Why is it that as soon as they have one scintilla of fame, these "celebrities" think they have something to contribute that anyone wants to hear. She can kiss my royal ***. If she doesn't like our nation's flag, I'm sure she could find a country whose flag is more suitable to her taste! Thanks for the heads-up. I wouldn't buy one of her albums if my life depended on it! Enough is enough!

I'm not sure why it's so offensive that anyone would be interested in changing the flag of our country. The current flag isn't the original either. It was changed from the one before it. Which was changed from the one before it. In fact, the ONLY one that was the actual "Star Spangled Banner" only had 15 stars on it. The current flag is NOT the Star Spangled Banner. So y'all are putting your hand over your hearts to worship the wrong flag when you sing the song.

The flag changes when new states are added to the country, with new stars to reflect the addition. There were two "first" American Flags: the "Betsy Ross" flag, and then the official 13-star flag. The Star Spangle Banner was a 15-star flag representing the USA from 1795-1818.

If you're not okay with someone even bringing up the notion of changing the flag, then you're not okay with the whole point of the USA - which is to enact change. If you're not okay with change, go live in a country where change isn't allowed. I hear Saudi Arabia is lovely this time of year.

I served in the Army for almost 21 years supporting that flag and what it stands for. Too many good people, friends and fellow veterans, have died for that flag and any mention or act of disrespecting it makes my blood boil. If YOU don't like the way our flag looks take your sorry behind out of this country and find one that doesn't care about it's national flag.

Recently listed as a failed no name performer....that most have never heard of...all of a sudden she gains the spot light because the media knows if it bleeds it leads or even better if it is something stupid but capable of generating controversy then they go to press. Just another confirmation of the shallow, requirements for reporting.

While the flag has changed over time, the meaning of the flag has not. The stars represent the states so it only makes sense that as states are added so are stars to represent those states. The 13 stripes representing the 13 colonies have not changed nor have the red, white, and blue colors. The meaning of the flag has not changed.

Macy Gray needs to study her history a bit more. If she wants more stars on the flag then she should make an argument for at least 56 and rather than 52. Better yet, she should acknowledge the limits of her knowledge and do more research before embarrassing herself.

I'm just not a flag person. Perhaps it's my Jewish upbringing. But we were indoctrinated as children to never worship "things." I don't pay respects to flags, or any other inanimate object. I don't kneel to pray, I didn't kneel when I got married, we don't kneel in synagogue except when we invoke the Lord's name in a very specific invocation. And we don't worship or revere things.

I love my country. The flag, I'm just ambivalent about. Seeing tons of flags flying doesn't stir me to patriotism, and seeing them missing doesn't make me feel any less love for the USA. I don't need a flag of ANY kind to love America.

What she wants might be very silly (and it is, in my opinion). But it's nothing worth getting all hot and bothered over. It's just cloth, and it isn't going to change just because someone thinks a different design would be nicer.

No, I don't. The Star of David is a symbol of Judaism. I don't need the symbol to show people I'm Jewish. I don't need to "show" anyone that I'm Jewish. If it comes up in conversation, I'll mention it. If it doesn't, I have no need to show it off. I pay homage to the country. I don't need a middle-man (or middle-cloth, as the case may be) to honor the country. Living the best that I can, earning my way, obeying the law, giving back when possible, are how I honor my country.

That is exactly my point.

It's like - when we were kids, mom warned us to "pick our battles." It seems as though that lesson completely skipped over certain neighborhoods, and certain generations, and certain "ideologies."

You wanna have a fight over a flag, you do you. I think it's a stupid thing to fight about.

Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raising_the_Flag_on_Iwo_Jima)

One of the images I think about first when someone mentions the US flag.

It should have changes to it but many people should have a voice in that. Maybe if and when DC becomes a State or has that kind of status.

I went to the Smithsonian's various museums in 2015 in the DC area and the US flag appeared in many of the exhibits in one form or another.

Taking pride in it? Most definitely...

Just as I take pride in this flag...

I do not though get upset when I see a beautiful woman wearing shorts that have the US flag on the back of them. Nor if the woman is not beautiful. I Don't Look Good Naked Anymore - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOgd9hitEAE)

It should be taken in context. Hate it when the US flag is used as a prop by some con man to sell shorts though. Even if a beautiful woman is wearing them.

