Need help fabricating mechanical apparatus

Hello all,
I'm trying to make a pan and tilt apparatus that can swivel and tilt a 50 pound object. I could just buy one but that wouldn't be any fun. I have made a proto-type but it does not have the performance I'm looking for. So if you have some metal working tools like a lathe or mill and you have some time to help me out please let me know.
