida. Your chances of dying are great indeed, since I know of no exceptions.
Your chances of dying of heart failure, cancer etc are much higher than the virus.
You can still catch the virus, even if vaccinated.
They stopped keeping track of vaccinated people who catch the virus because they do not want to know.
This vaccine has not be fully vetted, unlike many other vaccines that are required.
People give up their rights quickly, like a great many people posting here.

Well, looks like I will be canceling my reservations for a Bluegrass Cruise on Royal Caribbean next January. I have until the first of October to do that, so perhaps I will wait to see what happens.
When I was hired as a professor at a state university in Pennsylvania in 1986, faculty were allowed to smoke in their offices and in the classrooms. Students were allowed to smoke in the hallways but not in the classrooms. Many ashtrays were provided. A few years later, students weren’t allowed to smoke in the building at all, but they could smoke in their dorm rooms, and teachers could still smoke in their offices, though no longer in the classroom. Then, around 1990, I think, not even teachers could smoke in their offices. No smoking in the building at all. A “freedom” to exercise a personal health choice was removed. I thought the teachers who smoked would go on strike or something. After all, all of our union leaders smoked. But they didn’t strike. They lived with it. By the time I retired last year, only a few teachers smoked, and they had one little area outside where they could do that. Students couldn’t smoke in their rooms. I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life, but I’m interested in how the “freedom” to smoke came to be considered less important than the “freedom” to not have to breath second hand smoke. How did non-smokers end up having more power so quickly, and without bloodshed? Are “freedoms” rather flexible and slippery?
I moved to Rwanda to work in 1974. To enter (and also to deplane in Nairobi to switch planes), I had to have not only my U.S. Passport but my yellow international Vaccination Passport. When I moved to Beijing to work in 1983, again I was not allowed in without that Vaccination Passport. I always kept it with my U.S. Passport. I still have it, though I haven’t kept it up to date. Anyone who used to work in Africa or Asia in past decades knows what I’m talking about. Needing an international Vaccination Passport for foreign travel is nothing new. Is that more of an abuse of our freedoms than needing a U.S. Passport for foreign travel? Is it more of an abuse of our freedoms than going through a security line at the airport and having our bags x-rayed and perhaps being frisked?

Right. Say you go on a 14 day cruise in the Caribbean from Miami. Two days out, someone comes down with covid. What island will let 1000 people from a pestilence ship come ashore. When you get back to Miami, every unvaccinated person will spend the next 14 days in isolation. I was on board the Westerdam (Holland America) sailing around the Pacific Oceam in February, 2020 where the ship was not allowed to come into any ports even though there were no cases of COVID on the ship. Eventually Cambodia allowed us to come into port. I can only imagine the uproar on a ship that would occur if COVID broke out among the unvaccinated. Ports would probably refuse entry and the ship would have to find someplace to allow passengers to disembark. Given that DiSantis refused entry of a cruise ship last year, would he allow the ship to come back to Florida this time?

Why? Because it violates your rights? Well, then stay home and I can exercise my right to stay healthy. Are children required to have certain vaccinations before they can attend school? YES. So unless you want to watch home videos of cruises instead of going on one just like unvaccinated children have to be home schooled......thats your right.
Yes it does violate my rights. You or I have no right to stay healthy. Staying healthy is a personal responsibility. Your rights, what ever you think they may be, end when they tread on my rights. You have no right to know if I am vaccinated or not. Why would I have to stay home if I choose to cruise RCCL from a FL port? Your anger is ugly. BTW: un-vaccinated children are in classrooms now.

That should not be our only choice. On that basis... Make some cruises with ALL people VACCINATED.. Other Cruises that are vaccine optional. Then those of us who did "the right thing" cared about others, and followed the rules can cruise safely. May mean boarding in another state. You can thank DeathSantis for that.
The rest of you can go have a party and play Russian roulette with yours and the other cruisers health. As long as they fumigate the ship before we get on it GREAT, or keep ships separate. Why should those who follow the rules be penalized.

So it’s the Governor’s fault that some people are choosing not to be vaccinated with it being free and available to everyone?

