She swims laps everyday for 2 hours daily to keep her times. She asked me …
WHERE IS A POOL IN The V FOR HER TO USE?
Appreciate any help

The lap swimming pools are for Village residents only.

Somebody asked this question last year as well. Unfortunately, the lap pools are so busy they are reserved for residents only. The adult pools are not supposed to be used to swim laps, and if she is an Olympic swimmer, she would be frustrated by their short length.

There is a guy in the southern portion that has a lap pool. Also, I wonder if anyone has one of those lap pools that provides a current, where you swim in place.
Maybe someone will offer a pool up for her to use. Try posting on Next Door as well.

How old is your grand daughter?

My niece, an elite NCAA swimmer, had success by going in with her grand parents and talking to the folks at the front desk of the rec center to guarantee them she would go at an uncrowded time and be respectful of the other pool users. She was over 18 at the time.

Note, there are not a lot of two hour windows for lap swimming. And as an elite swimmer, she finished up early as there was no way to do real speed work with senior swimmers in the pool. If your grand daughter needs to do full workouts she might look for a public aquatic center, like the national training center in Claremont.

I hope you get a positive answer to this. I had a niece in a similar situation a few years ago, and she could not, under any circumstances, be permitted to use a sports pool (only family pool).

Please come back and let us know how this goes. Or where you find a pool she can use. I have another niece coming up. Thanks.

Find the sports pool near you - like suggested above, and talk to the recreation staff.

I assume your granddaughter is not an actual Olympic swimmer, because July 4th weekend she would not close to her taper and would not be leaving her club team, because the actual olympics are 3 weeks later. And since trials were just last weekend two tapers in a month is a precise science.

The rule for residents at sports pools has two purposes - 1) to limit the number of people in the sports pools and 2) to keep young kids from being in the water

Assuming your granddaughter is around 16 or 18 and a nice club swimmer, she would be welcome. I did the same thing for my mid 20 daughter, who swam at Olympic trials 5 years ago - she just swims for exercise now. They were accommodating - we worked around a time that wasn’t busy.

Crazy walkers at the family pool. You bring your grandchild and they continue to walk back and forth, and yet they have open exercise at the sports pools. A family pool would not work for her.

I had this situation happen to my son. You HAVE to get a form from Recreation Department, wait a week for the bureaucrats to "approve your guest" to use one of the two sports pool where this is allowed. It was quite a power trip for the rec department. We ended up using the Rohan pool. Good luck and stay on top of the application.

Only Village residents can go in sports pool. When my granddaughter, who is a swimmer, was coming I found Leesburg Aquatics. You could check with them.

Glad this worked out for you. If you ended up getting approval, do you think you should complain about the “power trip for the Rec department?” I think you were extremely fortunate that they waived the rules for your son.

I agree. Struck me as rude. Everyone wants to change things to fit "their" situation, yet I'd venture to guess, they don't like the rules changed for others. There are some things in life we have to take responsibility for. If you have a guest you need to nurture in a certain way, that is YOUR responsibility, not every one else's.

Laurel Manor is uncrowded at 6pm and the best pool I’ve been in for exercise. Only 3-4 people there at that time every night. Shhh, don’t tell anyone.

All the regional rec centers have lap pools. Unfortunately they are for the use of Residents Only (not even guests or family permitted). Don’t know of another lap pool

Sports pools are for residents only. There are few lap lanes and anyone swimming for two hours would monopolize access for others.
If she is 30 or over early morning or before dusk is a good time to swim in an "adult" pool. She could try a family pool as well. Two hours is still a chunk of time in any pool.
There are probably hundreds visitors that would like to use the sports pools and other facilities that are designated for residents only. And if your family member can do it, what about mine and everyone else's? You can see what the problem might be. She must have an alternative form of exercise. Pools are not easily available everywhere one travels.

Most of us see that the OP is justifiably proud of this child and we share that
pride, but if everyone looked for a loophole we would not have the lovely way things are done here.

