Hello, does anyone know of a fairly “bike friendly” route to Orlando from the Villages? This winter I’m planning on taking my bike on the Amtrak in DC to the Tampa station and ride to Wesley Chapel to visit friends. Then take 54 to Odessa and take the Suncoast trail to Brookeville and hopefully get on the Withlacoochee State trail to Inverness and then 44 to the Villages to visit relatives there. And now I’m trying to map out as close to a “bike friendly” route as I can from the Villages to Orlando where i will get back on the Amtrak, but so far its looking a bit ify, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Might try RidewithGPS or contacting the Sumter Landing Bike Club on their website. Otherwise this is the route I would start with for planning. Depending on extra time I would follow the West Orange Bike Trail up the south-east to east side of Lake Apopka, but that will add distance and time. The route I have incorporates some of the club ride routes in the Yalaha and Howie in the Hills areas. This link will take you to my map. (https://goo.gl/maps/cn8pjHFrgFbAyAdaA)

Thanks very much for the information! looks interesting and no problem on the extra time or distance as the more scenic the better and will check out that bike club, have a great summer!
