View Full Version : The Flying Biscuit has crashed!

I went with 2 friends for breakfast at The Flying Biscuit in Sumpter Landing on Monday June 21st. Here is the list of problems we encountered:
The Bacon was burnt and greasy worst I ever tasted could not eat it.
The over easy eggs were broken and overcooked.
One pancake was not brought out with the order and only came after the person was done eating.
After I asked for a well toasted English muffin it came barely toasted at all. Then when I showed it to the waitress and she agreed and I asked for another one well toasted after about 10 minutes she brought back another one that again was barely toasted and she said "they said this is the best they can do" This was the worst part and it was not the waitresses fault but the cooks need to go! SAVE YOUR MONEY! The Flying Biscuit has crashed landed!

I find in most restaurants you think you have control over the cooking, but you get what they bring out. I NEVER ask for it to be taken Back and done over. Remember the song, “ no one knows what goes on behind closed doors” and if you did you wouldn’t be back.

If you sit outside at breakfast you'll think you're in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds.
There are a bunch of birds that sit on the umbrellas and roof, waiting for people to leave. When you do they all descend on the table and pick it clean.
I felt like Tippi Hedren.

Just curious if you asked to speak to a manager about the poor food quality, and let the manager know. The server I am sure was aware of what was being sent out of the kitchen. Give the”Biscuit” another try could be just a bad day the cook didn’t show up.

Do not send it back ask to speak to management. They will either remove cost from bill or redo meal. If they are redoing leave original meal on table and remove when they return with new meal. Even if they spit in the new meal you know it is only once not twice. Let's face it new hire does not want to work to earn money. Or probably owner does not want to pay and role model for good service. Sad world.

One of our favorites and have never had bad food. Maybe slow lately because of staffing, but meal has always been good. I wouldn’t go on a forum & bash it. I would have asked to talk to the manager. Sorry your expert was bad as well, but I’d give them another chance.

We went with anticipations high from reading some reviews, unfortunately we mush have visited on a bad cook day. Sausage was terrible, biscuits not fully cooked and the grits (what I was looking forward to) NOT, better at waffle house. The wife won't give them a second chance.

I went there about 6 weeks ago and one of the waitress was clearing the table while pushing the cups and dishes into a large container and smashing them as a result. Then moments later started breaking dishes. No worker or manager said a word. Patrons just shook their heads in disbelief. As for the food, I won’t be going back.

Yes we know the reason, the people who work in service are finding better jobs, with better hours and pay and until those things are addressed, nothing happens. If you have lived in TV for years you would know that there are always staffing issues because we have overbuilt and the number of servers and cooks do not meet the demand. No new news here.

I taught small children for decades. I know an "interesting pretend story" when I hear one.

People will not work when they are paid better not to.

People's jobs and success at them are based on many things.

We are all born valuable but we are not all born equal in abilities and skills.

Raising minimum wage raises prices for the entire economy. There are some things that cannot be fixed with National legislation or anything for that matter.

Is the OP a disgruntled worker? Is the OP the one who broke the dishes on purpose that I just read on this thread?

Can we ever really trust any anonymous post?

While traveling from state to state, the restaurant business has issues everywhere. Many who were in low paying jobs, had 1.5 years to go online, either finish a degree, or get a new one.
Because some have not adapted to working from home, they might have retired early, opening up better paying jobs for those restaurant, and retail workers.
Our group of 8 has a Cracker Barrel down the street, from our facility. We either get takeout on long shifts, or stop in after work. The manager had only one cook yesterday, 2 wait staff, and 2 register staff. Wait time was 45 minutes to get a table, food from order to table close to an hour. All staff were newer to positions, manager had his work cut out for him.

It’s not just TV it’s every, town, city, in every state. So far from our travels, TV grocery, restaurants, and retail seem to be fairing much better than the other cities we have traveled to in the past year.

Please be patient with restaurants. They are having a particularly hard time getting workers. I went to Bob Evans recently and one of the servers was cooking. Another time the manager was cooking. Went to one of the smaller restaurants and his mother was washing dishes. Things are bad. Maybe after the federal money is gone it will be better. In the meantime, let’s be patient.

There are hundreds of thousands of Villagers - to make a blanket statement that all 100,000 are bad tippers is ignorant.
There are probably great tippers, typical tippers and terrible tippers.

We owned a restaurant and no one should settle for food not cooked the way you ordered it. Send it back and if it still comes back unacceptable you have 3 choices. 1) ask to talk to the manager, then 2) accept the meal as it is, or 3) say this is totally unacceptable and leave. you are not responsible for paying for something that is not cooked correctly

My husband and I ate twice last month at The Flying Biscuit, and we found their menu to be rather unique for breakfast foods. We had no problems with our orders, and the food was great. Yes, the bird outside were annoying, but that is simply because they are so understaffed because no one wants to work anymore when they can sit home and collect unemployment. I think once people get back to work, and they pick up some employees, they will be able to stay on top of those tables outside. But birds will be birds.

Did you tell them too remake your bacon & egg order?

It's not just there it's in a lot of stores, Last night I wanted a burgher , went to square one , I ordered with no tomatoes, it came with a tomatoe, I told them to make new order, they didn't they removed the tomatoe I refused it and left , went to Bob Evans ordered the same it took about 20 minutes to make and the burgher was so well done it tasted horrible.

It's all over

I was really interested in going to the Flying Biscuit one day but then I saw the prices. $10 for bacon, eggs, toast, grits. They might have the best grits in the country and it wouldn't matter because I wouldn't ever eat them anyway. And then I'd still have to tip them on top of that? Fuggedaboutit.

I tried pricing out their a la carte options and it would've ended up costing me more without the grits.

So I went to Darrell's. For $7.50 I got bacon, eggs, toast, homestyle potatoes, and orange juice. $10 covered more food and included the tip and tax.

Last time I was there there was a long line and a forty-five minute wait to be seated. And the restaurant was only half full. Someone told me there was a staffing shortage. That no doubt affects the cooks too. Same problem everywhere. Needless to say, I left without breakfast.

Not a fan of chicken sausage anything, but their bacon is excellent. Four of us go to breakfast, order one breakfast tacos, one peaches and waffles, and 2 sides of bacon. Eat family style, and still have leftovers. If you grew up on grits, theirs are excellent, not my granny’s, but very good

IMHO - I found Victor at Darryl's Diner in Southern Trace makes great blueberry pancakes! He also makes a very good omelette.

I go to Billy's for omelettes. It's so hugh, I can only eat half and bring home the other half to be reheated for another meal.

Been to Flying Biscuit several times. Breakfast is not to my liking and somewhat expensive. I'm not a grits kind of guy.

My son loves "First Watch". Everybody's entitled to their opinion.