Upon further investigation it appears this is a Desantis power play. The CEO elaborates on his desire of wanting all passengers vaccinated but is forced to play by "the law of the land" that Desantis just instituted. The CEO also elaborates that there will be special testing for non vaccinated plus additional on board restrictions for the non vaxers yet to be established.

Have you considered that people who have been told by their doctor to not take the vaccine, and/or those who have chosen not to take the vaccine that’s not FDA approved; where 2 vaccines were pulled back for a time to be further studied; where one comes with a warning of blood clots for women under 50; one comes with a warning of some heart issues for younger people; and it’s also now been determined that those who take immune suppressant drugs and have been vaccinated are testing negative for COVID antibodies as if they’ve never been vaccinated. So, maybe what you say is “doing the right thing” is actually not getting vaccinated for some people. Not everyone wants to take part in the ongoing clinical study of the side effects and efficiencies of the vaccines, and I think that’s their right.

I basically stayed home for a year and NOW the unvaccinated people will likely cause MORE Deaths, cases, hospitalizations, and long-haul pain. So, maybe that IS a "CONCERN" that some people are blindly UNAWARE of. Another concern is that the DELTA variant will spread from England to the US. It IS more deadly to younger people than our current variant. So, if TV Landers do NOT love their grandkids, then there is no NEED for concern. Note - that cases and DEATHS from CV have NOT dropped to ZERO - and will NOT because of the unvaccinated!

Or complain when we get to other ports and they can not leave the ship because other countries want to check your vaccine card. Then who will be the first to complain that they can't touch the food, have to sit 6 ft apart, and can not go in the pool. Yes the unvaccinated person who thought they needed to show their liberties by not getting vaccinated and condemning the rest of us! I am so sick of selfish people who think their act of not getting vaccinated will open the world up....no it will only cause us to close down again when the next strain comes through.

I am confused why do you care if those that have chosen not to vaccinate gets Covid, is hospitalized or not, has symptoms, or not, Die or not, according to science can only give Covid to the same unvaccinated.
Why does that bother you, does it directly effect you, does it change your lifestyle, because it shouldn’t. If you are vaccinated, you can Walk on Water, without getting wet:popcorn:
So my confusion is still Why do you care what others are doing?
I am currently in an area that only 26% have been vaccinated. Yet I don’t worry about things I cannot change. I don’t live in fear of what May or may not happen. But that has been my way of life since beginning of 2020. Hugged my grandchildren every week, and still enjoy life the same.

It was your choice to stay home for a year and your choice to get vaccinated. Other people can make the same choices for themselves and who’s to say that a year or a few years down the road as to who may have made the right choice. As I said before some people are told by their doctor not to get vaccinated, and others feel that the vaccines haven’t been adequately tested studied for side effects and efficiencies and thus aren’t safe. That’s their choice to say no to vaccines that aren’t FDA approved, and do what they feel is best for themselves.

What proof? A piece of cardboard with some numbers scribbled on it?
So true as they are very easily copied and manipulated and having a paper card is really not proof of anything. Also, just saw an article where a guy was charged with the theft of 500 CDC cards.

The answer my friend.....is written in my post
the answer is written in my post
Honestly, I have stated my answer to THAT at, least, 20 times on various days in various posts. But, on the off chance that you are somewhat sincere - here goes again.....why I care?.............
..........Over 600,000 US citizens have died of CV. And more WILL die. That weakens America, which IS my country. CV also COST the taxpayer a BIZZILION dollars in hospital expenses, and vaccine costs. Probably caused some hospitals to go out of business. I spent one year of my life staying quarantined because I felt it was the right and patriotic thing to do. NOW, my time and effort is somewhat wasted because others chose a different path. Truthfully, that IS FRUSTRATING! Now I have a near hatred of about 40% of all Americans that went unvaccinated. I have a hatred of the dark- propaganda, and media forces that led to that 40% that were (and remain) UNVACCINATED. I worry that America has split into 2 unstable camps and there is a good chance that it will end up in a DICTATORSHIP.

I actually know someone personally, that got the vaccine, and got Covid. He was miserable. He was out for 2 weeks, if not longer. He's still not himself, and it's been over a month since he's been cleared and has been venturing out.