Yup. I see a lot of people make a HUGE to-do about how they're showing their patriotism by displaying their flag.

And they display it wrong. On various holidays (flag day, patriot day, independence day, veteran's day, memorial day) they stick flags into the ground near the edge of their driveway, and stick them so deep that the flags touch the ground.

Or they don't bother changing them and they're torn and faded on their flagpoles for months (pro-tip, snowbirds - take your flag down if you know you won't be there to change it if it gets torn for several months). Or they keep the flag raised 24/7 without illuminating it at night.

The hypocrisy is what makes me cringe. They're the same ones who, if you point it out to them that their flag is torn, will tell you to mind your own business.

So screw'em. Do what you want with the flag. Most people around here don't show it the respect they insist it deserves. They're the ones you should be railing against. Not someone who just wants an upgrade on an old design - or someone like me, who thinks it's silly to respect, revere, or honor an inanimate object.

I think this is one of the most amusing threads I’ve read in quite a while.

First of all, no one should expect entertainers to be any different than the average person, other than they have a pulpit. It’s silly to get upset when they say something that is dumb, insulting, etc. Life’s too short. Just throw away your concert shirt.

Secondly, I don’t have allegiance to a piece of cloth, just like my Jewish friend. I have allegiance to my country. When I was raised Catholic, we were taught that we didn’t pray to icons, we prayed to what they represent. It’s really tragic if someone dyed for a piece of cloth.

Next, it is especially amusing to read comments saying posters who say the flag has changed (other than stars) don’t know their history. At first, a stripe was added with admission of a new state. In 1818, the flag went back to 13 stripes. Who doesn’t know their history?

Here’s my idea: change the stars. We are not an all-white country. If there are 16% brown people in the population, we should have 8 brown stars. Perhaps 2 yellow, at least 1 red, no matter the % indigenous population. If 10% of the population is LGBT, have 5 stars that show a rainbow.

If it weren’t for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who fought and died for our country and that flag you might not be here to express your opinion nor have a synagogue to pray in.

Just think of that when you say it’s an inanimate object because what it represents (FREEDOM) is not inanimate.

Macy Gray is from Canton, Ohio. Home of the Football Hall of Fame. I had the unfortunate experience to see her sing the National Anthem at a HOF game. We were excited that a famous Cantonion was going to sing.

It was a disgrace to our nation and an embarrassment to our town. She was so drunk or stoned. She forgot the words. Slaughtered our National Anthem. Macy Gray is not a patriot. Who does she think she is to even suggest changing the USA flag. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø What has she done for our country

To change the flag to capitulate to the notion that all of us must bow to pressure from the Blm crowd is dangerous. We are all people as one nation. Biden just issued 19th as a holiday. That should be enough

The United States flag does not wave because the wind blew past it. The United States flag flies from the last breath of each American soldier who died protecting it no matter what color or creed.

My father was in combat in both WWII and Korea. He often said that the best sight he ever saw was the American flag flying over base camp. It meant that they returned there safely. Not one to get easily choked up, he often did when recalling the sight.

Dyed? Multi colored stars? Too much red or blue for you as well? Rainbow? Please.

To me the flag is the flag. It represents the United States and all that is good and bad about us. The flag doesn't get changed because we now celebrate a new holiday. It doesn't get changed because we celebrate Pride month or any other group or ideaology. The flag, as it stands, represents us all regardless of color, race, creed, orientation, gender, etc.

I can understand how people may look at the flag and see different things. A Black person may see oppression while a new immigrant may see freedom. It's what makes us our country.

Do things need to change? Yes they do but it doesn't start with the flag. Lets work together to make meaningful change then the flag will become what you want it to be.

"Liberty and justice for all" just shouldn't be a tag line in the pledge it should mean something for everyone who chooses to live here.

Or wear it as clothing. Also against the Flag Code.

The end of slavery is a pretty huge event. Just sayin’.

We have a movement in this country to rewrite history. Juneteeth to me insanity. Imagine a Federal holiday for every historical event for every race creed, religion.
No one would or ever could WORK. We would need to add extra days to the 365 day year to avoid running out of holidays. It not only seems insane, it is insane.

