Hi all! The threads that came up on my search are all pretty old, so I thought I would ask the question afresh: What are your opinions on window tinting? Should or shouldn’t, type to use, contractor reco, etc.

The windows I am considering tinting are in the front of the house, west-facing. I’m concerned about sun damage on furniture and heat.

TIA!

Tinting might void your window warranty.

There are UV blocking films that will tend to prevent sun damage, some of these can be applied by yourself, however as noted above these can cause damage to windows, I think from excessive heating. Another option maybe a pull down tinted shade, we use blinds and sheer curtains.

We have just applied tinted film from Lowes and it was relatively easy, although you wouldn't mistake it for a professional job!

Went with Solar Guys for our front west facing windows and it really helps cut down the heat. The warranty on the windows is voided, but you can get a warranty from Solar Guys on the windows.