Australia did it early on with discipline, leadership, no live-free-or-die-idiots like in the US, masking, and distancing. WE should have ONLY about 200,000 deaths today!
It affects ALL our lifestyles because we All wasted the $ for the shots and our time, in that as a total country - we FAILED to drop the CV toward near ZERO. I'm glad that RC is making the vaccinations optional for their passengers. That's the way it should be. Anyone who wants the vaccine has had ample time to get it and it's time for the government to step aside and allow the people to decide for themselves whether to risk getting on a cruise ship or not.
This year we've seen schools in other states remain closed, or only open on a very limited basis for their students, all year long only to have full capacity in person graduations with no masks or social distancing required. How much sense does that even make? The HS seniors missed out on their entire senior year of HS due to "safety" concerns and now that the year is over they are suddenly "safe" to be around each other again along with hundreds, maybe even thousands, of spectators in a full capacity stadium w/no masks required.
I and many others are done with this nonsense and want to enjoy going on a cruise again without all of the Covid-19 "safety measures". It's all a bunch of baloney. Go or don't go. Just keep your nose out of other passengers' health records.

I am in those hospitals everyday, I find no weakness, or the stupid you are referring to. If not for essential workers during 2020, your life would be completely different. Oh and Walmart is not on my list so you are safe.
Of course I took a new assignment that I knew the percentage of vaccinated was extremely low, and it didn’t come with hazardous pay.
They are taking volunteers in hospitals now, maybe you could make a difference instead of just reading or watching TV. The volunteer I had had the pleasure of being with was 87, full of life, great sense of humor, as I left today he said Live Life with no Fear, enjoy the evening. What a smile.

From the glass-half-full side.....
- Requiring a fully vaccinated crew and guests did not prevent Covid
- The article implied that the cruise was not cut short in any way
- The cases were only discovered due to "required end-of-cruise testing"; otherwise the two passengers would be out living their lives today
Perhaps the contact tracing and further testing will reveal a more critical situation. Lacking that, there was no health emergency during the cruise, the cruise was not cut short, the passengers were not all quarantined, the only indications of any Covid issue at all were the test results, and requiring proof of vaccinations did not keep Covid off the ship.

Jan 20 2020 The Diamond Princess departed port with 2,666 passengers and 1,045 crew on board
712 people out of 3,711 became infected (567 out of 2,666 passengers and 145 out of 1,045 crew), and 14 people, all of them passengers, died.
Oh and it started with one passenger. Passengers confined to staterooms. Sewage tanks overflowing. Scraps for food. I doubt if I'll ever get back on a floating petrie dish but if I do it won't be unless 100% vaccinations are required.

EDIT: It looks like the cruise has ended and that's why the passengers are quarantined in St Maarten. They were not removed from the ship or refused reboarding, their cruise had ended.
____
I believe you may be confusing the Caribbean cruise with another in the Mediterranean. I could find no mention of the passengers from the Caribbean cruise being taken off the ship. Further, St Maarten was the starting point for that cruise, not one of the ports of call. All that is mentioned in the articles I could find was that the two passengers have been isolated.
The passengers on the Mediterranean cruise were taken off the ship according to news reports.
But in both cases, the discovery of Covid-positive passengers did not result in a public health emergency, ship-wide quarantines, refusal of docking privileges, or early termination of the cruise.

because as long as there are unvaccinated people, the risk of variants developing is possible. just look at the UK, which was doing well on vaccinations, but are now seeing a surge of disease from the Delta variant. as long as there are unvaccinated hosts, there's a risk for the development of variants which may be resistant to current vaccines.

You do know that mail-in voting is a thing throughout the entire country and has been for decades, right? I mean, this isn't anything new. Both republicans AND democrats have won elections where mail-in voting was available nationwide, and not restricted to military overseas.

All they are good for is ID. I do believe in voter ID though. According to the Constitution, America has been having illegal elections. The Constitution states that ONLY American citizens may vote in our elections. I have yet to see anyone require proof of citizenship in order to vote. And the only absentee voting should be done by the military overseas.
Have you recently checked to note the regulations and requirements to register to vote, which precedes you voting. THAT is where you must identify yourself and offer what is required.
I assume that you believe in cutting off registered voters because.....well because of anything...especially if they like became alone since registering and have no way to the polls, etc., etc.