Changing the flag will NOT stop the fact that the US has the greatest WEALTH DISPARITIES in the 1st world. It will NOT get the 40% unvaccinated to change their pea brains. It will NOT restore a true middle class to the US. It will not help the US to get serious about Global Warming. It will NOT get a needed voting rights bill passed. Nice to hear from you, Mr. Goofey Eagles. I am also a fan of capitalism. But, the US has changed gradually and then MORE quickly from about 1975 until today. We had less population, crime, immigration, and we had a VERY STABLE middle class. We were in the top 10 of countries for upward mobility and quality of life. people were living longer each generation (not today). Average wages were staying ahead of inflation. From 1975 until just this year average wages with respect to inflation or buying power DECREASED. The middle class was screwed - so much so that today we have VIRTUALLY NO middle class. Just the uber-rich and the uber-poor. And I mentioned the WEALTH DISPARITY. Now a rich person MIGHT (?) NOT MIND being at the top of the totem pole. But, social instability could hurt them also. One can imagine the social instability in France just before the French Revolution and the guillotine! People in 1975 IMAGINED that each next generation would be better off than the current. That IS NOT the case today! We are now around 30th in qualities like upward mobility worldwide and general quality of life. Even the UK is around 11th in upward mobility. The US cannot continue much longer with a society consisting of Uber-rich and uber-poor only. We no longer have real active capitalism - now we have Corporate and elitist Socialism. Well, the truth is that we DO have a thriving middle class. It may have shrunk a bit, but this is nothing at all like the dichotomy that preceded the French and Russian revolutions. Not even close. Heck, our welfare recipients have a higher standard of living than most countries. If you think there is no middle class, just look at 130,000 of your neighbors here in TV. Do you classify them all as either "uber-rich" or "uber-poor".
The only reason life expectancy is shorter (by a month or two) is the higher rate of infant mortality, which has to do with how we count infant deaths as opposed to the rest of the world. And infant mortality is higher due to increased drugs and drinking by pregnant women.

You obviously don't comprehend what you read, I stated very clearly in Post #7 of this thread that I served almost 21 years in the Army. It is the flag of my country and that most definitely allows me to comment on what is done to it. If I can't have an opinion on the flag neither can you. No, I did not go back and reread your original post...so I guessed well about you being in the army.
No one said you could not have an opinion, as well as myself on the flag....the problem here is your nastiness toward a black woman and her opinion of the flag.
That's all.

Added:...no, never went into the service.
Do I have something against veterans? Not really...are they owed something, dam right they are and unfortunately our country isn't providing enough for our vets, such as benefits, housing etc. But the fact that they served the country doesn't make them the end all, be all to decisions of this country. And they tend to get very nasty if things don't go their way. That being said, someone that went to war and returns to no job, no home, no support would make one nasty.

And it is firmly etched into law!!!!!!!!!

You keep making these baseless claims...

Sorry poster, I read just fine...you started out basically screaming she was a dumb Bimbo...and I believe you were thinking she wasn't nice.. therefore I stated you felt mistreated (obvious assumption)
I also assume you might be a vet, or in the services previously....but that does not make it your flag to say to someone, who has an opinion on it, is a dumb Bimbo. Who the heck knows, maybe colorful stars might be nice...show diversity. Just a thought.

I didn't see the word "dumb" anywhere in his post...

1. I have seen them in two places. As part of a golf cart parade in the last weeks. And, at a drinking place in Brownwood.

2. Not offensive, but have you read, of course you have, so do you recall the various attacks on uses of the flag. I recall them, to which I responded about some uses by the tea party and being critiqued for that. I find all of it a misuse of the flag, and disrespectful.

Point I am making is the hypocrisy.....HIS followers are quick to critique, but find HIS image on the flag on the back of a golf cart just fine.

Actual specifics and proof (not just what you say you remember seeing) would help...

It finally came out, the RACE CARD. If you are white and criticize a minority you are a racist.:ohdear: I'm all for equal opportunity, I will criticize any race, creed, color or religion when it comes to idiots that spew groundless hatred and malice towards our country. You do have animosity towards veterans and anyone else that rebukes your ideology. As far as veterans getting nasty when things don't go their way, how many vets have you see burning cities down, rioting and looting? There other groups that have a lock on those activities.