The sport pools are resident only, however if your granddaughter gets a signed letter saying she needs to practice her swimming, the regional rec centers will give her a temporary pass.
I worked at the regional centers for 6 years and the letters were accepted at that time. Check with your regional center for today’s guidelines

My daughter was kicked out of Savannah pool swimming laps. There were two lanes and only one other swimmer. He reported her. She was kicked out by Community Watch. I had a major argument with Rohan about it. We now live in OTOW where she would be welcome to swim laps even in and enclosed pool.

In case you missed it, sport pools are resident only. They are set up for sport functions: volleyball, Aqua aerobics. TEA has many classes there.
Her granddaughter CAN get an accepted pass as long as the rules of doing so are followed!!
She should be asking this question to the regional rec center, not this website!!

Well don't tell anybody but there is an entrance to the sport pool at Rohan off the right side parking lot, you don't have to go through the front door. Make sure she has her guest ID just in case, but probably nobody will check. Check the recreation news and any time it says "combo swim" she would be ok. Part of the pool will be in lanes, and part will be open for walkers. Hope this works. I have gone in the side entrance gate numerous times and never been checked by the staff. I can't think what she could do to look at least 55. Pray a little maybe. Give it a try.

Hendrick22
06-21-2021, 10:12 AM
I hope your not a villager?
Having a guest id won’t help in a sport pool. If she’s checked, a guest Id won’t save her.
Other residents in the pool can call into the center and report her if it looks suspicious.
They will come out and check.
I’ve been the person checking too many times!!
If you want to give advice, give it by following the rules!

Here’s another option. Contact The Village Aquatic Swim Team
https://www.usms.org/clubs/florida-aquatic-combined-team-480/wo-group-folder/the-villages-aquatic-swim-team-1213

They are masters swimmers (55 and up). I guarantee, most of them were high level swimmers when they were teenagers.
Explain the situation, they would probably welcome your granddaughter, train with her and give her feedback.
I know a lot of Master swimmers (not in TV) and all of them would welcome your granddaughter.

We had a similar problem.
Fortunately we have Priority Golf Membership that includes use of Country Club Pools.
You can also just get a Country Club pool membership.
Evans Prarie Country Club Pool would possibly be a good interim substitute pool and when I’ve been there it has not been busy… maybe 4/5 other people.
Hope this helps.

Only in neighborhood family pools. The others, the pools that are at regional rec centers, one must be a villager, not a guest.

Marcy is right... go to rec center, ask for a form, it takes awhile but hopefully will get approved. You may have to go higher up than a rec center manger, but I have seen approvals for situations as this. Rare but not unheard of.

NO. Go through the proper hoops and get special approval. Otherwise, other swimmers will report this as a violation. Which it is. Lap lines are almost at capacity in the early morning.

Why not play be the rules?

Finding an open lane to swim laps in the sports pools can be very difficult at times for amenity fee paying residents, which is why these pools are limited to use by RESIDENTS ONLY. Lap swimming opportunities are generally limited to early mornings and evenings because the pools are monopolized during prime mid day hours by the various group classes and water volleyball. The situation has gotten worse since Covid as it appears many people have taken up lap swimming during the pandemic as a safe outdoor activity. During the busy season sometimes it is next to impossible to get a lane if you are not an early morning person. Not only are there many more people attempting to use an already overcrowded amenity, the evening lap swimming opportunities are quickly cut short by dark once the clocks are turned back an hour. I wish daylight savings time was year round.

TV is not for everyone. Some people get under my skin too, yup ya gotta stay out of the way of the walkers who believe they own the space they take up. This site though and some of the comments remind me of my bar room days the sign read “cows may come and go but the bull in this place goes on forever.”

With as many residents and homes in the Villages, it is understandable why rules have to be in place and it is difficult to get exceptions to the rules, if an exception is granted, great, but if not, I don't think the Villages would be out of line to stick to the rules as written, plus residents are promised certain things for the amenity fees they pay and it is not unreasonable for them to ensure the rules are followed.
IMHO...that being said, there are always options. Another option is to go outside the Villages and get a guest pass at the YMCA sports pool, there is a location in Ocala and it appears they have open lap swimming daily at their facility..."Frank DeLuca YMCA of Central Florida" Frank DeLuca - YMCA of Central Florida (https://ymcacf.org/locations/frankdeluca/)
Additionally, there may be other local gyms with pools or parks with pools and a bit of internet research should bring up a few more options.