Funny stuff. Each golf cart parade of a political nature had more than one flag adorning a golf cart. There is a golf cart I have seen at various watering holes, proclaiming a false election and a flag with the image of the losing candidate.

Only reason I post about this is because, I personally was "jumped on" during at least one thread because a few posters felt the flag was disrespected by folks but were specific, when pointed out to them, that using this persons likeness as was done any number of times, at rallies, etc. was fine. Those posters made sure they came "at me".

So, I openly admit it is personal, because it is a hypocritical position.

I might add that seeing you ask for proof of anything is quite humorous.

You CAN’T be serious! How about concentrating on something with real substance like the insane level of black on black gun violence that’s occurring in certain cities because the urban black culture rebels against practical law enforcement & the liberal leaders pander to those who would sacrifice all law and order to maintain votes & their de facto power of governance ( or lack therof) over the urban people who can’t or won’t recognize that they are being enslaved by the constant Liberal reinforcement that they are victims of the so called systemic racist bogeyman!

It’s time to focus on the things that will improve our country and create a more perfect union, not division. Those that propagate this oppressive notion that our nation is systematically racist need to be purged or ignored as it is a fact that the USA is the most desirable nation to live in. There is obvious & decisive levidence for those with a true sense of logic & common sense to declare we are NOT a racist nation! Quite the contrary. We are the defender of equality & freedom is this misguided world we live in. Why would countless immigrants want to come here if we’re so racist??
The whole point of America is NOT to enact change! It is to protect FREEDOM plain & simple

Change our flag?? WHY? It IS the symbol of freedom. It STANDS for freedom! It has been defended with the lives of countless brave souls that would DEFEND that freedom at all cost!

To suggest otherwise is an insult to those who have given their lives for over 250 years in America. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

PS: Thanks again for the personal insult, I really appreciate it
Yes, Mr. Wonderful........TV Land has a different demography than the US as a whole. TV Land DOES have a middle class because of the economics from when they had maximum earning capacity - primarily the fact that UNIONS still existed then. People self-selecting to locate here are more likely to be more active and adventurous - qualities that would likely lead to higher wages and salary when they WERE working. Many of them have PENSIONS, which barely exist now. So yes, TV Land has a middle class. But, today America is a land of haves and have NOTS! Very little in between. And I explained WHY in my previous post.

The law means something to me. And the flag doesn't mean anything to me, it's just cloth. HOWEVER I recognize that it does mean something to a lot of other people, and I respect their right to feel loyalty to the flag even though I feel no such thing toward what I perceive as a piece of cloth.

As such, I also recognize that IF you are going to proclaim yourself a patriot and raise the flag of the United States, you should do it correctly. Or, don't do it at all.

Have a little respect for what you CLAIM to love. Or admit you don't really give a damn about the flag, you just want to pretend to conform to some kind of social nicety that you think might buy your ticket to patriot heaven or something.

Your choice however, a poor choice of words given what the flag.... not the piece of cloth....THE FLAG...... means to most people.

I don't need a flag to respect what it stands for. Just like I don't need a church to pray to god. I just pray, directly. God doesn't need me to be in a particular setting, or talk through a priest on my behalf.

The USA doesn't need people to fly flags in its honor. It will stand, or it will fall, with or without a flag. Not because of a flag.

If you want to fly a flag, then fly one. If it means something to you to do that, then you should absolutely do it. But do it correctly. Otherwise, YOU are the one being disrespectful.

It’s always funny when others instruct us on exactly why we feel the way we do, whys it’s incorrect but do it if we must.

The American flag represents so much more than you are capable of comprehending when we gaze upon it. It is the symbol of freedom, lives lost through wars, the tenacity of this Republic to get it right even though at times we struggle. God bless America!

Well…. Darn it. I was always told that I can wear white after Memorial Day up until Labor Day. Now, if I only wear white because it’s summer I guess I’m not woke enough. I wear white because it looks nice with my summer tops. So, I guess now I have to wear a certain percentage of brown… some yellow ( even though I look terrible in yellow) and every other week red.
I sure don’t want to be cancelled. So I better do this.
